- Spotlight is a video series featuring Team Discraft members. In this Spotlight, we catch up with new Elite Team member Anthony Barela to give you an insight into his life and how he was introduced to disc golf.
Born with a competitive spirit and a strong passion for sports, Barela grew up playing baseball and once believed it would be the path to his future success. However, it was at the age of nine when Barela's father first introduced him to disc golf. Though he was initially resistant to the sport, he soon grew to love it through weekend rounds with his family, and the memories it started to create.
In 2015, Barela's determination and talent paid off when he secured the United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship and an Amateur World Championship title, marking a turning point in his life. These early experiences not only provided young Barela with a taste of competition but also helped instill a winning mindset that would guide him throughout his career. It was at this moment that he realized his future lay in professional disc golf. Along the way, he forged important connections with other notable players, including Arizona local and Team Discraft captain Paul Ulibarri and 6x World Champion Paul McBeth.
Upon joining Team Discraft, Barela found himself surrounded by a group of driven individuals who continuously challenge one another while providing support both on and off the course. He will be touring with fellow Team Discraft athlete, Adam Hammes and is excited to be part of a group that shares his passion for the sport and desire for growth.
Anthony Barela's goals extend beyond honing his skills on the course. He recognizes the opportunity that being part of Team Discraft presents for growing his personal brand and gaining the recognition he deserves. With his fierce determination and exceptional talent there is no doubt that Barela will continue to excel in the world of professional disc golf, solidifying his place as a name to watch in the sport.

Team discraft I think is the best overall team in disc golf right now. They have the best players and the team is legit stacked right now top to bottom. Very cool to see, and good luck to Anthony this year. He is on track to have a great season. Go get em!

Agreed. There is a TON of talent of the Discraft team these days. From the 'old dogs' like McBeth, Pierce to the up-and-coming, like Barela, Handley, Hammes, Gosage....and let's not forget Dickerson, Gannon, Brodie and more. I don't think there is any other collective team right now that can touch it. I was psyched to see AB sign with Discraft this year - it's going to help him take it to the next level.
