Agree, had many great battles with Colin, was the total opposite of him as a driver and man .Great bloke by all accounts, liked by everyone. Funny enough I bought the Impreza RB 320 that came out in 2007 in memory of Richard, great car and actaully made money on it when they shot up in price in the 2010's, wish I'd have kept it now.

The story of arguably the greatest racing driver who ever lived (his % wins beat Hamilton, Senna, Schumacher etc.) and he won in pretty much every class he raced in. He even gave Nascar a go! Stateside he's most famous for his winning Indy. Would make a great reaction, I think you guys would love it.

You first gotta know how to even drive or control the car and finish the race before even learning how to actually win it. Cool Cars mate. When I started getting my first serious wage in the 90's, I ran out and bought a limited edition Violet Escort Cosworth, that thing was crazy and at the time looked like something from a different world, but it also drew so much attention, not in a good way and it was the age of TWOK especially where we live in Leeds and that made the insurance premiums become stupidly high, so I always lived with the fear that it had to be hid away. Funnily enough my dad had an RS 500 in the late 80's and that got stole 3 times, twice from the house and we got it back both times, after it had been used in an armed bank job and the 3rd time, it was taken from outside a restaurant never to be seen again. I had that Escort from 1997 to 2012, it was mint only 18k, but then i dropped on a 9k miles red Evo 6 Tommi Makinnen, now that thing made the Cosworth seema bit slow even though the Cosworth was running at 300bhp at the time, really was a great drivers car. Speaking of which , I sold the Evo 6 for good money because I hardly drove it and bought the RB320 Impreza, their tribute to Richard Burns, although not that much different to other specials it looked mean in all black ad all the little prodrive impovements like wheels, more BHP etc and gradually it became a classic, I wish i didn't sell it when i did, but you always think the grass is always greener.

Also there was a PC port of "Colin McRae Rally" which is NOT the original PC/PlayStation game from 1998(which is good), but a 2014 port of the mobile 2013 iOS game.(Which is not so good)
Seems there hasn't been a Colin McRae/Dirt game in a while since EA bought the WRC licence.

Kalle Rovanperä, the son of legendary Finnish driver Harri Rovanperä, won at 22yo. And now won another championship back to back.
Also, remember some other video about McRay did mention the causes of some of the crashes. For example, he often cut corners even when the navigator had called "no cut", in essence, not trusting the pacenotes they had made together.
Definitely an awesome driver and wish he was still with us to drive, but the wrecklessness could've been lessened a bit without sacrificing too much.

We (me and friends) played the first Colin Game a lot. There was not a lot of good driving games out at the time on the PSX. I think there was V-Rally was not terrible, Destruction Derby was fun but not realistic. TOCA, a touring car game was pretty good but you raced on tarmac. And Ridge Racer, which again on tarmac and more arcade racer. Colin's rally game stood head and shoulders above them all. Even when Gran Tourismo came out the rally events in that game were no where near as good as Collin's.
Even when you'd completed Collin's game there were cheat codes you could enter that completely changed the game, like driving a car made of jello, and silly things like that, It just gave the game a little more fun.
I think it did so well because even though it was quite a challenging game even a player not familiar with racing games could pick it up and play it. It was also a fun game to play with a group of friends. We'd all sit around the TV and winner stays on. The loser past the P1 pad to the left and the P2 pad to the right. and we'd race time trials to see who go the fastest.

He didn’t tell the full story of that championship season. At the second last event in Spain Colin was told to hold station and not push because the team wanted to secure the constructors championship, Colin ignored the team order and pushed taking the lead of the rally, his team had people on the stage trying to slow him down and he just drove through them without stopping “he didn’t hit them”. At the end of one of a stage the team held his car so he got a time penalty and finished the rally second. It was at the Spanish rally that Toyota were caught cheating which effectively meant the team order wasn’t needed after all. Footage of this is on RUclips if I recall & is worth a watch to see that Colin was all about winning, win or lose it was to be on the stage not decided in an office.
Edit: you can see the events of the Spanish rally in the video Racing Legends: Colin McRae about 24 mins & 30s into it. The whole video is well worth a watch.

Growing up in the 90s, my da and brother were big McCrae fans, myself was a big Tommi fan. But I don't think a single rally fan out there didn't love him, and the pair of them together with Sainz, Burns, Auriol were just another great example of a kind of unwritten rule of motor racing, for one driver to be great, they need to race against other great drivers: Fangio had the likes of Ascari, Moss, Farina. Clark had Graham Hill, Brabham, Gurney, Mclaren, Phil Hill, Bandini. Lauda had Hunt, and also Regazzoni, Fittipaldi, Andretti, then Rosberg, Prost, Senna, Mansell. Schumacher had Senna, Damon Hill, Jacques Villenueve, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Alonso, Kimi. Dale Earnhardt had Waltrip, Gordon, Bodine, Rusty. Colin and Burns are missed and not forgotten legends of motorsport.

The DiRT series in itself isn't really for HC sim guys but the DiRT Rally series does the trick. It's in my opinion the best modern rallying simulator. Some would argue that Richard Burns Rally holds better to this day. Dirt's actually my main sim as I do regularly take part in the online events.

    Donut have some decent content.
It's not selling out if it's a new car that turns out to be subpar. I doubt Ford told Colin the car would be that unreliable when selling him the deal

Dirt is by far the best newer rally racing games in my opinion. Dirt 2.0 is the best one if you're interested! Not the newest but the most authentic and it has an amazing mode called historic rally where you can race the most iconic rally cars from previous eras.

Dirt rally and dirt rally 2.0 are really solid as well as the last couple installments of the wrc games. Dirt 5… more of an arcade racer trying to be a sim game at times and that never works. Also not sure how much you know about the guy in the video but James is also an “actor” he’s had some funny lines on drunk history.

From a full on sim perspective dirt rally and dirt rally 2 are the most realistic of the series (the Colin McRae name was removed from the series after his death). Dirt 5 is the latest one but is a really bad and a commercial flop. The most fun game imo is dirt 3, it’s more arcade than the dirt rally games but is a lot of fun
