When I was a kid, I had a fondness for adventure found in books. But, with very few exceptions, the only women I saw on television were white housewives. And then came Star Trek. And there was Nichelle Nichols on the bridge of the Enterprise. Ms. Nichols took her role from Star Trek and headlined a minority recruitment drive for NASA. I don’t know if young women understand that when Star Trek came out, we could not even open our own bank accounts or get a credit card. In many places husbands had final decision on medical procedures. Seeing Nichelle Nichols, on the bridge of that ship, gave so many little girls like myself hope that there was something beyond, the constraints placed upon us and that a life of adventure was for us too.❤️

There seemed to be a lot of notable, high-profile absences too. I'd be interested to know why. Perhaps it's just that I want to see more people celebrated, though. It'd be impossible to cover them all, but still...

I think the editor didn’t realize that clip of Torres was from her self-destructive streak on the holodeck, when she was self-harming and at her absolute worst. They should have instead used the clip from the end of that same episode when she is in the shuttle pod and seals a breach before it happens, which is when she’s at her best, using her ingenuity and tenacity to save the lives of her crewmembers.

I want to see a video about all the men in Star Trek that have been my role models. You do know that us men need support too, right? We have troubles, social pressures, mental health challenges, addiction problems, workplace challenges, relationship conflicts, racism and discrimination, and housing and financial insecurity-just to name a few. So let's not be sexist Star Trek. Give me a video too that can inspire me.

So many cringe moments. Women deserved better than what series like Discovery gave them.
Kira and Jadzia were both bad ass women who embraced their feminity without compromise. Their characters weren't just giving fluff piece speeches every episode.
