They have had a couple of bleaching events over the last decade or so, but just going on the number of fish you can see the reefs are still providing a good place for breeding and growing, which is great news. Did you dive with Walindi or another outfit? I have contact with West New Britain and keep in the loop about the state of the seas there etc. So far fish are still plentiful, despite the warming waters.
I don't really agree with your optimism about the future of the reefs. But it remains a very fishy area. We had a 4-day stay at Loloata resort, then a 12-day stay aboard the Fébrina which is based at Walindi resort. www.loloataislandresort.com/ www.mvfebrina.com/
A great dive opportunity for sure. You are correct that long-term the reefs will suffer, I was just surprised at the resilience of those in the Bismarck Sea so far.
Amazing footage, thanks for sharing. I appreciate your work
It’s a pleasure to share images of a diving trip to Papua.
