Yes, yet I was immediately drawn to him, like I took it to heart to learn how to use him, because his move set was so unique and interesting when executed right. Been my main since VF2.
Akira being the most difficult character is weird for a protagonist. Let alone in FS, he's also classified as the best character in the game. The tier below Akira features Taka, Lion, and Brad.
he is also the the person you fight at the end of arcade before Dural. i think the point is to make the star of the game come off as being a really skilled fighter. so when a person picks him up they have to respect his skill and dedication to his art. you know reflected in how technical he is.
@OzeeManDias I know I'm 10 years too late but Akira has a move that wasn't shown off here that might be one of the hardest inputs I've ever seen in a fighting game. Toryū Tenshin Hazankai: Jirō Tanzan is it I believe. It's one of the hardest string in the game and IMO, harder than the SPOD
I understand where your coming from but you seem to of forgotten that the charm of Virtua Fighter and what makes it distinguishable from other fighting games is that it's a no non-sense fighting game series. VF doesn't need to resort to gimmicks and style aesthetics such as hit-sparks, it's always been about the steep technical gameplay.
It's actually Akira's Stun Palm of Doom, where you have to press G+P+K, then Back, diagonal P+K then Back or Forward+P. Very tricky to pull off, but thanks for tips on the double-palm, l didn't know you could eliminate the crouch by buffering a dash. And yeah, it sucks VF isn't that appreciated, VF doesn't have much of a scene in the west but Japan absolutely loves VF.
Desk is always so fly with music synchronizing. Awesomeness. I hope you give Persona 4 Arena a try. The creativity you could do with that game, it be a field day for you Desk.
Dat knee. I like how you went with his VF2 theme, which is his best one imo. It's a shame you can't mix them up in the game, you can only select one game's soundtrack at a time.
For the most part, yeah. I just wish I could replace individual tracks with ones from different games. Surprised Sega didn't think about that ahead of time.
Okizeme in VF is very important, but there are (crudely) 2 cases: you tech rise/roll or you do not. Both have their own oki stuff and one difference is that no tech allows quick down attacks for attacker but (in most cases) circular mid/low kick for interruption. So attacking falled opponent can be risky. Jumping is beefed up now, it's fast and can go past lows very well, jumping attacks are now cool too. Works wonders for aforementioned low rising attacks too. Of course it can kill you too...
From my short amount of time playing VF it seems like its a different type of high execution that's required for actual game play as opposed to just doing combos. It's hard to explain in a youtube comment but doing a basic akira combo takes a lot more work and finesse than doing something like akuma's cr.lp, cr.mp xx lk tatsu, sweep. I'm not saying the game is bad because of it, I'm just saying the learning curve for basic combos feels steep.
@SFtheWolf Vf has hard execution because of things like Akiras SPOD and knee launcher, Jackys flash sword, Gohs throw reversal into Tsukami, etc. But asides from that, the multitude of defensive techniques and OS:s are also a big factor. Consider a ECDTEG, for example (look it up).
This is an awesome video. Some very creative stuff here, particularly the combos from Akira's reversals. If you do another VF5 vid, I would suggest capturing more combos against some of the heavier characters, such as Wolf, Jeffry or Taka. That could make for an interesting challenge. :) Also, did you do this version of "Ride the Tiger"? I would totally buy it off of iTunes or something if you could sort out the possible copyright issues. Sounds great!
As of May, the most popular fighters in Japanese arcades are. 1. Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena 2. Gundam vs Gundam Extreme Vs Full Boost 3. Tekken Unlimited Tag Tournament 2 4. Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown 5. Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition Ver. 2012 6. AquaPazza: AquaPlus Dream Match 7. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike 8. Dragonball Zenkai Battle Royale 9. BlazBlue Continuum Shift II 10. Guilty Gear Accent Core XX
Well that was cool, had some nice editing in it. VF5 isn't my cup of tea but if you plan on doing vids for it then you should do one on brad and/or vanessa
You mentioned character requests, so I have one. I play Jean Kujo and would LOVE to see you do some combos with him. He's got some "target combos," if you want to call them that, that are fairly useful and combos that start with them would be truly fascinating. It would also be completely sick to hear a remix of his theme performed by yourself.
I love your words.I'm a Soul Calibur player. After the 2 and 3 the series started relying too much on flash and less substance.SC2 didn't have combos it was understanding a character's style against another character and figuring out your opponents strategy. In SC5 it copied SF and Tekken. Its no longer original. What you said about VF is how I feel about the SC series well use to
its visible* and 2nd, i can plainly see them getting hit. the impact of the hit is whats not visually translating. they say you're great if you can mute an animation and still know what's going on. in this game, they only rely on a gimmicky wiggler effect on hits. its not the most elaborate visual approach if you can wrap your mind around that.
#1 Holy fuck I can't believe how old Final Showdown already is. We are long overdue for VF6. #2 Notice how these combo don't take off 75% of your life even with wall damage? One thing of many that makes VF better than Tekken. Takes more than 2 successful hits to win a round. Really gotta earn those wins. #3 The VF2 arranged soundtrack is legendary.
I wouldn't mind the lack of indicators if the hit/hurt boxes on characters actually allowed them to make close contact with the character models. The high punch that hits a grounded opponent 0:28 and the rising kick move 0:40 are hilarious examples of this.
Yo desk, how hard was it to do this video in comparison to SFxTK vids? I personally can't see myself playing virtua fighter, the game is a man's game with ridiculously high execution and my execution is decent. I play vsav which has the same link-cancel rules that SFxTK has and I can do basic stuff for vsav like play an average bulleta but I still find that VF has a steep learning curve.
Combos aside how different is the neutral game in comparison to a 2D footsies heavy game like street fighter? I'm assuming that jumping forwards is a terrible option in VF as well. Also how does the game handle okizeme opposed to street fighter?
Please try ttt2. I know lots of people are going to cover it already but it would be interesting to see different levels and knowledge known shown by different people in ttt2
How has this game progressed for so long and still hasn't put in hit indicators, or even better animation? Its like Mortal Kombat to me, I can't feel the hits unless the camera shakes b/c when they get hit, nothing really happens visually. The game models are the only thing thats changed! I used to play the original when I would just spam Akira's doublekick btw :)
Desk your Tech is Amazing. I have two questions. that the song in the video and Can you Do a StreetFighter X Tekken BRYAN break down. Anyways Awesome video again Stay Classy
????????????? how does any one even think about using akira... I know he's a super hard character to use it takes an insane amount of time and practice but this character is just ridiculous! super kudos to you man i could never have patience to use akira never!
desk i dont know much about you im one of your more newest subcribers so i dont know if you have explanined this b4 or not but is there a reason you dont use training mode as apposed to doing a versus mode when makeing these videos?
I still come back to this video over ten years later. Akira's the best
Akira is by far the hardest character to master in Virtua Fighter games.
And perhaps the hardest character to master in a 3D fighting game.
And perhaps the hardest character to master in fighting games, period.
Yes, yet I was immediately drawn to him, like I took it to heart to learn how to use him, because his move set was so unique and interesting when executed right. Been my main since VF2.
JDAAMusic nope Lei has gimmicks and crush options to mix up,but Akira and Kazuya are so simple on paper that they are really hard to master.
+RG Mercer Lol this guy really said Lei
Akira being the most difficult character is weird for a protagonist. Let alone in FS, he's also classified as the best character in the game. The tier below Akira features Taka, Lion, and Brad.
Akira = not hard anymore

+Dhaval Katbamna Agreed. Its the same input but it flows better now.
It helps to use a fightstick. Akira can be really fun to use.
Akira is far from an easy character to learn. But every strike feels so satisfying. Like you’ve earned every single one of them
Of course. The hardest move in the game to pull off consistently and here Desk is performing it wholesale.
That is not him

Keep up the great work bro!!

This is the most beautiful combo video I've ever seen.
Yes!! That old VF music gets me SO FRIGGIN HYPED!!! Time to download the soundtrack and relive the glory days. :)
i love the sync with his yells
me 2.
Here's to an Ultimate Showdown combo video from Desk
I played Vf3 in like 1998? Akira knee, DLC, SPoD was so hard from either side consistently. You're amazing, for real.
That’s why it’s dead now
@@kaihenri8357 i hate you
lmao copypasta material
I still come back to this video as I think it is still one of the cleanest combo videos I have ever seen put together. I aspire to edit this well.
You make any game look like art, but more VF would be awesome. I'd really like to see Shun Di, Eileen and/or Vanessa personally!
When the opponent gets hit, they react like they've been hit. That's how you can tell when they've been hit.
Wow, fascinating breakthrough there pal
Out of all of Desk's videos with a lot of one frame links, this is probably the best one.
It's actually Akira's Stun Palm of Doom, where you have to press G+P+K, then Back, diagonal P+K then Back or Forward+P. Very tricky to pull off, but thanks for tips on the double-palm, l didn't know you could eliminate the crouch by buffering a dash.

Those transitions between the gameplay and replays were godlike.
A lot of anime music video folks should learn from the way you edit this. Amazing. I love akira!

This applies to DOA5 right?😂😭🤣
Great video, Desk. Those Akira combos were really good. I hope to see more VF5FS vids soon. Thanks and keep 'em coming.
For the most part, yeah. I just wish I could replace individual tracks with ones from different games. Surprised Sega didn't think about that ahead of time.
I can't believe that street fighter didn't even have a crossover with virtua fighter .
Of course, Ride the Tiger from VF2. Nice touch.

Thanks for showing some love for Virtua Fighter Desk. I hope you'll do more characters. I've been using Lion since VF2 came out in the arcade.
If possible, do you think you could also make a combo video/situational counters with Jean?
dat knee tho, i swear i only executed that shit 3 or 4 times in my life Xd, playing it since VF 4, 4 evolution, 5 and 5 FS.
the most difficult to master but the most satisfying to play.
I agree, Tekken is all show when it comes to 3D fighting, VF is just straight up 3D fighting at its purist.
Never have I seen so much win in a single video
I love this tune reminds me when i was kid playing virtua fighter 2

laughed so hard at that sneak punch as you were jumping out. cheekiest move ever!
Remaster this awesome video Desk!!!
how tf do you do that knee move (the move that’s k+g but letting go g at the first frame)
I like the editing. Not too flashy.
I lol'd at the part where Akira jumped off the stage and punched the enemy...
You're ten years too early to challenge Desk!
I love the old BGM of the VF series... The newer ones have no soul...
