Vancouverite here. Here are my additional notes to anyone care to read this:
-It rains a lot here, so dress appropriately
-Driving sucks, but the public transit system should be more than enough for any tourists to get around.
-Vancouver is a safe city. The notorious East Hastings always have police on every block, and even if you end up in working class suburbs such as Surrey or Langley, I doubt anything is going to happen to you unless you intentionally seek trouble
-Restaurants in the tourist areas such as Downtown or Granville Island (shown in this video) are legit but slightly more expensive.
-Because Vancouver is so multicultural, we have some of the best dim sum anywhere. There’s also plenty of ethnic festivals in the summer.
-Most “actions” happen in Downtown and the areas surrounding it.
-But do get out of the city as there’s plenty of natural playgrounds (skiing in Whistler, hiking in the mountains, surfing in Tofino) for you to explore.

Good to visit but way too expensive to live. House prices are outrageous. I live in Canada in the eastern part. I can't even buy a plane ticket...too expensive. It would be at 600$ not including the accommodation. Which is sad 😔

sng1867 it certainly does not rain much in summer, most rain occurs November to March. We do live in a rain Forest area. Rain is only water and it really does not hurt. This gives us our beautiful greenery. We obviously do not get enough in summer, hence forest forest fires. People forget we need rain. Embrace it. At least we do not have to shovel it and we do not live in -15C in winter.

    “Impossible to come away hungry”
I’ve never seen so much hunger and poverty in Canada more than in Vancouver’s downtown east side.

servers that serve alcohol are paid under minimum wage because it's assumed that they will be tipped. it's stupid, but real. so if you don't tip, your server is being underpaid for serving you. it's a hidden tax because every price on a menu is at least 15% more than the price listed because it's expected that you tip. For non-posh restaurants, it's not mandatory though

The tipping section made me laugh because we get a lot of Canadian tourists at my hotel and they are really bad tippers.

When it comes to tipping if using the percentage...do NOT click 20% unless the service was unbelievably good because the % is on the WHOLE bill which has taxes and if you had a few beer, a bottle of wine and/or cocktails those taxes add up and why tip on taxes! If you do click the % an amount of the tip will appear and I believe you can change it, or if you have to click cancel and start again 😉
