    When the Vow Dried Up
No one could remember such a severe drought. In the entire village there was only one well that still provided water. What is worse, some villagers were clearly wasting the little water that yet remained. So, Elias stood up before all and vowed to God that if he had the power, he would correctly manage the little water that remained.
Most villagers trusted him, so they gave him the power. Yet, some villagers, unwilling to accept hardship, threatened him. Elias tried to resist them, but eventually it became clear that if he did not let them overuse the water, they would kill him. So, he allowed a few to overuse the water, the water ran out, and the entire village died of thirst.
Aphorism: -He who is false to his oaths fears mortal men more than he fears God.
