I married a Brit and became a UK citizen and am still one now. Lived there for 8 years and miss it like crazy! We visit for 1 month out of the year every year and I totally agree with you on many points about the UK. I hope you are doing ok through this terrible storm heading through the UK currently. I am sorry you have gone through a bit of depression, but just be grateful (which I am sure you are) to be there and doing what you are doing and seeing. Great videos. My 23 year old daughter in UK on Youth visa from tomorrow. We have been living in Vancouver for the past 15 years, previously in South Africa. We have enjoyed your journey. Given us/me some insight into UK life. We enjoy uour perspective and reality
Just a thought about getting around in London. The Tube is fantastic for travelling longer distances but, for shorter journeys, I much prefer taking the bus, as you did in this video. It gives a much better idea of where you are and what's around you and often it doesn't really take much longer than the Tube. So many tourists use the Tube for very short trips and, by the time they get down to the platform, wait for their train and get out of the station at the end of the journey, a bus ride could easily have got there in the same time - sometimes less. Anyway - always lovely to catch up with your adventure and good to know that your eye surgery has been a success.
I think the reason most visitors use the Tube is that it's just so much easier to navigate. Walk into any station and there's a map of the entire system. If you know the nearest station to your destination it's easy to work out which line you need and where to change trains. Unfortunately, it isn't so easy to find your way about the bus network without doing some homework in advance.
I go to London from Wakefield and it can be between £14 and £28 - 200 miles - and takes two hours. Although, it’s a forty minute drive from Holmfirth to Wakefield.
Hi Alanna, I have only recently found your channel so I am busily playing catch up. I don't think I'm alone in feeling a little down about life in England and your videos have made me realise that we still have much to be proud of. I used to live in Kent, near Sandwich, and my family comes from Faversham so you make me feel quite nostalgic about that beautiful county. I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos and I will continue my catch up on your experiences as time permits.

Sometimes I think we have to give ourselves permission to feel sad or low. Always enjoy your day trips and London looked cool - I haven't been for the longest of times. I kinda wish I could learn another language, so I did take a look at the deal you have gotten with Babbel. Love your positivity Alanna !
Hi Alanna. Good to hear your eyes are doing well. Gotta say, it took me a little while to get used to you sans lunettes (let's see how much French you remember 😁), but I think you look fab. Thanks for the vid, entertaining as usual.
Hi Alanna jhow do you get on with our long dull winter evenings? As in Canada your winters are colder, however with the snow the light is so much brighter than here.
I really enjoyed this informal style of vid, Alanna 👌 Only a consummate media professional would be capable of carrying off this style. London's one of the greatest cities in the world for tourists and rich inhabitants and hell for the rest of us. Been there suffered that. The garden squares are such a lovely feature, perhaps use them, as a structure, to explore and video the non touristy parts more ? Good that you got one of the fastest trains in the UK - 140mph on HS1, that's a mahoosive contrast to Canada - perhaps try that next time you're over, for a laugh ?
Hi hun. I have only just found your channel so it will take me a bit of time to watch all of your videos. In the first video I saw you said that you get some bad comments from some people about you shouldn't be here. There will always be that type of people in this world so take no notice and live your life the way you want to. Good luck. ❤
Not to spoil your video but that crescent you showed in your video is where a certain silver tracksuited DJ used to live. I knew one of his neighbours.
I live in a suburb of Ottawa. On Oct 30, we had our first snowfall, Temperature minus 1/ Can't comment on transportation because we ge one city bus in the morning, another at night. The train service does not reach my part of town, and anyway, it doesn't really work most of the time
Alway loved the videos, and this one was like a cosy chat with a friend. Loved it. And maybe check out your Babbel French for 'Croissant' or you could be mistaken for an American.
Peace and quiet is such a precious commodity and I consider myself very lucky to be able to enjoy it (most of the time|) in my small Kentish town. Invicta!
WooHoo Mini-Adventure! The sound quality from your microphone is great. I'm looking forward to seeing more adventures in the future. I watch whilst I'm unwinding after work, or whilst working on non-day-job projects.
I have been to Canada but not since 1979, many of my Canadian cousins used to come over to the "homeland" (their mother was English, my dads sister), anyway not once did I hear anybody unable to say the word out properly, well with an accent but that was it. But now every Canadian I meet and everyone I hear on here cannot say "out" properly, you not all seem to pronounce "out" like a demented Scots man, in that you all now say "oot" instead of "out". When did you all start saying "oot". We had to learn French for 3 years in England in the 1970's. It was so interesting that I can still remember the French word for window, I can't remember how to spell it though. I had a deal with my French teacher Mr Bristol, if he left me alone I would leave him alone and that really worked for both of us. I also had similar arrangements with my German teacher and my English teacher so I wasn't being racist or biased.
Hi Canuk Cuz: I took a screen shot of your outfit and sent it to my son & family in BC. My daughter-in-law sent me a photo of her leaving the house for work and you two dress identically. It must be a 🇨🇦 thing. An Ontarian in Kent and a Métis in N Van in sync, down to the baseball cap!! 😂🙄
Alanna your welcome , the uk is pleased to have you hope you have great success and stay for manny years more i do agree with you living in the countryside is the best never lived in a city or a town .
Anyone else find it weird that us white folks call ourselves "ex-pats" when we move to another country, but we call darker skinned people "immigrants" when they move to another country?
Woot! "Anyhoo" is back! Eleven by my count plus three tight-lipped smiles. I may start counting "as a Canadian" too. And then there's the unusual situation of Alanna pimping Babbel but being totally unable to pronounce "croissant" correctly. This girl just keeps giving and giving.
Hi,Alanna,at one point towards the end of the episode I found myself nodding at your statements,I almost felt like a psychiatrist as you unloaded your thoughts…Anywhooo you will be pleased to know that everything is normal😀🤣.Please…keep them coming, cheers Roly🇬🇧.
I think if you’re super cute, polite and fun to be around people not matter where they are from will be welcomed in most countries around the world. Britain is lucky to have you 😊
Can't agree more. Alanna is adorable, a bit like a younger sister. I think I have said it before but being in the EU damaged our links with our Commonwealth cousins. But I would say that, being the son of a Commonwealth subject.
@@hairyairey We joined the EU (EEC as it was then) 51 years ago, on 1st January 1972. Links to the Commonwealth were already getting slack back then and would have continued to do so, EEC/EC/EU or no EEC/EC/EU. Leaving has done major harm to our economy and world influence, the effects of which will be felt for decades to come. 😥
@@andypandy9013 very funny. We are making our own trade deals and we no longer have to pay the EU for shopping outside the EU. Where do you think the Windrush generation came from?
@@hairyairey I think you need to review 'our own trade deals'. Now that we are out of the world's biggest trading block we have lost our economic clout and have been taken to the cleaners by smaller economies such as your Commonwealth buddies Australia and New Zealand. You obviously haven't woken up and smelt the coffee yet. Have you? 🤔
@@andypandy9013 the EU share of world trade is falling, the Commonwealth share of world trade is increasing. Who would you pick? Plus we are still trading with the EU.
With the drab weather in Winter and being indoors a lot it's worth investigating a Vitamin D supplement? The lack of it can make you feel 'low' both physically and mentally. Just a thought, good video btw.
Hi there ! I love your channel. I have commented sporadically before, but heres another 😂 Dirty Chai sounds aaamazing 😊 I had chai tea last year for the first time and was obsessed with it. I will give that above a try because it sounds so perfect for Autumn 🍂 anything cloves cardamon and cinnamon... is a win for me. Just a tip - try Golden Milk... aka Turmeric Milk. It is very rich, and super comforting and I have an inkling you may like... if you want my honest suggestions I would love you to do a video on your first experience making and tasting it... as I am a sucker for your food / snack tasting and cooking posts as its how I found you back in 2020. Anyhoo 😊 big hi from Manchester, where it is very autumnal / saturated in precipitation- which I also love ❤️ Thank you, Alanna ! All the best 👍
Why would we tell you about the mascara or the dye? We're British, we want the joy of seeing you find out. 😁 Great video. I saw what you've been watching in your newsletter and I'd recommend The Burning Girls. It seems fairly standard at the beginning but the acting is good and it pulls together for the last episode. Give it a go.
With winter coming & you having a desk job you might benefit from taking vitamin D3 & K2 MK7 supplement to help with your depression most of northern Europe don't get enough also take a good vitamin C supp too they work together 😃👍

As an aside i went to have my eyes checked today and was informed by the optician that i had the beginnings of cataracts in both eyes but its ok im just old now, her words.
Hiya Alanna, I like your typewriter mug, I'm glad your eyes are better without your spectacles, Me and my friend Michael are coming to London in 12 months time, We both went to London 20 years ago, but we couldn't fit everything in, so where coming back to do so next year, say Alanna, keep up the good vlogs, I hope your depression has gone away, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England
When I saw "croissant" in the subtitles at 7:30 before you actually said the word, I thought, I really do hope she's not going to say "kruSSANTE" like an American. But you did! Surely your exposure to French in Canada should have had an effect . . .?
Sorry to hear that you were feeling depressed. It would (I believe) cheer you up (and everyone else for that matter) if you were to plan another taste-test. Please, please please! There must be a coffee vlog in the works...or more beer and cider. After all, seasons greetings!🎅🍷🍺🎂
Has Alanna tried different types of coffee sold in the supermarkets or in the high street chains ? I know Alanna has done tea and biscuits, beer (tastes like beer) and Cider but cannot remember Coffee.
I worked entirely from home during the height of the pandemic and grew to dislike the isolation and unchanging nature of the experience. I'm currently doing three days a week in the office and two working from home, which seems like a nice balance. I find there's a lot of interesting stuff, both work-related and not, going on that you only find out about by running into random people outside your working group in the corridors, or random chats if you go to see someone that doesn't seem to happen in the same way online. I share your view of London; it's just far too big and yet also far too crowded. I live in a city with a population of around 500,000 and that's just a nice size; big enough that there's plenty of things happening but small enough that the city centre is walkable and practically nowhere that I visit regularly taking more than 45 minutes or so on the bus.
I live in maine usa and i wanna live in either swansea wales or cardiff wales so i found your page and im learning alot and how to do and get things done so im all set to go! ❤️ thank you so much!

Hi Alana good news about your eyes and enjoy viewing your videos especially your trips out, however i know you said you live in Kent but think it would be good for you sometime to see more of the north of the country speaking as a Yorkshire man. Maybe you will see differences and contrasts from the south be intersting an outsider (none British) point of view. Also think you would find Yorkshire a beautiful place to visit.
British weather if fine similar to Northern Pacific weather never really cold in South East rarely below Minus 4/5 🎉degree’s in summer normally 30 celcius max. No typhoons dark at 4pm in December, in June doesn’t get dark until 9,30 long spring summer days. Just make sure you have 10 days in sunshine in February to break winter up. Have been doing that for last 50 plus years.
Hi Alanna, glad to hear that your eye surgery went okay. Incidentally, I was wondering at first why you were not eating that delicious looking item in your right hand and I then realized that it was a microphone. Microphones are crunchy...yum!!! LOL. We are having sympathy weather to he UK here in Melbourne. It is cold, wet and all the leaves are falling off the trees...but wait...it is spring here!! Love the train and bus rides. At what station did you get off the train in London? I have actually heard of Harley Street. The Paddington Gardens Park there looked quite scenic. Believe it or not, we also had French classes at school, where I used to live in Sydney. watching you eating lunch there is making me feel hungry. Thanks for sharing your day out. Anyway, take care. Good that you got one of the fastest trains in the UK - 140mph on HS1, that's a mahoosive contrast to Canada - perhaps try that next time you're over, for a laugh ?
Fab stream of consciousness, great run around London!
When using public transport that is pre-booked or limited, it is better to be 30 minutes early rather than 30 seconds late
I LOVE YOUR CONTENT YOU'RE SO NATURAL KEEP THE GOOD WORK UP
Hi hun. I have only just found your channel so it will take me a bit of time to watch all of your videos. In the first video I saw you said that you get some bad comments from some people about you shouldn't be here. There will always be that type of people in this world so take no notice and live your life the way you want to. Good luck. ❤
Beautiful girl, lovely presentations and explanations, this girls on fire 😻😻
Good to know the laser eyeballs are going well! The Old Man and the Sea is such a good book, I'd be interested in a bookshelf vid?
Not to spoil your video but that crescent you showed in your video is where a certain silver tracksuited DJ used to live. I knew one of his neighbours.
I live in a suburb of Ottawa. On Oct 30, we had our first snowfall, Temperature minus 1/ Can't comment on transportation because we ge one city bus in the morning, another at night. The train service does not reach my part of town, and anyway, it doesn't really work most of the time
I retired at 57 and it's bloody great. Don't know how I managed to fit work in for all those years.
Alway loved the videos, and this one was like a cosy chat with a friend. Loved it. And maybe check out your Babbel French for 'Croissant' or you could be mistaken for an American.
Super day trip to London! Great news about your eye balls too. I bet London, Ont is exactly the same as London, England 🤣🤣🤣
Harley Street!!!.... There must be something in this RUclips vlogging😉
I can't get used to the lack of glasses!
Love the vids, kid.
I have been watching for a few years, and you do it very well. I am also watching Griff Rhys Jones’ series on Canada - v interesting too.
Peace and quiet is such a precious commodity and I consider myself very lucky to be able to enjoy it (most of the time|) in my small Kentish town. Invicta!
Invicta is the motto of Kent, not Kentish Town. 😉😂🤣
Very droll!@@andypandy9013
WooHoo Mini-Adventure!
The sound quality from your microphone is great.
I'm looking forward to seeing more adventures in the future.
I watch whilst I'm unwinding after work, or whilst working on non-day-job projects.
Hope you enjoyed your visit to my home city of bath it’s only 90 minutes from London and more chilled
Did you know Chris Broad from Abroad In Japan is from Maidstone? I wonder if there's any real life overlap
That fish n chips actually looked very nice.
Alanna your welcome , the uk is pleased to have you hope you have great success and stay for manny years more i do agree with you living in the countryside is the best never lived in a city or a town .
Keep up the good work ❤
OMG, it's amazing how quickly that I as a viewer have gotten used to Alanna without glasses!
Anyone else find it weird that us white folks call ourselves "ex-pats" when we move to another country, but we call darker skinned people "immigrants" when they move to another country?
Thanks for another great video Alanna love your new style, Christmas is just around the corner that'll get rid of your winter blues cheers again 😊
@@hairyairey
We joined the EU (EEC as it was then) 51 years ago, on 1st January 1972.
@@hairyairey
I think you need to review 'our own trade deals'.
I watched to the end . . Was excellent. . . Loved it. Especially the London clips. Ian UK
Hi there !
I love your channel. I have commented sporadically before, but heres another 😂
Dirty Chai sounds aaamazing 😊
I had chai tea last year for the first time and was obsessed with it.
Anyhoo 😊 big hi from Manchester, where it is very autumnal / saturated in precipitation- which I also love ❤️
Thank you, Alanna !
All the best 👍
Why would we tell you about the mascara or the dye? We're British, we want the joy of seeing you find out. 😁
Great video. I saw what you've been watching in your newsletter and I'd recommend The Burning Girls. It seems fairly standard at the beginning but the acting is good and it pulls together for the last episode. Give it a go.
Try and find the Ben Elton clip about getting a double/table seat on a train
Love going round with you and your hand Gerbil (Mike?) - I am sure I will be pronouncing Anyhow as Anywhoo pretty soon!!!
With winter coming & you having a desk job you might benefit from taking vitamin D3 & K2 MK7 supplement to help with your depression most of northern Europe don't get enough also take a good vitamin C supp too they work together 😃👍
It's my dream to travel to the UK someday! It's such a beautiful and historic country.
Better make it soon: Some groups are solidly intent on removing all mention of history.....and making life hell for the British. Fact.
Excellent - but start planning now. Don't just 'dream': DO ;-)
Hannah Rickets has a weekly vlog on London every week
Glad your eyes worked. Much better without specs.
A small town outside of Toronto? But that looked like Niagara on the screen!
got this in my feed and at first i wondered whos this and why me. then i realised it was you alanna lol, so still not used to you without glasses. thanks for the eye update good to know all is well. As an aside i went to have my eyes checked today and was informed by the optician that i had the beginnings of cataracts in both eyes but its ok im just old now, her words.
I miss the glasses. They suit her. Like a modern day Deirdre.
How did you decide on Kent as a base? X
Ahh that's awesome! I really enjoyed Cardiff, it's a neat big city without feeling TOO big ☺️
Yeah! i liked it you did a good with this video, stop putting yourself down girl you got this!
Didn't notice the orange dye Alana, probably the poor lighting, so you'd be just fine, it won't make the headlines in the newspapers tomorrow! I enjoy all the vids, thank you, and I see this one is a year ago, for goodness sakes I must have missed it. Take it easy and blessings, Frank
Thank you for the reminder about the sad light Alanna. I presume these are also a thing in the Dominion of Canada?
I know someone, put blobs of cream on her face, forgot to rub them in, went around town and back, then noticed them🤣
Alanna is a really cool chick. 👌🐥 She seems like a lot of fun to be around and she is actually really fit🏃♀️
Rob in Melbourne Australia.
What has Chi got to do with coffee ☕this is from confused pod machine owner who has seen Chi Latte advertised. I always thought Chi was another name for Tea?
My daughter has just moved to Paris for 2 years, her French ok, but is not fluent.Fortunately her workplace is English speaking, however she is working with someone who has just arrived from French speaking Canada, and she cannot understand a word she says lol
😂 to be fair, I wouldn't understand a word they say either lol hope your daughter is enjoying Paris!
