  • I explain that I'm hopelessly smitten by mechanical divers so that it is nearly impossible to bond with a quartz watch such as the Citizen GPS Satellite Diver, which I have up for sale on eBay:

My favorite watch now (to the detriment of all my other Watches) is my Seiko King Turtle with the green “grenade dial”…I love this watch! It checks all the boxes…automatic movement, Sapphire, ceramic bezel, cushion case, unreal lume, +5 seconds/day. All for $400 new! Who woulda thought?

Great watch. Strap sucks. I always change out the Seiko silicone bands. I do love my citizen divers. Yeah you either like it or you don't. I sell them the minute I'm wearing a watch out of guilt for not wearing it.

It's probably because it's green. If you're the type that likes certain dial colors like black or blue, the green is one that sticks out, and it'll grow to bother you eventually.

Oh yeah I’ve had watches I just tried to connect with but couldn’t. Just wasn’t happening and had to move on. 😮 That SPB143 is really cool. If I didn’t have so many watches and had such bad experiences with 6R movements, I might have to try out the 143…

I think you are a Seiko man through and through Mr. McMahon. No other brand is allowed into your very homogeneous watch rotation. Is basically same brand and almost same watch with small variations and I have to agree with the purity of it. Keep the content coming please. Thanks for your insights into watch collecting and life in general. Warm regards from Spain

That Tuna is an absolute beauty. Not sure if you have had one, but a vintage 7548-7000 or similar variant is ironically an upgrade from the later SKX007 that came from it. Get one of those babies on an Uncle Seiko Z199 bracelet or GL rubber strap. Vintage is the way.

You should take a look at the Bulova 96B432 Marine Star it's a quartz watch but with 16 beats per second and an even smoother second hand sweep than a Grand Seiko.

So I can't say with certainty that you and I share this same train of thought, but I have a sneaking suspicion that we both share RIDS: Redundant Item Distress Syndrome. Basically, certain items have certain roles to fill, but if you have more than one item trying to fill the same spot, they end up competing with one another, and the disharmony affects the owner of them items. You didn't keep the Citizen because it was trying to muscle in on a position already filled by another watch: the Tuna. You wanted ONE higher accuracy rugged quartz diver, and you already have one. You have collection harmony, and the Citizen was disrupting that. The SPB143 is your mid sized "palate cleanser" watch, essentially the picked ginger of your watch sashimi plate. This is why I don't call myself a "collector". I don't like owning redundant versions of the same-purpose item, because owning multiple versions of same thing feels wasteful and unnecessary to me.

I think this is a problem when you getting another watch that you haven't seen or tried on in the store.
You are simply disappointed but still trying to (connect) with it but ending up liking other watches better simply because are way better.
I like green dials but this watch being quartz by having such a cool pieces like this 62mas and quartz but still a tuna makes it hard and 47mm isn't helping ether.
I made many mistakes like this and sometimes it will grow on you and you'll like it but most of the time it will end up taking a spot of the watch you won't get because of this one.
Sell it, try not to take too much hit on it, forget it and start fresh.

I think green is terrible for any watch. It's hard to match with your daily wear and it just looks out of place.
Put everything away and just wear one watch for 6 months.
