Thanks for transcribing this, can't wait to give it a try! Romeo is a great dude. I went to his place with a mutual friend once. He was cleaning his pool, so we hung outside for a bit and talked. He told me about the time he met Yngwie and a bit about touring with Dream Theater. He took us into his studio where he had 4 cabs set up. One, maybe two were Engls but I can't recall the others. After casually playing something sick, he let us play one of his Caparisons! He was graciously tolerant of my playing, and mercifully gave me a chops compliment. I'm glad to see him tearing it up!

@@LeviClay to be fair Romeo doesn’t do social media at all. I doubt he’s watched many videos people have made about him. +1 comment on the Sy X lads being super cool and approachable. My band and I made the trek to Sydney Australia to see them on the Underworld tour. Amazing show. After the show we were heading back to our hotel and saw a few of them out the back. We politely asked if they minded if we came up to say hi, and Russel Allen came and gave us all a (big sweaty) hug, and the rest of the lads hung out for a bit and shook our hands and did photos and just chatted for a while. He's fucking great and criminally underrated. You almost never hear his name brought up when people are talking about guitar greats unless a rogue Symphony X fan enters the chat, even though he definitely deserves to be included in those discussions.
To be honest, Symphony X is a very underrated band in my opinion. I'm a Dream Theater fan since their early days but i always listened to Symphony X as well. They deserve more credit...

You're right about Becker's sweep patterns. However, on the low strings he would do a triad hammer and pull-off thing, which to my ears sounds like a nicer way to get some mileage out of the low register.
I absolutely love uncle MJR's work... he is just such a stellar musician (let alone devastating technician). Thanks for transcribing this solo. I had the arpeggios pinned down (on paper - wayyy too far from getting the final arpeggios up to speed. I cannot crack the movement yet), but the beginning of the solo was throwing me off. I had the quintuplets figured out, but couldn't make sense of the 11:8 and the 7s later on. I have a sneaky suspicion MJR picks EVERY damn note at that last arpeggio passage, without any Hammer-ons/Pull-offs. I guess I will have to use H/P's, my wrist just does not to want to change direction that fast.
One of these days I'm going to try to learn how to play one of these transcribed solos, one day, ADHD be damned.... Until then, please, PLEASE consider doing "Bruce's Solo" from Racer X some day in the future, when you have time. I can't find some of those tab books at sh*thappens... are they official? Can they be bought somewhere? How good are they? Anything you transcribe from Romeo is extremely well accepted!
Around 3:02 when he begins to half-sweep the arpeggios, this is how I first started to learn sweeping by isolating just 3 notes at a time (ended up being like an Fsharp minor for example, but mostly minor to begin). For a while that's all I could do, but then I added the next notes up and down and when played quickly adds a very rolling triplet-thickness to the arpeggio and the buildup is longer. I want to learn the ones he is doing here, as I feel like the way I am used to playing arpeggios I could incorporate his into some cool jam. I've recently been able to transition between minor and major forms with that extra tapped note too. FYI I've been playing for 20 years.
I'd love to learn how to play this solo...I am just not sure if I have enough lifetime to make it to the end. Bloody hell he is just on another level of omnipotence😳.
