Even though it's not very pretty, I'm a fan of the Jinhao 166 because I love the Pilot Kakuno, whose superb ergnonomic section it copies, but always wished it had a clip. I bought four 166s a while back, and actively use three of them--the other one was defective in a bizarre way: the section was mis-molded so that the feed and nib were upside down relative to the grip faceting. I still can't imagine how that might have occurred.
I think the clip reminds me of a lower end Faber-Castell model (can't remember the name). I am glad to see the triangular grip is not so pronounced. It certainly does not look like the model 80. Are there any other Jinhao pens that use Lamy styled Safari nibs?
There are several Jinhao copies of the Safari (JH 777) and AL-Star that do, and the terrific Jinhao 80 does as well. Jinhao-branded Lamy-style nibs have always been excellent writers in my experience (so have the Wing Sung-branded Lamy-style nibs on the WS 3008/3009/3010 and 9158); the generic ones have been more variable in quality.
That Jinaho "Student Pen" - since that's what I ran into it being sold as on AliExpress - has got to be one of the smoothest I've ever written with, but it has a really nasty habit of drying out... I looked it up and saw that others were having the same issues I was, and I haven't used it since. Have you run into the same thing, by any chance, and is that maybe a matter of using a really wet ink in it to try and solve that problem...?

Just started a letter with My "Student Pen", wrote immediately after setting a few days. Have no had any drying out issues. Could be the Jinhao ink.
