      You should watch Keller they arguably had a harder book. But it just wasn’t composed as well and they were still super dirty at the end. They easily had the hardest drill you should watch some of the head cams it’s crazy. Hebron deserves everything Though they are absolutely insane. @@TheDesignGuru87 Carmel is a fine high school marching band to be sure but I respectfully disagree. “400 piece”symphony is a stretch since the music book is so remedial compared to the other elites. Carmels Nats performances were mired by lower brass and mid voice tuning and intonation issues- Mostly Brass
      Ironically, BOA has historically rewarded these overly design relying Midwestern High School bands (insert anything ISSMA). Carmel just happens to be the largest and the luckiest considering they have Gaines for design!
      Think about concert season. The easier the music book the cleaner the sound overall

    The level of musicianship at Hebron is unrivaled. Most top bands in Texas will send 5 or 6 students to All-State at the TMEA convention in February. Hebron had TWENTY FOUR go last year. And that's including kids in their own area from Markus and FloMo who are elite programs themselves. I'd reckon there'd be probably a few more that didn't quite make the cut at area due FloMo and Marcus students advancing.

    Hebron is only allowed by the district to go to Grand Nats every 4 years for budgetary reasons. The school district has 4 insanely competitive schools, but overall, Hebron is the most competitive. It's to give other potential bands within the district the opportunity to go as well. • @TeatimeEdits
      @TeatimeEdits Год назад +3

      @@Mat.Anthony ok, then by that logic Hebron didn't win prelim's because it was also a numerical tie. the UIL scoring system holds each aspect of the performance accountable (7 judges each judging one caption), while BOA focuses heavily on show design (General Effect is basically the show design caption). Looking at the Finals results from BOA San Antonio the Music and Visual Captions more or less align with what the UIL judges said. While Hebron was amazing this year, there was a lot of visual dirt for an end of year product.

    • @johnnychikko3800
      @johnnychikko3800 Год назад +3

      @@TeatimeEdits 💯 I totally agree with your perspective. UIL State adjudicates much better presently and arguably better than BOA only at the state Area and FINAL levels since the recent sub-caption adoptions
      BOA adjudicates and rewards overly heavy design metrics which dictates adults predominantly capturing “credits” versus student individual talents (visual and MUSIC execution)
      We all love Cartwright and Gaines but should their wisdom dictate scoring and metric perimeter for the most recognized national high school marching band circuit?
      I think “NO” because it doesn’t recognize programs outside of the Indianapolis geo. Many other States and programs equally push the visual envelope plus add music innovation difficulty yet it seems they always seemingly fall flat at LOS.
      Thought occasions of GN gold have happened to rotation visitors like BA, Tarpon and Texas. This is the exception and not the rule. Even fans from Indiana present at these events have wondered how Avon and Carmel place so high at GN’s compared to their rotating competitors
      This was a concern even in the early (BOA) 2000’s yet it has become more evident in the 2010’s and present!

      As far as my enjoyment of both, I could have either one, got to see both of these shows live several times, Penstriped I’d say would take the cake for me as well, but in terms of the demand put on every performer in the music they played, this show was able to top even Penstriped for sure. Although for me, I absolutely enjoyed how explosive, deep and powerful their low brass was in Penstriped, just absolutely on a whole other level, tier than anyone else, it’s easy to be off balance with how loud Hebron can be and how loud they were in their very opening hit that year, but when you hear the low brass all on their own, you know why they’re able to push their sound as much as they did that year👀

      One thing that puts PENstriped ahead of OFM is the how the students rose to the challenge of the arrangement. Most great bands uses technique (double/triple tonguing) at the front end of the first tune and the rest is a solid show. PENstriped has the hard technique throughout the entire show, including the end when most chops would be warn out. And do it for Prelims and finals. It’s the most well rounded show I’ve ever seen. They deserved their first place finishes at State both years.
