    happy for you brother. wish you a happy journey. I've applied for the CERN summer internship few days back but sadly my professor uploaded the LOR few hours past the deadline. Anyways remember some random account on youtube is cheering for you and is really happy for you.

    hey Bro, please help me out with this in order to get internship from CERN one must have to be enrolled in masters or undergraduation. Like I have completed my graduation can I also apply to open summer lab internship or not ??? I hope you will reply

      @advaitdhingra9698  Год назад +1

      Hey bro, as far as I understand as long as you've completed 2 years of undergrad and are still in university you can apply. So either if you're a master's student or a bachelor's student with at least 2 years. Hope that helps. Feel free to reply if you have any more questions. I'm not really the right person to ask though, as I'm still in highschool.

    Interesting pictures from inside the CERN are appreciated (like, data acquisition center is pretty much a supercomputer, very cool!). However, it looked to me like 99% of your work - coding - you could have done from home, without a need to go to your office. Is that true? Or is there some proprietary code that you can access only from CERN computers?..

      Only really need to be there when conducting an experiment, but as an experimentalist, it can help give some motivation.

    • @advaitdhingra9698
      @advaitdhingra9698  Год назад

      Keen observation. The reason it's important to be there in person is because only then is one connected directly to the CERN network which gives one access to lots of software goodies. In my case I was there for an internship programme that selects 10 students from Germany who get to go to CERN and do a project. Some participants had more hands-on projects where as others had more theoretical work. So that's why I was there in person and why it's better to be. Thanks for the feedback!

      @@advaitdhingra9698 Are there instances when you actually ask people around you about things related to your work, and benefit of their input? Since you probably can access all CERN tools remotely, in what exactly is there a value of being there in person? I guess an experimentalist might want to work installing the target or checking some hardware (though I doubt a physicist, not a specialized engineer would do that), but for the intern doing coding - did you actually, not theoretically, get any benefit from coming there?..

    • @ThePancina
      @ThePancina Год назад +2

      Hi Michael S. - I am not the OP, but since I have been working at CERN, there are a few things I noticed: a) There isn't a strict "that's work for physicists/engineers"-thing. A lot of the physicists are working mainly on the software side. There are a few theoretical ones. But you can also see physicists working sometimes more on the engineering side.
      b) Especially for the interns it's probably nicer to be at CERN directly. In this video you have seen that they not only had an organized visit, they also had dinner and lunch together. Probably mostly with the other interns. But it helps to feel more connected. And it probably helps with building long lasting memories.
