As a retired studio singer with a busy 55 year career behind me, I am so thrilled to find this video! Many grateful thanks to whoever posted it. Capricorn One was fortunate indeed to have this wonderful score. I had the honor of working with Mr Goldsmith on the movie Poltergeist and took the opportunity to mention to him how much I loved his score for Alien. He smiled and said it was not the greatest of experiences for him, that Ridley Scott had been difficult. Rest In Peace, sir, and thank you for every note!

With Mars ablaze in the sky this month, I couldn't help but think of Capricorn One, the fake Mars landing movie. In particular this masterful cut of Goldsmith's fanfare to the dynamic film. So much better than any trailer made at the time!

Oh I've watched it enough times, as a video editor myself, to see you aced this cut to Mars and back for real! And watched the trailers from the '70s which felt pretty weak and random by comparison.

Jerry Goldsmith produced such varied music for films and TV. Even with the greatest composers you can notice similarities in some of their compositions. Have never thought that about Jerry Goldsmith.

Capricorn One was one of the first movies I saw in the theater by myself. That theme playing over the letters on the plain black background left a distinct impression on me. Also the first thing I remember seeing Sam Waterston in.

Thanks so much for posting this... perhaps the greatest composer in the modern age... I sometimes wonder what composers of the classical era(s) would have thought of his work. I'd like to think that that they too would have been impressed.

Jerry Goldsmith est l'un des plus grands compositeurs américains de musique de films, plus jeune j'avais été impressionné par la musique de "La Planète des singes", ainsi que par "Damien la malédiction II".

I saw this when it was first released in 1977 at a drive-in theater! This music set up the entire movie and it gave me the shivers when I heard it. It is so stark and foreboding, almost to the point of hostility. More proof he was a master at his craft to evoke those types of feelings from musical notes on a page of paper.
You should do the same for Total Recall, Patton, and Star Trek The Motion Picture. Three of his finer themes.
