I came here wanting to modify my pedal and am glad I stayed for the whole video. It might be for some people but I really love the stock pedal. Thanks for the video!
I like the variation with the toggle switch but the stock metal zone sounds better to me. Being able To shape away the bees if desired would be cool. I liked the MZ for the sharp distortion, I don’t like the muddy stuff. Less fizz would be welcome though.
I think Diabolical Summoning was Metal Zone into a clean amp. Also Tomb of the Mutilated and Kill used MT2 as a boost and Tomb is an iconic tone IMO. With the right EQ Metal Zone is fine BUT you have to know what you're doing with EQ. Edit: I'm talking about the stock pedal. I have some ideas for mods that would calm down the 100 hz and 4500 Hz gyrator boosts because they're a bit much.
If I understood you correctly I agree! Taming the distortion to be more progressive from a soft distortion to the brutal sharp killer bees 🐝 attack would make the pedal PERFECT 👍The EQ on the MZ is second to none.
If you have some ear, and smarts, the stock Metal zone is a great pedal. No real need to mod. Butt I like stock and a simple mod. To get the pedal in the heavy rock era.
The mods make it sound pretty boxy in comparison to the original, but that may just be the recording or specific amp settings. BTW you have it the wrong way around regarding the clipping switch: middle position is no diodes, top would be your silicone (?) diodes, bottom the LEDs. Overall cool video though, cheers!
A long time ago, I wanted to try Humphrey Audio's Slo-Diezel mod. Back then, Mark Humphrey had a Yahoo group for DIY electronics circuitry info. I wonder if I can find those pages now. I also wanna see if his mods are any different from these 2 mods
The stock pedal sound so much better. Butt now you know. And one pedal needs the whole set up too. Your playing a guitar and amp right? Through a cable. Everything matters, even the body of the guitar player. Brain might be some of it too.
Just straight into the amp. Replicating the ways the generic guitar player uses it for the comparison. I didn’t use it in fx loop in the vid, but it sounds killer in the loop for sure. That’s the way I’ve heard most guitarists that like the original pedal sound use it. But a good noise gate, overdrive, and maybe a light chorus sound with the MZ would sound beyond crushing! The mods made a lot of great changes for sure 😁

The original MT2, sounds kick ass and much better in my honest opinion….

@@davespin9034 there's too much 4.5kHz. Like a sickening amount.
Mods sound like ass compared to the original IMHO.... original for the win
Thanks
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you very much for this well explained mods video :)

Pretty cool but l wish you cranked up the gain and low end to really get some heavy tones out of it
I've done the Dietzer Mod from the Wamper mods book, and this pedal turned into a huge sounding, articulate monster.

Pretty sure Silicon diodes is with the switch up, and middle is bypassing.
Is there a schematic for this?

If you ever compare, please let me know! I’d be very curious how that turns out as well...

Whats your signal chain and did you try it in the effects loop return and use it like a pre amp?

i need traduccion 😭😭😭
This mod sucks,it ruins the original tone which is able to get any tone u want mostly anyway with its sweeping eq
The mod sucks.
Stock Mt-2 clearly win.
Mod Mt-2 sound like ass.. 😆
Still gross sounding hahaha. The metal zone can’t be fixed. Quit trying.
