    okay, so i watched that video BEFORE i got my teeny tiny russian toy. I always had big dogs and so getting a tiny breed was totally new for me. When i watched your video prior to having my little Daisy, i thought you were exaggerating. But oh my god. People ANNOY ME!!! It was fun the first week but now when i walk her, i just want people to leave me alone. I am moderately extroverted but this breed is an attention magnet. Positive as well as very hateful. But nothing could prepare me for the million opinions people are releasing on me on a daily and keep thinking back in your video and think... SHE WAS RIGHT (T_T). I love her though. She is learning fast, is an absolute sweetheart and so eager to please.

    • @bellaandnemo

      thank you for that comment! I am glad that my point came across! Yes I also thought people were exaggerating but after 4 years of commenting every day both good and bad it gets freaking annoying . as i also say in the video these are not only my opinions but I gathered opinions and thoughts from many other RT owners to give an honest review of all the negatives. the video intent was to show if you are fine with the negative then probably this is the breed for you and if not maybe to look elsewhere. I am of the firm belief that one needs to know the good, the bad, the ugly when choosing a breed. your comment is super appreciated ! best of luck with your little sweetheart

    I have 5 Russian Toys and love them ALL. I find them very trainable, and one has multiple titles in Nose Work in AKC and UKC in the upper levels, Farm Dog titles, Barn Hunt titles, CGC, Fast CAT, Conformation, and is working on Rally and Obedience titles. I don't do Agility because of my issues, not his. The others are in training for these. They are very cuddly, loyal, barky, healthy, fun, portable because they are small, and I call them soft terriers because their temperaments aren't as crazy as a lot of terriers. I have trained a lot of dogs and own a lot of dogs in my 62 years, and I love this breed!

    Personally, I really like this breed. Never personally met any but they remind me of my two most recent breeds that I’ve owned; long-haired Chihuahua, my current dog, and three Papillons over the years. In the 1990s I raised poodles both standard and miniature. I found that the Chihuahua and the Papillons really do a good job of training humans. I’ve heard it in the United States these dogs have been mistaken for Papillons or long-haired Chihuahuas on the rare occasions they’re seen. I’ve seen him in a dog show setting only. Your information is very very useful. People should always consider carefully what type of dog to get. I imagine in the United States there would be fewer comments Towards a Russian toy the walk down the street than in other countries. My current dog, the long-haired Chi, is going to be my last due to advanced age and ill health. Enjoy your little guy I think he’s adorable and I bet he is super smart. ❤❤

      Great to hear! Thank you for your words. I like the breed too, but I think it is important to hear from owners what some negatives are of the breed, hence this video! Nemo is often mistaken for a chi, mix or pap. Because they are so rare. however just since getting Nemo in 2019 this breed has also boomed in popularity! oh he is super smart! thank you

    The big dog mentality, in small size, yes, my Russki not has a fear to go after bigger dog,usually goes for the throat instinct of small dogs do, she loves chase birds and shes a very fast runner,i have lge yard, i would never walk off lead, she great walker not a dog that sniffs everything out, she just walks, so well. I just steer away from dogs when walking really otherwise never bitten anyone has no interest to, a human. She so damn loyal to me its lovely. I couldnt find a better small dog, not yacky but great watch dog if someone near comes to door. She terrier in her, more active evening she not over active more like a cat if let her find her curled on bed. Bc hair not fur is good so not constant fur on everything i recommend her highly enough so easy care for with small kids or older person. so good taking out,ready go in her carry bag loves it, so loyal well behaviour. Slittish at times to sudden noises nervous with noises highly sensitive ears, She wont pee or poop till gets home so easy maintain can be fussy eaters. Eats little not food orientated. Mine is clingy to me yes but so easy maybe bc she came from a show judge&breeder mine was desexed tho has all papers proof pure bred, bc lived with her brother &ears dont stand as perfect so desexed bc ears not perfect may bred pups with issue her original owner didnt want take chance with cartliage issues, i got her@2half she little contact other humans, bc from the country, so why city noise@1st.very jumpy,sensitive to noises.

    I’ve been looking through different dog breeds to decide what my first dog would be. This is the first video on Russian toys. Don’t know if that’s a good sign. But I think they’re absolutely stunning dogs. And I wanted my first to be a tiny dog who would live for a while. I grew up with medium sized dogs (English staffys) very different to Russian toys. My only concern is that I probably would want to get a staffy as well. And they are tough strong dogs who have the best personality’s. I just don’t know if I’d wanna risk the safety of a Russian toy if I got a staffy puppy after. My family currently has a 4 month old staffy and she’s already weighing more then my friends small poodle crossbreeds. Would you say get the staffy first and train it and set boundaries with smaller dogs and then get the delicate Russian toy? I don’t know I’ll have to figure that out. But I’m sorta set on the three dogs I want. Cocker spaniel, English staffy and Russian toy 😍

    • @bellaandnemo
      @bellaandnemo  2 года назад +2

      watch my video on russian toy and how it is living and owning them :) Personally I want shelties and croatian sheepdogs in the future but I will hold off getting a croatian sheepdog due to the size difference. I think for me it's too scary eventhough Nemo loves all dogs regardless of size. I know plenty RT people who have large breeds with their toys so I think it is more personal preference and the training youre willing to put in. Russian toys are delicate only this year 3 of the toys I know have broken legs and 1 had to amputate a front leg sadly. I think cocker is a better fit with a toy than a staffy, especially with the prey drive some staffies can have it could potentially not be good if they're not growing up together and if you don't focus on training. Wish you all the best of luck to find your dream pack :)

    • @Bazibishop
      @Bazibishop 2 года назад +1

      @@bellaandnemo thanks so much! That makes a lot of sense. My first staffy had an insane prey drive and was extremely cat aggressive. We never got a second dog until he passed because he thought he was the alpha male and honestly if he didn’t have us he would have ended up in a shelter or put down. Our puppy now is much calmer but she is almost too friendly and doesn’t know boundaries when it comes to playing with dogs. I think I might get a staffy later in life mainly cause I have my family staffy puppy at the moment. If I had the funds I would get them together so they could grow up together. And yes I did read online the main concern with RT is that they have brittle bones and can fracture and break easily. I tend to like smaller dog breeds anyway but yes keeping in mind how the dog sizes and personalities would all interact. Also love shelties my dad had one growing up and it lived till it was 18 and a half. And looked up the Croatian sheepdog stunning. Great taste. Will check out more of your videos!

    I’m considering getting this breed and I kind of love the idea of a big dog within a small size. I’ve had a toy poodle and it’s basically like having a cuddly toy with you which is great but I craved a more “dog” like dog if that makes sense. Could you maybe tell me if you have trouble with the barking inside the apartment? Is that trainable so the dog wouldn’t bark or would stop at command? I live in Finland where quite is appreciated by neighbours 😂

    • @bellaandnemo
      @bellaandnemo  Год назад +2

      Hi! Thank you for your comment! I didn’t have problems with barking excessively inside because I live in an apartment and made it a big priority from the start. I taught him it as tricks for be quiet and to bark. And when he barks I just say thank you thank you and he understands I heard him. But ofc it’s very important to remember that barking or alerting was a big purpose of the creation of this breed of course they are always “ closer “ to a bark than maybe some other breeds :) if you’re in finland I recommend Micro Miracles Kennel🥰 good luck to find your bestie !!

    i had chihuahuas for 25 years i now have a bigger dog. You reminded me of how much more people comment on smaller dogs! My dog is medium size now and while i have gotten a few comments it's few and far between. It used to be constant. I think it's a small dog thing, especially if they look unique as my last one did. He actually looked just like a smooth coat Russian Toy, i'm sure he was not pure bred chi since he was a rescue. Anyways this was useful info, i was wondering how much of that terrier prey drive they had.

      Wow, what a whiner. All those traits can be desirable to an experienced owner. And, FYI, any responsible breeder will take one of their dogs back at any time. It sounds like you should contact the breeder and return your dog so he gets an owner who appreciates him and is not annoyed and just tolerating him. Then get a Labrador. They are laid-back and not so smart, and the prey drive has been bred out of them-a perfect choice for unskilled, first time dog people.

      They need to be out very often in the beginning since the bladder is so small. When I got Nemo I was out every 20 mins, every 30, every 40 every hour and so on. Slowly building the time between and also keeping pee pads inside. I limited the area he had inside as well so I could quickly learn his signals. For example at one point he stopped using the pee pad and started peeing on the entry mat, I was confused because he had used the pee pad well. Until I realized he had connected the door with going outside and going to the entry mat / door way was his sign that he needed to go out. So as soon as he did I ran outside to the same spot every time and he started only doing his business outside after that. It took a long time until he was fully fully potty trained. I think about 1 year until we got into the routine we have now of going out 3-4 walks per day :) don’t give up! Consistency is key!

      @@bellaandnemo I really don’t want to give up on Roo.
      He has a cat door that he can go out onto the screened porch and I put a payment out there for him but he will not use it and I work so I’m gone about 56 hours a day which makes it very hard and trying to take him out on walks we run into so many fleas and ticks it’s really really hard and I have tried several different kinds of flea meds and they just do not work. he’s a very smart dog he knows how to sit to wait for his bowl and if I go to head his bowl towards the floor and I stop he sits back down so we have this little game that we play to try to get his bowl to the floor without him getting up and he’s learned really well he loves to play Chase but he also likes to bite and Nala and chew on you and I don’t know how to get that to stop either especially with my four-year-old grandson do you have any suggestions? He makes this funny noise That sounds like the wild dogs of Africa and then he gets all excited and starts tonight and chew on your fingers and bite at your face.

    • @bellaandnemo
      @bellaandnemo  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@wendybrown7068 How Old is your puppy? These dogs need a lot more than just pottying in a yard. If does sound like maybe he is too much for you right now. They need a solid 3-4 walks per day as adults, I walk about 30-45 minutes each walk. It’s the minimum for them
      To be happy and not rowdy inside. Nemo knows about 100 tricks 😁 they need a lot of stimulation despite their small size. I never leave nemo more than a maximum of 7 hours per day, but that is the absolute maximum, days i need to be away from home longer he goes to a doggy daycare. But also those 7 hours to be alone were reached after about a year of training consistently. In the beginning only leaving them 10-15 minutes can be a challenge. For fleas and ticks I use tablets sometimes as well as natural remedies, and then ofc I bathe him at least every 3 weeks. When it comes to biting, it depends on age, smaller puppies bite a lot until they’ve changed all their teeth and that can be stopped by giving chew toys and diverting their attention. To let them use their nose and to lick up their food helps stimulate and tire them out as well and that can also help with not biting as much. But ofc a 4 year old small child needs also to learn how to behave around a dog. And to learn what to do when they bite on the child. But I’m not a professional trainer so for that I can only
      Suggest to find a professional
      Trainer in your area.
      I wish you the best of luck

      @@bellaandnemo He sounds like an awesome trainer to me Roo is not a year old yet. I work at a fast food place and the maximum I am gone is about six hours but my son and his wife are always here they are insiders and do not like to go outside. Roo Has lots of toys and likes to play tug he also likes to threaten the squirrels out in the backyard they get rid up by the window and are not afraid of him as of yet lol thank you for all of your advice. I hope you post videos of all of the tricks that Nemo can do

    Your reasons not to own a Russian Toy are about the dumbest things I"ve ever heard from a dog owner. Dog lives a long time as a reason? Maybe you should consider not owning any animals--ever!!!

      Like I’ve stated in other comments . These are reasons not only from myself but from multiple dog owners :) it’s also not maybe big reasons for you but for others they are. Since I own the breed obviously it’s not something that I personally think is an issue... i recommend if you don’t like the video exit it and watch something else :) no need to comment rude comments :)

    the only one reason wich really reason - is barking and maybe training moments-but i would put it diferently. dogs can play if they are different size-they are not as silly as u think-ofcourse depends on age and aducation of big dog-but u really a lot overdramatic on that one. other peoples opinion is just "i dont care" stuff. to change a breed u like becouse of stupid unpolite people? weird. (i had a big dog, now i have a small one)

      these are not all my personal opinions but the opinions of about 10 people i talked with who own the breed. when you have a breed of 1-3 kg every dog who is still considered small which is under 10 kg is still a big dog to these very tiny breeds. For me it's dangerous, a big dog doesn't need more than a play friendly paw to hit my tiny 1.9kg dog and he could die, that's not being dramatic that is being realistic. I let him play with big dogs (biggest was 86kg great dane) but the dogs need to respect his small size for it to work, they have to be gentle. my best friend have a german shepherd and we never let them be together I never even bring him to her house because her dog is also still young and doesn't realize she is so huge and she gets too rough and would hurt him on accident of that i am 110% sure so i rather not risk it. It's not the only reason I'm never having a russian toy again there are plenty of other reasons for that decision but we all whoever I spoke with who owns a Russian toy agree on this . Russian toy's are not like Chihuahuas they are very much lighter bones and their bones break way more easily than that of a Chihuahua which is usually much heavier bone even if they are smaller in height usually they most of the time weigh a lot more and have a lot more substance making them more able to take a punch so to speak from a bigger dog. Also why should we risk letting them be around larger dogs even if there is a slight chance of injury? that is just not making sense, that is just stressful for the dogs.

    I'm Russian and had many of Moscow long hear toy terriers, your conclusions mostly wrong.

    This girl was wack she acts so selfish with her own dog. She acts as if she hates her dog. I have this dog & im happily living with it & I don’t even have any pay experience. I believe your dog deserves a better less weird owner.

      Wow I’m sorry you felt that way. This video wasn’t made to complain about my dog. It was made to point out some negative aspects of the breed to shed light on them to help potential buyers of the breed. I adore my dog more than anything else but there are things about the breed and with every breed that you can find are more or less positive. I suggest you watch this video -> ruclips.net/video/BGFwc9WY5KA/видео.html to hear all the reasons why you should get a Russkiy toy and the reasons I love the breed. Have a nice day
