This video is a powerful testament to the impact of editing-and it also reinforces Jack Conte’s concept of the “death of the follower.” I have been a fan of Every Frame a Painting for a long time, yet I missed their recent uploads entirely. RUclips’s algorithm pushes random, attention-grabbing content, often hiding updates from channels we genuinely want to follow.
I was but a budding filmmaker when Every Frame a Painting was just uploading. Getting home from school and discovering that he uploaded a new video was just as momentous as Tarantino releasing a new film for me. And I used to LOVE Tarantino back then! I can’t tell you how incredible this video is. Every Frame a Painting is beyond an OG, his channel was the crème of the crème of youtube filmmaker education / entertainment back in the golden age of RUclips filmmakers. To have these amazing artists breakdown and glorify Every Frame a Painting is so beautiful. God bless ❤️
It is amazing to see EFAP still being talked about and studied all these years later. Granted, they've released a video recently - but even without that - a lot of us who are into video essays still consider them the pioneers of the space. Hope to see more video essayists being talked about and invited here! Seeing LFTS and ThisGuyEdits here was great too!
Go watch Thomas Flight if you haven't seen anyone else implement their lessons/essay's content into the structure of the video. In particular watch his video about continuity, he's amazing!
He experiments in that way a lot. Look at his video on Inside by Bo Burnham. Thomas Flight and Jacob Geller are some of the best in the space right now. Would love to see them here tbh!
When I go back to see old films I am familiar with, it's easy to spot continuity errors from a lot of aspect, the light, the action, the props, but it really doesn't matter when I'm not a film maker, it just works for the audiences.
don't want to be the negative person, but noticed the last of these video's, I just stopped watching after a couple minutes. They have too much fluff that isn't important, or stuff that removes any flow. Sven has some very cool info to share always, that really is about editing and how to use it, and uses the video as an example. But there's also just a lot of "wow, the music comes in when he presses the button, wow look at those practical effects of starwars". Like we know it is cool, but want to know why it works so well. Loving the channel though, just sad I stopped watching these specific ones, or just scrolling through it to find some insights that actually bring in some interesting thoughts or conversation.
Geeee. It is amazing how much the guy at the left loves to hear himself talking,. I wish he could shut up for a moment and let "this guy edits" share his informed opinion.
How it must have felt to edit this video about editors reacting to how an editor edited a video talking about editors.
Like an echo 😂

Every Frame a Painting's work is a masterclass in efficiency in storytelling. No wasted time
