Hi Billy. I'm a burn survivor. I had 40 % of my body burned with second - and third-degree burns. I went through 30 plus operations in 6 years. My plastic surgeon was Peter Neligan, and he is in Seattle now but was in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I can understand everything you are going through. It will get better, but you have a rough road in the beginning. The biggest thing is to keep up with moisturizer. I use Galaxo Base cream. It's the best for burns. It's not greasy once it absorbs in your skin. You are very lucky. All the best.
@FolgersCoffee most people have insurance and if you don't they'll fully cover anything that's life threatening/altering. I had 30k covered when I had my surgery to keep my left foot

I only paid 3k for a knee operation that would have cost my insurance 70k when I was uninsured. our medical system is the best of the best, its better to live in debt than to die on a waiting list like what happens in countries with government healthcare. there is a reason why when Canadians get seriously ill they come to America to get treatment. brock Lesner being a pretty famous example of someone who would have died on a waiting list but was saved by American doctors. his wife loaded him up in a van and drove him across the border and saved his life. also Canadians often go to free college in Canada and then move to America so they can actually make money lol.
I work for a natural gas company and I'm telling you DO NOT think your safe with a brushless electric power tool around anything flammable. We don't even allow the use of them at work.

Billy please don't beat yourself up. We all make mistakes. I made the mistake of welding on a fuel tank 13 years ago and didn't have my helmet on because I was just tack welding a fuel shutoff value in and it blew up on me. I even washed it out with Tide and hot water. But I ended up losing my eye sight. I was given less than a 5% chance of seeing again but I was lucky and regained my sight a year and half later. But man when it happened my son was 7 years old and my 2 daughters were 9 and 10 at the time. But man I just wanted to die because I couldn't play catch with my son and teach him how to play ball or all the things you look forward to do with your children. But they are what kept me going. And man it shows how proud you are being a dad. So please always take every safety precaution you can and be safe. At the end of the day you need to go home to your family. At the radiator shop I work at we always keep argon or CO2 purging inside gas tanks while welding. We still clean them out with dawn and water and it does a pretty good job, but you know.. it's better to be safe than sorry.
amen, brotha. any time i use a drill/sawzall/really anything that could break a chunk of something into your eye, i wear eye protection. even working under a car, you never know what might fall on you...

My father got in a chemical explosion at a paint factory n was covered head to toe except his thighs in 3rd degree burns. You'll heal up well n never notice. Glad you're ok and hope for a speedy recovery!
This is bad, but could have been SO much worse! Very sorry you went through this but thank you for using it as a teachable moment for others (hopefully). Unfortunately, a lot of the biggest lessons we learn are in the worst possible way so maybe your mistake and suffering will save someone else from it in the future. Heal quickly and completely young man, there's still a whole lot of future ahead of you!

Wash gasoline tanks out with hot soapy water. Use an air drill instead of electric Wash fuel tanks out with hot soapy water. Ventilate. Do all work on fuel tanks outside not inside the shop.
Agreed. I soak all mine down with a non flammable degreaser and then hot soapy water. Never clean it with other flammables and never trust that it’s clean enough. I have used the old torch on the stick trick first also just in case. He got lucky that it wasn’t that bad, not digging plastic out of anything like that.

I did the same thing as a Young Gun..i didnt wash out the gas tank on an Sears brand mini-bike (yeah im that old) i was getting ready to solder a new petcock bung into the tank And ignoring everything my Dad said Wash the tank out with hot soapy water Dont use an electric grinder Dont do that tank repair in my shop! Outside with it now! Well..i struck a flame on the torch..BOOM!! the tank split open and flew across the shop and right into BOTH pieces of rear glass in a customers 63 split window Vette shattered them both i got burns on my face hands and a deep cut on my chin. The worst? Going to school with no eyebrows and no hair on the front of my head to cover the fact i had no eyebrows..Yeah Dad said..Git to school..dont complain take your medicine..betcha wont ignore what i tell you again! We laughed about it years later..it could have been worse
fuel still permiates tanks thats why you let em sit for a long period of time, and when you do still be cautious and check with 20 foot pole and a rag on fire for any fumes left over.. First time i did my steel tank, i just drained it and let it sit empty for 2-3 months and worked on other projects while i did... then tested with the long pole and flame, when it didnt blow up then i cut the tank and repaired the leaks by welding it. This guy was just plain LOW IQ stupid and he'll have this lesson on his face for the rest of his life
Having dealt with tank repair and modification, my procedure was to use the exhaust side of my shop vac to purge and dry the tank for 20 minutes before doing anything else. It always served me well. Thought I'd pass it along. I built a 4wd 85 S10 blazer with a 283 back before you could buy a kit-in-a-box. Did it with all off the shelf GM parts. It wasn't quite as strong as what you have built, but was a blast to drive. Really enjoy your channel and stay safe.
i cleaned and lined gas tanks for a living you are very lucky ive had tanks blow up on me al plastic they absorb gas its hard to remove it hope you feel better

I had a pretty bad car accident on May 9th, and I still can't walk. Gonna need 1 or 2 more surgeries on my right foot and ended up with 35-40 stitches from my left eye up to my hairline. You were lucky, bud. I'm glad you're OK and that I'm still around to keep up with everything that y'all do.
Glad Your ok Billy. I Never thought much about safety until I Became a member of management and now with all of the stuff the company has shown it has change all of my day to day activities.

Makes me feel good Molly has wanted to be near you after your accident. The initial look of burns right after they happen especially facial burns can be to much for some people to deal with. Bubba, im so glad it wasnt worse than it was. Things can turn south in a second. You keeping your cool and staying calm shows volumes about yourself same as when wheeling a car at over 150 mph.

Praying for a quick recovery for you. Ive had a nasty 2nd degree burn on my arm from when i was a teen, i thought that was bad till i broke my neck in a car accident in 2003, and then i was struck by a 4 inch piece of shrapnel 8 yrs ago in the back, felt like a gun shot.

Thank the man up stairs for sparing your eyes and it not being any worse than it is I have experienced getting burnt on my face from a flash gas incident and it is not fun at all but thank God your alright and you will be back like new in a while and at least now you know it can happen and maybe save someone else from making that mistake I wouldn't have thought about it lighting from the drill either so you tought me something to billy don't beat yourself up over it stuff happens when you're messing with fuel systems and it will get you if you aren't 100%focused it's easily done buddy just glad you're going to be ok and hopefully you're wrist will heal back to 100% or very close to it can't be having a problem with your shifting hand or reaction time in the line of racing you do but I am sending prayers for you to get back to perfect again buddy hope to get to see you guys this summer I love about an hour from trails and I am looking forward to meeting you in the future I love you guys been watching all of the channels from day one and feel like you have a special family and talented as anyone in the car and tuning power management and chassis set up your also a great person billy and I can see your a great father to your son hes gonna have a great life with you and your family is blessed in many ways buddy
Billy, I literally feel your pain about the facial burns because I had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on the right half of my face and one arm, much like your situation, from gasoline blowing up and splashing onto me, setting my shirt and hair on fire. I won't even say how that happened, but it was automotive related and really stupid. The pain was quite intense, but even more so when it was starting to heal up. That was about 20 years ago, and you can't even tell it happened now, but I certainly remember it. You are very lucky to escape damage to your eyes and lungs and I'm sure you won't forget about what not to do in the future. You look like you're healing up nicely though and I know you'll be 100% in no time and take my advice on the hair...just buzz it off until the hairline grows in.
Actually tho when you get 2nd degree thru full thickness burns, the pain isn’t that bad till you get your daily scrubs cause the nerve endings have been damaged and are not sending pain signals to the brain as they typically would. It’s the bodies defensive way of protecting itself from the immense pain a burn can cause. My wife has been a Burn Nurse at several of our countries best burn units and the things she has seen and done will churn the stomachs of most of us here. It takes a special individual to be in the burn field!!
Many years ago, a large rock put a small split in my 66 Mustangs gas tank. Before welding I rinsed the tank out 4 times with water, and to just make sure I put the tank in the street and stuck the burning end of a broom handle over the filler. Same big "woosh" you heard and lived through, and the tank literally accelerated like a rocket down the street the length of 6 houses! Glad you are healing fast, and learned a valuable lesson.
Prayers and God’s grace have certainly been plentiful for you, your wife, your son and your family. My wife and I have followed SRC going way back, and the Old Man’s Garage since you both began your independent directions, and then threaded back together. I recall faith being very much in the forefront during the early days, and not to imply that it was anything other than it was, during this most recent years of growth and success. However I kept hearing an awakening in your voice and reflections, while at the hospital, and in the shop. You have indeed been given the gift of not only more time and wholeness of body, but you have a tremendous following of so many people, from so many walks of life, and some are very young and impressionable. Your gift has now taken on a whole new dimension, and I am absolutely delighted to be witnessing this opportunity that has been gifted to you. Pray for the wisdom to spread good things as you step into wellness and continued success and growth. Your son will be a wonderful recipient of a loving and caring Dad, such as you have had all along. Not just an awesome earthly father, but a bigger glimpse of your Heavenly Father. I appreciate the video man, when you work in the shop all the time you tend to forget just how dangerous things are. Simple things that you do from day to day can change your life forever. After watching this happen to you I will be thinking twice about everything that I usually wouldn’t even think about in the shop. My cousin passed away from a explosion at a propane station 😢 while he was refilling a propane tank. Everytime I see a tank it brings back memories of his passing. Always has me on the edge. Hope you recover quickly 🙏 god bless you.

You are correct, you were very fortunate. Thank God you or one of your coworkers avoided having a grave injury or got killed. As you stated, it could have been a lot worse. Painted a 3x3 chest freezer, used a heat gun to dry it quickly. Paint was completely dry and I lifted the lid to hit the inside one more time with the heat gun, leaned in and put the heat gun down inside the freezer and the remaining fumes ignited. It was literally like a bomb . Neighbors even heard it. 3rd degree burns over my face and both arms. Most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. I feel your pain brother. Praying for quick healing

Heard an explosion and my coworker was okay but stunned after a gas tank he was welding on turned inside out. It supposedly had been sitting for a long time. Love your stuff. I’ve worked around gas of all kinds and other flammable materials, I’m a welder by trade and worked in oil and gas industries for many years. We’ve worked on tanks that haven’t been steamed out yet and we purge the tank with exhaust from the engine. We let it exhaust flow through it and do whatever we need to and so far it’s been successful. Just obviously don’t breathe the carbon monoxide lol! I’m sure I’ll get plenty of correction on this, but, oh well. I’m glad you escaped with minimal injuries. Keep the good content coming, y’all are killing it!

Having something bad happen to you sometimes is a wake up call. I was touched when you kept saying how blessed you are and how you all have so much to be thankful for. Fuel vapour is explosive 💥😲😳 Even just a slight whiff of fuel can go boom⚠️ Always take extra care with anything fuel related and sources of ignition. Displaced, didn't kill/neutralize the fumes. Produces a lot of inert co2 and nitrous oxides with exhaust.

First time i did my steel tank, i just drained it and let it sit empty for 2-3 months and worked on other projects while i did... then tested with the long pole and flame, when it didnt blow up then i cut the tank and repaired the leaks by welding it. This guy was just plain LOW IQ stupid and he'll have this lesson on his face for the rest of his life
Having dealt with tank repair and modification, my procedure was to use the exhaust side of my shop vac to purge and dry the tank for 20 minutes before doing anything else. It always served me well. Thought I'd pass it along. I built a 4wd 85 S10 blazer with a 283 back before you could buy a kit-in-a-box. Did it with all off the shelf GM parts. It wasn't quite as strong as what you have built, but was a blast to drive. Really enjoy your channel and stay safe.

i cleaned and lined gas tanks for a living you are very lucky ive had tanks blow up on me al plastic they absorb gas its hard to remove it hope you feel better

I had a pretty bad car accident on May 9th, and I still can't walk. Gonna need 1 or 2 more surgeries on my right foot and ended up with 35-40 stitches from my left eye up to my hairline. You were lucky, bud. I'm glad you're OK and that I'm still around to keep up with everything that y'all do.

Glad your injuries are not worse then they are. Bored or not i wish you would take the time off that you don't risk infection in your burns. Makes me feel good Molly has wanted to be near you after your accident. The initial look of burns right after they happen especially facial burns can be to much for some people to deal with. I'd say she past that test with flying colors.

Praying for a quick recovery for you. Ive had a nasty 2nd degree burn on my arm from when i was a teen, i thought that was bad till i broke my neck in a car accident in 2003, and then i was struck by a 4 inch piece of shrapnel 8 yrs ago in the back, felt like a gun shot.

Thank the man up stairs for sparing your eyes and it not being any worse than it is I have experienced getting burnt on my face from a flash gas incident and it is not fun at all but thank God your alright and you will be back like new in a while and at least now you know it can happen and maybe save someone else from making that mistake I wouldn't have thought about it lighting from the drill either so you tought me something to billy don't beat yourself up over it stuff happens when you're messing with fuel systems and it will get you if you aren't 100%focused it's easily done buddy just glad you're going to be ok and hopefully you're wrist will heal back to 100% or very close to it can't be having a problem with your shifting hand or reaction time in the line of racing you do but I am sending prayers for you to get back to perfect again buddy hope to get to see you guys this summer I love about an hour from trails and I am looking forward to meeting you in the future I love you guys been watching all of the channels from day one and feel like you have a special family and talented as anyone in the car and tuning power management and chassis set up your also a great person billy and I can see your a great father to your son hes gonna have a great life with you and your family is blessed in many ways buddy

Billy, I literally feel your pain about the facial burns because I had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on the right half of my face and one arm, much like your situation, from gasoline blowing up and splashing onto me, setting my shirt and hair on fire. I won't even say how that happened, but it was automotive related and really stupid. The pain was quite intense, but even more so when it was starting to heal up. That was about 20 years ago, and you can't even tell it happened now, but I certainly remember it. You are very lucky to escape damage to your eyes and lungs and I'm sure you won't forget about what not to do in the future. You look like you're healing up nicely though and I know you'll be 100% in no time and take my advice on the hair...just buzz it off until the hairline grows in.

Actually tho when you get 2nd degree thru full thickness burns, the pain isn’t that bad till you get your daily scrubs cause the nerve endings have been damaged and are not sending pain signals to the brain as they typically would. It’s the bodies defensive way of protecting itself from the immense pain a burn can cause.
My wife has been a Burn Nurse at several of our countries best burn units and the things she has seen and done will churn the stomachs of most of us here. It takes a special individual to be in the burn field!!
I’m sure the opioids have nothing to do with the pain. Right?
Many years ago, a large rock put a small split in my 66 Mustangs gas tank. Before welding I rinsed the tank out 4 times with water, and to just make sure I put the tank in the street and stuck the burning end of a broom handle over the filler. Same big "woosh" you heard and lived through, and the tank literally accelerated like a rocket down the street the length of 6 houses! Glad you are healing fast, and learned a valuable lesson.

My cousin passed away from a explosion at a propane station 😢 while he was refilling a propane tank. Everytime I see a tank it brings back memories of his passing. Always has me on the edge. Hope you recover quickly 🙏 god bless you.

Painted a 3x3 chest freezer, used a heat gun to dry it quickly. Paint was completely dry and I lifted the lid to hit the inside one more time with the heat gun, leaned in and put the heat gun down inside the freezer and the remaining fumes ignited. It was literally like a bomb . Neighbors even heard it. 3rd degree burns over my face and both arms. Most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. I feel your pain brother. Praying for quick healing
You are a fucking champion. This very same thing happened when I was 13 working a welding shop. Heard an explosion and my coworker was okay but stunned after a gas tank he was welding on turned inside out. It supposedly had been sitting for a long time. Love your stuff. I’ve worked around gas of all kinds and other flammable materials, I’m a welder by trade and worked in oil and gas industries for many years. We’ve worked on tanks that haven’t been steamed out yet and we purge the tank with exhaust from the engine. We let it exhaust flow through it and do whatever we need to and so far it’s been successful. Just obviously don’t breathe the carbon monoxide lol! I’m sure I’ll get plenty of correction on this, but, oh well.
