  • Freddie Foreman - "I didn't particularly want to meet them at all..."
    Freddie was doing shop "jobs" with Tommy Wisbey, Billy Hart & Buster Edwards stealing white goods from various places and Charlie Kray ended up being his biggest buyer.
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    Early Life
    Born at 22 Sheepcote Lane, Battersea in March 1932 to Herbert Albert Foreman, an Irishman. 22 Sheepcote Lane was a terraced two-up and two-down house, sharing a bedroom with four of his brothers, situated nearby The Flag pub. Foreman was involved in violence from a young age. He was known for his involvement with audacious criminal plans, one of which was the murder of Frank 'The Mad Axeman' Mitchell - a British criminal previously befriended by Ronnie Kray when they served a sentence together at Wandsworth prison.
    Criminal activity
    Foreman was involved in the Shoreditch Security Express robbery of 1983, which at the time was the largest cash robbery in the UK. For his part in it, he received nine years in prison. At the time of the Kray's arrest, he was thirty-six, and licensee of The Prince Of Wales, Lant Street in Southwark
    Foreman also confessed to the murders of Frank "Mad Axeman" Mitchell, and of Tommy "Ginger" Marks in the 1960s in revenge for the shooting of his brother (shot in the legs). He had been acquitted of the murders at an Old Bailey trial in the 1960s where he was listed as living at Red Post Hill, Dulwich, London. He additionally claimed to have intimidated witnesses to the killing of George Cornell in the Blind Beggar Pub in Whitechapel by Ronnie Kray and to having been a hitman for the Kray twins.
    Arrest and conviction
    He was tried on two separate occasions for murder, and found not guilty, and has convictions for handling the proceeds of an armed robbery and separately for disposing of a body, that of Jack "the Hat" McVitie. Foreman also admitted to the murders of Frank "Mad Axeman" Mitchell, and of Tommy "Ginger" Marks during the 1960s in his autobiography, Respect, in revenge for the shooting of his brother who had been shot in the legs. He had been acquitted of these murders at an Old Bailey trial in the 1960s. Foreman moved to Spain after he left prison.
    Later life
    He is the father of actor Jamie Foreman, Gregory Foreman and Danielle Foreman. In 2018, a biopic documentary "Fred" was released. Foreman’s team approached Salon after seeing its work on underworld documentary “The Guv’nor,” and subsequent movie “My Name is Lenny.” Rather than glamorizing Foreman’s life of crime, “Fred” is a somber and intimate look at the notorious villain towards the end of his life. “Fred” was written, and is directed by, Salon’s Paul Van Carter.
    In 2019 Gangster No 1 - The Freddie Foreman Story was released, a documentary casting Foreman as The Godfather" of Britain's criminal underworld.

    Chatted to Freddie a couple of times, interesting man. Love the old school tales and I'm particularly fascinated with the 60's in general. Let's hope when they finally write a script and do a movie about Fred, it's a decent cast and well produced.

      Meant to be a very savvy dude, I heard he managed to get Charlie Wilson & Ronnie Biggs out of the Country when they escaped from Prison, New Papers & A way out of the Country, idk if he helped with the Escapes, wouldn't be surprised if he helped Bruce Reynolds & Buster Edwards get out of the Country too if it is really true?

      @@68majortom it’s possible. Buster Edwards was part of Foreman’s original firm in the mid 50’s. As foreman was originally from South London he knew the train robbers. He was good friends with Bruce Reynolds. When Bruce got stabbed in the back at a bathhouse in the 50’s by Frank Mitchell (Max Axeman)..Freddie swore revenge! Probably why the Krays knew he would be up for taking him out years later when they wanted Mitchell gone!

    I like listening to Freddy talk about London back in the day. It sounds like a glorious time full of honest criminals all doing a little to get a few quid. When crime was just a job. No drugs and gang wars. Everyone wore a suit and tie. Respected each other and had straighteners if they had a issue with one another. London today is a dangerous place. Kids with guns and knives killing eachother over corners.

  • @Wayne-pr6vs
    @Wayne-pr6vs 2 года назад +5

    I think Freddie found the krays too flash. Freddie was an in the background behind the scenes criminal. Remaining invisible with a psychotic paranoid schizophrenic in ronnie was always gonna end in disaster for everyone and eventually it did. I've never seen one interview where Fred is complimentary about them. As far as he concerned they landed him in more crap and killed a lot of people over nothing.

    • @dave8204
      @dave8204 2 года назад +3

      My Dad was "around" London at that time doing door work and a bit of debt collecting with Brian Reader as a side earner to his building work. He tells me the Krays were mostly known because Ron was a complete nutter and they'd use unnecessary violence. Fred's view of them was pretty much the general view,there were successful gangsters around,if you want to call them that, but you'll never read books or hear about them because they were intelligent and stayed under the radar with legit businesses as their public face. Don't forget the book that John Pearson wrote about the Krays was basically commissioned by Ron Kray to create an image that it was best for Pearson he went along with, a later one tells a different story.
