Iwata looks really good. Move the scouting of Iwata on the top of scout task list and maybe make offer to him before some blue or orange teams reach him
Nice work on getting Mendyk, he should be a really strong plus for our bullpen although I was sorry to see Gentile having to be included to close the deal. I have a feeing he will be one of this players you look back at and wish you had been able to hold onto him... but i get it and Mendyk gives us what is needed right now.
Congratulations on Goldy at 1B, I am impressed with Cashman’s moves this winter. Something tells me he isn’t quite done yet. Yankees are looking quite formidable this coming year. I like the trades, and I think making a strong play for a young Iwata at SS is important, even if you don’t get him.
Thanks... Goldy certainly is not the highest end of the 1B market at his age, but given what Walker signed for and what Alonso is going to likely make, I think it's a solid move for the Yankees for next season.
Wising you OSS and the fellow followers and scouts a Merry Christmas. You all enjoy the holidays now. Take time off even from sports until the big Boxing Day games on so many different sports. Perhaps baseball is the only sport not having a busy schedule on Boxing Day. Hey Cashman really made up this off-season from what he didn't do last off-season. Much more active this time around and maybe not even done yet.
Thank you, hope you enjoy Christmas and the rest of the holidays as well! I am still a greedy Yankees fan, so part of me would love to see them also sign Bregman, but realistically, I can't complain about the Cashman/Steinbrenner response to losing Soto of Fried, Williams, Bellinger and Goldschmidt!
No doubt! He's making $51 million a season, which is third in baseball. Steve Genus of Texas, who has six straight AL Cy Young Awards is making $58 million, while Josh Higbee, a perennial All-Star/Silver Slugger 1B for the Phillies (.300 career hitter with six straight seasons of over 100 runs and RBI) is making $56 million.
I am really bummed about Rickey, he was an incredible player, a truly unique character in the history of the game, and seemed like someone who would be around baseball forever... he's one of the oldest guys who I got to watch and appreciate most of his career, so I guess I'm heading into that time when more of the heroes of my youth are going to be passing away.
@@oldschoolsports I got to meet him at the Railriders stadium he was gracious. He signed a ball which I have right here in this very room. I live 15 minutes from the Railriders stadium and every year they have an event where they bring in old Yankees and you can meet them. I am truly blessed to have met many of my heroes. Too many to list but Mattingly and Goose are the standouts.
I would go for Iwata if it's possible, especially after losing the infield bats of Bowers and Ramos and to possibly replace Toribio. If the scouting come back positive of course.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on him. I am definitely intrigued. There is part of me that just wants to get an offer out there without an updated scouting report so I don't risk losing him before the report comes back, but with the money he's looking for it probably makes sense to wait.
I don't think there's any reason not to pursue Iwata, it looks like he can be a more than competent replacement for The Franchise if you aren't able to extend him.
As I have been thinking about it, the biggest question with Iwata may be whether signing him precludes us from bringing back The Franchise next year. If we signed Iwata we would definitely need to make some additional big moves if we wanted to bring back Ortega. We probably would have to trade away Weiss and another one or two significant players to be able to afford both Iwata and Ortega. Might be the right move, but a lot to consider!

He's definitely tempting, and on the top of the scouting list, although it always takes a long time with those international free agents!

What is Mike Ramsey's contract? He should be making over $100MM per year

@oldschoolsports dang $51M for 17+ WAR might be the best contract in baseball lol
I agree with you on the international players. Rickey will be missed

Mike Ramsey is crazy
You think you'd have to go into the editor to make a player like him up!
@@oldschoolsports I've always been curious what an all 80 grade player would be like and his pitching stats are as close as you can get to that
