The older I get the more I wonder how much humans actually value other lives over their own. This video is heartbreaking. These people couldn’t even shut up & stand still for 4 minutes for the loss of one of their own.

Important Artist yes. But more importantly the world lost a voice for those who don’t have a voice, the refugees, homeless, poor, oppressed, the abused, a voice against racism, against injustices, you name it, in Ireland and abroad. May God Almighty, whom she loved much, grant her the best of His treasures in Heaven. Amen.

Following the death of her son Shane it was probably always going to be only a matter of when, not if. As an Irishman, I'm feeling an intense sadness and regret. Sinéad was one of those very rare individuals whose death will leave an empty void in the lives of many. An icon, an Irish national treasure is no more. We Irish neither appreciated nor deserved nor listened to her when she was alive. We preferred to feel embarrassed by her, wondering what the world at large might think of us. Today many people around the world are left feeling shocked, sad, and yes, guilty too. Alas, judging by their lack of respect and common decency, the GAA spectators in Croke park couldn't find it in their hearts to stay silent for just a moment to listen, remember and reflect. Many Irish people appear to have lost their very soul. They have learned nothing. Suaimhneas síorraidhe a Shinéaid. Beidh tú i n-ár gcroidhe go deor na ndeor. Ni bheidh do leithéid ann aríst. Ba fhíor Ghaedheal thú. Go dtreoraidhe na déithe thú a Shinéaid agus go codladh tú go sámh. 😢🇮🇪

RE having "class": The Irish have never been known to have any, and Sinead herself would probably say that she also didn't have any. But what I was a bit shocked by in this scene was how nobody showed any SOUL. A great singer from their country was gone and they couldn't shut up for 4 minutes.

    • @scarletred8888

@@8angst8 There is such a thing as wrong time wrong place - it was like putting a football match on a screen in the middle of a funeral service - no one is going to watch it - it just wasn't appropriate plus they have been playing her songs and showing her image everywhere the past week, I blame the Gaa for this so called 'tribute' to SInead being a failure, you can't just throw it in as an after thought and expect everyone to drop to their knees, I have not heard one person say a bad word about SInead, nothing but sadness and regret, personally i wouldn't hold it against these Dubliners and brand them as being 'soulless', i was just around the corner from the stadium that day and was happy to hear her voice in the distance, as were all those around me.

But as expected, one pudgy bloke had the audacity to clap his meaty mitts together loudly, MIDWAY through the tribute, causing the rest of the respectful and transitory hordes to hold their breath and thankfully their applause, until the song's conclusion. Goes to show how one purposely disruptive boor can just about rob a solemn occasion of all its emotional impact.

Commenters criticizing fans for lack of response but people have heard this song a thousand times. It’s 5 minutes long. People are still finding their seats. And it’s a football match. Not the fans’ fault.

To be fair to the crowd, it looks like this was half-assed. Blame the stadium staff, instead, for not planning a proper tribute.
This should have been done right before the start of the match with the pitch cleared & most people seated, with an announcement about Sinead's passing, a moment of silence, then playing of the video (or something like that).
Btw, I'm old enough to remember the photo-ripping incident & I have to admit I didn't get it at all & perhaps had a slightly negative opinion about it (non-Catholic Canadian here). I didn't really listen to her music, either, but you had to be living under a rock not to be aware of her.
In reflection, I realize now just how brave of an act that was & how far ahead of her time she was in bringing to light what the vast majority of the public had no inkling of.
She was crucified for that, but she leaves this earth with her head held high knowing she absolutely did the right thing, along with all the other principled causes she advocated for.
A real saint in my eyes. Rest in peace, beautiful one.
