Hey folks, thanks for watching. I really, really enjoyed this one. Here's the cover I was telling you about. Hope you enjoy it! ruclips.net/video/SyzqtKVtoJc/видео.htmlsi=PNjUVVtlNKUeC0nQ
Hey Dave! I enjoy watching your videos. Roy Clark, he was great! Another really great musician, comedian, and singer I think that you would enjoy would be Barbara Mandrel. She had a show with her two sisters.
Before I retired this year I was a paramedic in the city Roy Clark lived and my partner and I were once dispatched to his home shortly before he died because he had been sick for awhile. We didn't take him to the hospital but we got to chat with him for about an hour. Very pleasant humble man who wanted to know about us than talk about himself
Luther Perkins was Johnny Cash’s original guitar player responsible for a lot of the Johnny Cash sound. Thats who he was referring to when he said about take it Luther.
Roy was such a comedian that it took most people are long time to realize what a talented player he was. If you haven't seen him play the banjo yet you should.
You know I absolutely love all these old legendary guitarists but I don’t know who no one ever mentions how awesome Steve Martin is on a banjo! He is awesome! He is usually only recognized as an actor but please do some research and pick one! I would love to see him get some recognition!
Roy was about 31 when this was recorded. I was a big fan of his from around this time forward. He played guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle, he had incredible talent, and he was loved by everyone who knew him.
Rest in Paradise Roy! He invented the guitar slap/tap which other great guitarists perfected! Eddie Van Halen was asked how did it feel to be the best guitarist in the world and his response was "I don't know. ask Roy Clark"!
Great reaction! Roy sang this with Johnny Cash in 1987, he had a few more tricks up his sleeve, for one thing he used Johnny’s foot to help out playing. You should check it out, just search for Roy Clark and Johnny Cash Folsom Prison Blues, should take you right to it. 👍👍
Roy Clark and Buck Trent on "Dueling Banjos"! Roy Clark and Jimmy Henson playing "Orange Blossom Special"! "12th Street Rag"! Roy and Spanish "Malaguena"! If it had strings, Roy mastered it! Also, a very funny and humble man!
This song was first recorded and released by legendary Johnny Cash in 1955. Roy Clark is doing a creative and funny version of it that I did know existed. I'm glad that your channel was suggested to me. Cheers.
He was a regular on the TV Variety Show Hee Haw, which featured country music and hilarious hillbilly comedy skits. You should try to watch some of the episodes. He and Buck Owens headlined the show, and they were both great musicians. It played on Saturday nights on American T.V. from the late 60s to the early 90s and featured famous country singers every week.
Check out his other songs on RUclips. He could play just about anything with strings (guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin…) at a master class level. Truly talented!!
I've been with my wife since 1969, and we both thought it was funnier than H from the first time we heard it, waaay back. Roy was such a part of our lives--Hee Haw and regular TV guest appearances, almost always something on the radio--that you can easily take them for granted until they're gone.
You haven't yet heard two of my favourites by the late Roy Clark (and he sings on both of them). "Yesterday When I Was Young" is heartbreaking; "Thank God & Grayhound" is funny as hell. Thanks for playing Roy Clark (1933 - 2018) - he's still one of my favourites.
HEY DAVE! 😊SO YEAH DAVE, ROY WAS ON A WEEKLY SUNDAY NIGHT VARIETY COMEDY HOUR SHOW CALLED ( HEE-HAW ) 👍BUNCH OF COMEDY SKITS, BITS, SINGERS AND MUSICAL TALENTS FOR SURE! 💯TAKE CARE
That's right. Jimmy Dean was one of the first crossover media stars, a Texan who went from leading a country music band to hosting a national TV show and acting. He also happened to be Roy Clark's former boss, who'd fired Roy because he couldn't show up to gigs on time. But he later put Roy on TV because he knew his talent.
Johnny Carson once said it was hard to believe that one person could have that much talent. He could play anything with strings, was really funny and he could sing. Yes, he had some high charting songs back in the late 60's early 70's. They were on the country charts but still sold a ton. He was co host of the tv show Hee Haw. It played in synbdication for years. He was a great person, too. He called Tulsa his home for many years and still owned a recording studio here at the time of his passing. I remember in the 1970's and 80's, he sponsored a celebrity golf tournament that benefitted a children't hospital in Tulsa. He even sponsored a race car. It is kind of sad that whenever the great guitar players are listed, rarely are country artists even mentioned where in reality there were some great ones. Eric Clapton says the best guitar player alive is Albert Lee. A sessions player from the U.K. who played mostly country but was in Clapton's band for years. Oh, I have gone on long enough. It is time to give Roy, Glenn Campbell, Jim Stafford, Chet Atkins, tommy Emmanuel, Brad Paisley, Vince Gill and Alber Lee some of the recognition they deserve.
Jim Stafford is another world class guitarist that is also a comedian. You should check him out. Roy Clark co-hosted the TV program Hee Haw for several decades with Archie Campbell that started in the early 70’s. John 5 credits watching Hee Haw growing up with Roy, Glen Campbel, Jim Stafford, and other greats guest starring as his inspiration to learn to play guitar and other stringed instruments.
I sho' hain't ne'er heerd "RC Cola" here singin' this "Johnny C" tune o' da "Stoney Lonesome" 'n' it's Blues! 'N' I general'lee rekolekt awf'ly good musiks! 🤏🫠👍
Roy had fun every time he was on stage, and he made sure you did too. We’ve all seen ‘entertainers’ that look like they’re waiting on death row instead of performing on stage.
Another interesting thing about Roy, he was into drag racing. He had and drove a couple/few very hot Mopars. Search Roy Clark’s race cars. He was also successful in some Beverly Hillbillies episodes.
If you want something wild and live check out Rory. Gallagher doing 'Shadow Play', He does things with that old Strat of his that I aint seen no one else do. Three chords and the truth brother.
Highly recommend watching him do the 12th Street Rag live. There's a couple of versions on RUclips. Here's a link to one that I enjoy. ruclips.net/video/xlrcNtH5pu8/видео.htmlsi=ioYBt2aP28Y9ymGY
Roy Clark can play anything that has strings, as well as he plays the guitar such as the fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and so on so you should look into him playing some of those instruments.
I'd like to see you react to Jerry Reed & Glen Campbell Southern Nights. It's live outdoors, both dressed casually at an outdoor setting. It's a little blurry, but the audio is great and both are loose as a goose and displaying personality. Glen is admitting that Jerry taught him this guitar lick.
Roy Clark can play anything with strings...guitar fiddle banjo and plays ypthem with objects too....he is amazing also does any type of music...look at the duo with johnny cash
I needed a good laugh, so this was just what the Dr. ordered, thanks! If you like comedy with your musicians, you might want to check out Victor Borge, or Liberace, as they both worked a comedy act into their music at times, but were also highly talented pianists. Maybe you are only interested in guitar players and pianos wouldn’t be your bag, but I thought I’d mention it.😊
Enjoy your channel - check out Jerry Reed his song Amos Moses AND he was on Smokey a n d the Bandit movie - great song great guy - cheers - from Washington the State near Victoria BC great neighbors
Roy Clark singing "Yesterday When I Was Young". That was his highest charting pop hit. It's on my list of the 13 saddest and most beautiful songs of all time. If you react to it, do an early version- there's a later version where he's mostly whispering. An earlier live version is best. ruclips.net/video/GqU5xcQJ-YE/видео.htmlsi=srhIC_KygS88jbbL
You've got to check out Phil Keaggy. His live performance of Salvation Army Band (acoustic) or John the Revelator (electric) - he's a great singer, performer, and songwriter.
If I remember correctly I think I saw him on TV with Arthur Feidler and the Boston Pops Orchestra plaing Tico Tico? That was a long time ago, I am getting old, maybe I am mixed up. I have searched for it but have yet to find a reference to it? Help me out here.
How about when Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie Did a episode on CMT's Crossroads. Doing the song ''Ruby'' ? It will make you grin. If it doesn't I will hang up my Captains Hat and never don it again.
I believe he covered a little bit of stage fright with his application of humor at times. If you want to hear a stunning Song played completely straight, my favorite is “Yesterday When I Was Young “. Amazing!
As a musician, how the hell is he playing in rhythm, and tapping his feet OUT OF RHYTHM?!? As much as you appreciate Roy Clark, you don't appreciate his skill enough.
Make sure the Orange Blossom Special has the kid playing banjo while Roy plays fiddle. Other one might be called dueling banjos. These will give you a better perspective of his tremendous talent across instruments
Have you ever reacted to Stevie Ray Vaughan? Lots of live videos available on yt. I recommend anything from the El Mocambo or Capitol Theater or Austin City Limits.
Don't strain yourself trying to copy him it's not going to happen. He happens to be the MASTER of all string instruments forget Eddie Van Halen and Stevie Ray Vaughn they have limited skills next to the man Mr. Roy Clark is musical Royalty. The others like to play one guitar but this man is no jack of all trades he is the MASTER of all string instruments. Your sarcasm toward this legendary master calling him a comedian didn't go unnoticed. The fact that he can burn the strings while clowning around is a testament to his skills. ❤rest in peace Roy Clark. 🎸🎻🪕🎤🎵🎶

Hey Dave! I enjoy watching your videos. Roy Clark, he was great! Another really great musician, comedian, and singer I think that you would enjoy would be Barbara Mandrel. She had a show with her two sisters.
Got a new teacup, I see. You didn't have to. I was just kidding you a little over the chip in the red and white one. ;)
Oh wow, I bet that was a treat. Obviously health issues aside.
Luther Perkins was Johnny Cash’s original guitar player responsible for a lot of the Johnny Cash sound. Thats who he was referring to when he said about take it Luther.
He always looked awkward..
Roy made it look so easy, such a natural performer he was, comedic talent and musical talent... the man had it all (and he loved every second of it!)
Agree 100%!
2nd that
You should watch Earl Scruggs and Friends play Foggy Mountain Breakdown featuring Steve Martin nd other celebraties.
Yes! That video is excellent!
Steep canyon rangers
We all always need more Roy Clark in our lives
Agreed
Check out Roy Clark's, yesterday when I was young.
😢
That's a great one. The older you get, the more it hits home.
Roy Clark was born April 15, 1933, so he’d be 31 years old in 1964 (I was 10 that year!)
Damn, I didn't realize he was another tax day baby. This was done the year I was born.
Roy Clark was such a wonderful musician and performer. Enjoyed your reaction.
Roy was about 31 when this was recorded. I was a big fan of his from around this time forward. He played guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle, he had incredible talent, and he was loved by everyone who knew him.
Roy Clark was a treasure.
Roy Clark is wonderful and a real nice guy.
Rest in Paradise Roy! He invented the guitar slap/tap which other great guitarists perfected! Eddie Van Halen was asked how did it feel to be the best guitarist in the world and his response was "I don't know. ask Roy Clark"!
I don't know where we go after leaving this life but I am 100% certain the house band is going to be amazing.
I concur with @thewindle, Roy Clark and Johnny Cash playing the "Orange Blossom Special"!
THANK YOU!!
This is as funny the second time through as it was the first. Thank you!
Roy Clark was born in '33, so he was 31 years old here.
For more musical comedy I suggest Victor Borge, classical piano and crazy antics.
Yes, he is so creatively talented in the area of comedy.
I was just thinking about Victor-a most definite 'must react to'😊
Victor Borge was fantastic
I love all of those too!!
All I can say is PURE GENIUS!!!
He was a Talent.
Roy Clark was a comedian who played multiple instruments and played them better than almost everyone else
Roy was a master musician who happened to be funny as well. He was an entertainer, but only after being a master at several instruments.
Exactly!! A master musician first but also a master entertainer!
This song was first recorded and released by legendary Johnny Cash in 1955. Roy Clark is doing a creative and funny version of it that I did know existed. I'm glad that your channel was suggested to me. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Check out Keb Mo version of Folsom Prison
It doesn't get any better than that!
Check out him and Johnny Cash doing The Orange Blossom Special, Roy on guitar and Johnny on harmonica
He was a regular on the TV Variety Show Hee Haw, which featured country music and hilarious hillbilly comedy skits. You should try to watch some of the episodes. He and Buck Owens headlined the show, and they were both great musicians. They had asked him to have his own show but he turned them down so the producers came up with He Haw
Regular? He was a co-host.
@Glittersword Thank you. I was trying to put it into the right words but did not get it right. Definitely, I should have used co-host.
A lot of Tommy Smothers vibe here, too.
Clarification: That ain't no guitar playin' comedian. That's a guitar virtuoso with a sense of humor.
The Luther that he referred to was Luther Perkins, Johnny Cash's guitarist, that played a baritone guitar.
Never seen this! Thanks for sharing this with me!
This was fun, I'd never seen it before. Thanks!
Roy Clark was an actor, comedian, and musician. Was very popular and on the Hee Haw weekly show
Roy Clark was a master of stringed instruments and comedy. But, overall, what he was and so few are now, was a complete entertainer.
Check out his other songs on RUclips. He could play just about anything with strings (guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin…) at a master class level. Truly talented!!
a little more humor. check out his song "Thank God And Greyhound She's Gone"
I love that song. Dedicated it to ex way back in the day.
I've been with my wife since 1969, and we both thought it was funnier than H from the first time we heard it, waaay back. Roy was such a part of our lives--Hee Haw and regular TV guest appearances, almost always something on the radio--that you can easily take them for granted until they're gone.

If you haven't already seen it, you should watch the one where Roy plays guitar, violin and banjo.
HEY DAVE! 😊SO YEAH DAVE, ROY WAS ON A WEEKLY SUNDAY NIGHT VARIETY COMEDY HOUR SHOW CALLED ( HEE-HAW ) 👍BUNCH OF COMEDY SKITS, BITS, SINGERS AND MUSICAL TALENTS FOR SURE! 💯TAKE CARE
I grew up watching HeeHaw as my grandfather always had control of the one TV we had in the house....turned me on to guitar at a very young age.
It was the Jimmy Dean show. 😊

Merle Haggard!!! Great songwriter/singer. From the same time era as Roy Clark
Dave, nice job on Folsom Prison Blues!
Thanks so much!
Try 12 Street Rag by Roy,it is live and a good one to watch.Yesterday When I Was Yong for a serious one by him to see how good of a singer he was.
I sho' hain't ne'er heerd "RC Cola" here singin' this "Johnny C" tune o' da "Stoney Lonesome" 'n' it's Blues! 'N' I general'lee rekolekt awf'ly good musiks! 🤏🫠👍
If we doin' RC cola who has the moon pies?
@keithdyar1612 RC Cola & Moon Pies: "breakfast of champions!"
👍🤩👍
Everyone keeps recommending different videos, but a must watch is Roy Clark on Sesame Street!
Glad you looked at this one. :)
12th st rag is a good different style song he does.
Roy had fun every time he was on stage, and he made sure you did too. We’ve all seen ‘entertainers’ that look like they’re waiting on death row instead of performing on stage.
That's why I always try to play with a smile on my face. 😁
@ Me too man. If you’re not having fun, why bother. This is music, not rocket surgery.
Another interesting thing about Roy, he was into drag racing. He had and drove a couple/few very hot Mopars. Search Roy Clark’s race cars. He was also successful in some Beverly Hillbillies episodes.
Ooh nice
If you want something wild and live check out Rory. Gallagher doing 'Shadow Play', He does things with that old Strat of his that I aint seen no one else do. Three chords and the truth brother.
He was on the Jimmy Dean show. Jimmy was also a comedic musician which is probably why Roy was leaning heavily on the humor.
He was born 15 April 1933, so if this was 1964; he was 31 when he did this.
There is another video which is in color of Roy doing this song and he uses a drinking glass to play the guitar. Check it out. It’s great
Now find the vid of Roy doing the Platters "The Great Pretender". Hilarious...
Check him out on dueling banjos.
Highly recommend watching him do the 12th Street Rag live. There's a couple of versions on RUclips. Here's a link to one that I enjoy. ruclips.net/video/xlrcNtH5pu8/видео.htmlsi=ioYBt2aP28Y9ymGY
Check out his performance of "Malaguena". Any of them. But the one on "The Odd Couple" T.V. show is one of the best.
If you would like Roy Clark songs with vocals check out Thank God and Greyhound, Yesterday when I was Young, great reaction
Thank you!
You need to check out his rendition of "Malaguena". It's phenomonal. Try to find the live version from Branson, Mo. it's the best.
Roy Clark can play anything with strings...guitar fiddle banjo and plays ypthem with objects too....he is amazing also does any type of music...look at the duo with johnny cash
Ricky Skaggs Country Boy is amazing Live on the BBCs Wogan show
This is a good one..before it even plays ..haha
I needed a good laugh, so this was just what the Dr. ordered, thanks!

Loved the Glen Cambells. You do know he doesn't read music don't you?
Jerry Reed lightning rod is a smoker. He shreds finger style
12th Street Rag..not sure if you reacted to that one yet? Amazing
I would suggest looking up the one from an old Jimmy Dean Show performance. 👍🏻
I can do it like this, or this, how about this. Total prodigy
I believe he covered a little bit of stage fright with his application of humor at times.
If you want to hear a stunning Song played completely straight, my favorite is “Yesterday When I Was Young “. Amazing!
I can imagine that. Often easier just to become a character
As a musician, how the hell is he playing in rhythm, and tapping his feet OUT OF RHYTHM?!? As much as you appreciate Roy Clark, you don't appreciate his skill enough.
It's wild right?
I know you've done a few Roy already...
How about old HeHaw show w/Battle of the Banjos and Orange Blossom Special?
Make sure the Orange Blossom Special has the kid playing banjo while Roy plays fiddle. Other one might be called dueling banjos.
These will give you a better perspective of his tremendous talent across instruments

The Jimmy Dean Show.
In case you did not know. All that stuff he was doing with his legs was poking fun at Johnny Cash who he was good friends with.
