    The first album I bought was Lou Reed's New York...two years later I picked up Velvet Undergroun and Nico...my adolescence was never the same. The velvets accompany me until now... I'm 49. Greetings from Portugal.

    The most authentic Velvet interpretation yet. Cam, you have studied VU for years. You're the best LOU yet!

      That's very flattering - thank you. I try my best to do my heroes proud, but while I may emulate them, to me I still sound like myself! 😅 In any case, I'm glad you enjoy my interpretations!

    This is random but in the footage of the Boston tea party, we finally get to see glimpses of their gear. Looks like Sterling had a cbs era big headstock black Strat with a gold pickguard!

    I bought the first album when I was 14 - over 40 years old. I still listen to it often and love it. It changed my perception of the world.
    This cover is great - all your VU music is amazing.
    Thank you for sharing this.

    More great work Cam, did miss hearing Cale's bass run at the end

    • @CAMFORRESTER
      @CAMFORRESTER  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah I did a little bit of it, but there were some syncing issues with the original bass part that I recorded live as I filmed the video scenes (as with the guitar parts in Sister Ray), so I had to re-record it from scratch, and couldn't remember exactly which fills I did where so just had to guess! Out of the three BTP videos it's my least favourite, but still a bit of fun!

  • @danielhastings3792
    @danielhastings3792 7 месяцев назад +1

    i suppose it would have been tricky to bring a piano in for cale's part given the location you're in. still a very solid cover, you've done the velvets proud with you covers cam!

    • @CAMFORRESTER
      @CAMFORRESTER  7 месяцев назад +1

      I could have done it, but Cale rarely used a piano live for this song (the only recording I'm aware of is the Valleydale Ballroom).
      I think because it's a more upbeat and danceable track, he opted to play bass to help drive the song live. On the gymnasium recording, I think John is playing bass and Nico is playing his organ!

    • @CAMFORRESTER
      @CAMFORRESTER  7 месяцев назад

      I know I wish I had some better effects to create a more convincing strobe, but that was the best I could do with what I had! Tried to keep them on just to the beat on this one instead of more to the lyrics like in 'Sister Ray'!

    This rendition was a bit disappointing... No piano, no bass solo at the end, not quite right vocal melody and intention... I liked your other versions better.

    • @CAMFORRESTER
      @CAMFORRESTER  7 месяцев назад +4

      It's based on the live version, recorded at the Gymnasium in 1967, hence the difference vocal melody. Lou used to sing the song higher live, because the deeper vocals - as performed on the album cut - would not have been audible through the PA systems of that period, and certainly not from his point of view, as they had no monitors in those days! Also they didn't always have a piano live.

    You've turned it into a rhythm and blues number, well done for that, but it doesn't have the pulsating edginess of the original. That would have been the atmosphere to capture, not this. You don't dance to the Velvet.
