How early dementia diagnosis gave us relief

  • Early dementia diagnosis has given relief to Bill and his wife Jo, who has been in denial about problems with her memory. Her diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia has brought a sense of calm.
After Jo’s diagnosis, Bill decided to stop working early so that they could spend more time together. Had he left it until his retirement, he thinks it would have been too late.
Bill and Jo have been together for nearly 50 years and he says, ‘the good thing about early diagnosis is we can enjoy a new life together.’

I found this story so heartbreaking. What a devoted husband. Stood by his wife Jo right through her illness. I admire you very much. Jo was a lovely lady. I wish you well for the future.

I will remember Jo as she was when Bill met her, a dedicated, caring person, who had a brilliant future ahead of her. She will be missed by so many people. R.I.P Jo.

I just seen your story tonight on the BBC news. And cried. Such a devoted man, and family. Sending you my prayers and thoughts. Thankyou for what you have done in telling your story. I work a couple of days a week in care and see how much this government is failing people. Despite that absolute fact, your love , and courage was steel, even in your exhaustion, relief yet regret and moments of despair. Spiritually I believe, there is never goodbye when there is love, and didn't you show what absolute love really is. Well done Bill. And everyone who assisted and supported you all on such a difficult journey.

I've just watched this sad story on BBC this morning. So, so sad, in fact, I ended up in tears. The suffering that woman went through and Bill's relentless caring for Jo - well, what more can I say. But she is now at peace, in Heaven . . . both of you were a wonderful couple. RIP, Jo🙏!

LOVE IS THE KEY ----my mum lost love with my dad, before the diagnosis, because of an affair, He doesn't remember. but she does, Now she is still with him, and wishes she had dumped him when he had his marbles. She feels lumbered and He doesn't understand why she cannot show love to him. i wish she felt differently but she was really hurt. its was a long time ago, SHE HAS LOST LOVE. its a difficult situation, Im her son.
