I never played this game but holy shit, i understand why this game is considered as one of the best horror game ever. That pure sense of terror when you walk through that foggy street, not knowing what lies behind em, with all of that sounds, the monster could just go straight at you from behind of that fog. No cheap jumpscare, just a pure sense of terror. This game is a masterpiece.
Silent hill is not made to scare ppl it's just a mask what's really scary in it is it's story and symbolism that collises with our real world in many subjects

Of all the youtubers that I've watched, I always come back to Cry for this kind of game, Even The Walking Dead, Until Dawn, all that kinda genre,man. I don't know why, Cry is like the perfect gamer who everything that he does makes the game even better, and he noticed every single details (not every but mostly 😂) and just 80% would choose the same options I would. Glad you are doing this cry this is my all time favorite game. But if i am allowed to give you 2 hints keep reading: 1. Fleeing is a valid option just like in Xenoblade Chronicles. Most enemies can be ignored. And 2. You will notice that sometimes James will look to his left/right that means that there is something. Could be Ammo/Medi kits/Items or enemies. That will help you find some stuff. But yeah i hope you'll enjoy this game as much as i do i know for sure that i'll have a blast watching you going through this hell hole
Many people probably already know this, but I'll throw some tips out too: 1. Examining items in your inventory can often lead to different outcomes in the story. Be wary of examining items you feel are critical to James' life. 2. You can reload a gun inside the inventory screen and it allows you to avoid a sometimes lengthy reload animation while staring a monster in the face. 3. Monsters don't attack you as much when you have your flashlight off. 4. Often if you hit or shoot and enemy 3-4 times they will fall to the ground. If you then come away from your attack stance and press the confirmation button (X typically) on their body James' will do a stomp that will almost always finish them off. 5. Use your pistol! They give you hundreds of pistol ammo. Use it for enemies you can't take down without getting hit since healing items are much less prevalent. Save your shotgun and rifle ammo though for bosses.
Also, forgot to mention. You can change the controls to 2D if you want to swicth to normal controls rather than tank controls. In many ways the game is made around tank controls, but if it helps you play the game then switch it.
Best horror game of all-time and one of my favorite games ever period. I really hope you enjoy the game, Cry. Be patient, explore everything, and get lost in the beautiful, macabre story. :D
I could be mistaken, but I think the awkward camera angles and frustrating controls, and even the stiff voice acting is deliberate. This game is supposed to represent and explore a lot of dark and uncomfortable things, and many small things are meant to give you those psychological spooks. Could be wrong, of course, but it sure as hell does the job of making you feel that way either way B)
Well, the more I listen to it the more it sounds like it's done by professional actors who are trying to make every line strained, over exaggerated with uncomfortable emotion, but it *works*. Just listen to the entire dialogue at 10:34, everything is over the top and unrealistic, but it sounds so deliberate. The woman (forgot her name, ahh) speaks the way someone sounds when they're trying to hold back an anxiety attack and feign happiness - it's full of this uncomfortable tension and emotion that really shouldn't be there. And in contrast, we have James who sounds like he's just woken up, monotone and hopeless but still taken aback by her instability. We usually consider "good acting" as being as realistic as possible, the display of emotions in tune with the situation, dragging us into the scene. But Silent Hill 2, being the mystery and the genius of a game that it is, twists this around, does the exact opposite, and by doing that brings the frigging VOICE ACTING into its entire psychological/philosophical theme. That's why it continues to surprise us, why it's still considered one of the best horror games of all time. So yeah, hah. Depending on your point of view, the voice acting is on point.
I know this was a month ago, but there is a reason the voice acting is so uncomfortably bad... the game designers wanted it that way. They hired amateur voice actors to do the voicing because they wanted the voice acting to sound off and *make* the player feel uncomfortable.
@@salazar556 part of the reason silent hill is so horrifying, it's genius when it comes to the thick tension it puts the player in and the off putting vibes you get when playing it. The way team silent created these games is carefully detailed and clever. (well the first four anyway...)

Well holy goddamn shit, it's finally happening. Cry, I have been hoping you would play this for, christ, like when I first subscribed which was back when you first played Cry of Fear. Thank you for finally getting the energy to play this classic, I truly hope you enjoy it despite some mechanics that may irk you. Please, if there was any game that I could ask you to stick with it would be this one as some of the themes and story elements are so powerful many games STILL have yet to be able to tackle them like SH2 has. And to anyone who hasn't played this game please, as much as I love Cry's videos, stop watching and go play this for yourself. This is one of the few games that watching someone play just isn't the same, and so much of the unnerving feel or disturbing imagery is lost without firsthand experience. Please, if you have ANY remote interest in one of the best survival horror games ever made or one of the most well crafted stories ever put into a video game go and play it for yourself. It can be found on the PS2, Xbox, PC, and even emulation if you're really desperate. The controls are a little odd to get used to and it can be terrifying, but it's something you have to experience for yourself if you can. If you can't or have already played it then this ought to be an amazing ride with Cry. It's going to be dark, frustrating, disgusting, unnerving, depressing, and if certain criteria are met for certain endings one of the saddest stories you'll see. But it's going to be amazing.

Ya know Silent Hill 2 will forever remain as one of my most favorite games of all time and one of the best games of all time. The reason why, is because it's not just a horror game, it has a very dark and depressing meaning behind it that's so true. It shows us the corruption and greed in people. It shows the corruption in society and everyone around us. And it shows us that you can't erase the past, that no matter how much you try to forget or try to lie to yourself, you can't forget what's happened, or what you've done. It shows that depression can lead to madness and have you try to brainwash yourself to comfort yourself and try to forget. That's why Silent Hill 2 is amazing.

I find that it works with James because he is chronically depressed due to the loss of his wife. When it comes to depression, you actively lose your minds reasoning of self preservation. In fact, your brain will urge you to do dangerous things in an effort to make you feel more in control. The line where he says "I guess I don't care if it's dangerous, I'm still going into town." always read to me as 'I don't really much care what happens to me anyhow'.
I messaged you months ago suggesting Silent Hill 2 so I’m very glad to see that you’ve started playing! Thank you Cry! Some spoiler free tips: 1. Use L2 to move the camera behind James. There will be a lot of times where the camera will automatically turn itself to be in front of him but you can move it back if you want. I find it easier to fight with the camera behind me. 2. If you turn off your flashlight, it’s a little harder for enemies to detect you. Use this to sneak past them when you need to. 3. You can only see your map with your flashlight on, unless you’re in an area with light. 4. Sometimes running away is the best solution rather than fighting. The combat can be clunky but it’s intentional. Your patience will be challenged. 5. James cannot block enemy attacks but the L1 and R1 buttons make him side step/run. This is really needed for boss fights. 6. If you press L1 and R1 together at the same time, James will do a quick 180 degree turn. This is really helpful for when you’re trying to avoid enemies. It also makes exploration easier. 7. If you don’t know where to go, exploring will help you figure it out. 8. If you explore while you’re running around the town, you will be rewarded with health and ammo. Explore places you wouldn’t normally go to in a game. 9. Try to use melee weapons as much as possible. You’ll eventually encounter bigger monsters that have to be killed with a gun. Some bosses take up a lot of ammo to kill as well. 10. If you’re having a lot of trouble with some boss fights, try changing your view control from “normal” to “switch”. You can do this by pressing R1 on your options menu. Good luck!

if u aren't new then why didn't u know that it has many endings ? cause Every silent hill game has at least 4 endings dependings on the actions while playing each ending or act on each diffiucltty will give a new costume or a weapon and if course only one ending is canon

I'm down for that. It's a fantastic game that really shows why horror is so poorly done these days. Compare SH2 to stuff like Resident Evil 6, Slender, or even the more modern Silent Hills like Downpour and you can see why the horror genre is so shit these days.

I've read about the game, I've watched the game several times. Never had the opportunity to play it unfortunately, but I know the game. I even have the foresight to critique the things I love, because even though I love them, I know they aren't perfect. Of all the youtubers that I've watched, I always come back to Cry for this kind of game, Even The Walking Dead, Until Dawn, all that kinda genre,man. I don't know why, Cry is like the perfect gamer who everything that he does makes the game even better, and he noticed every single details (not every but mostly 😂) and just 80% would choose the same options I would. Glad you are doing this cry this is my all time favorite game.
But if i am allowed to give you 2 hints keep reading:
1. Fleeing is a valid option just like in Xenoblade Chronicles. Most enemies can be ignored. And
2. You will notice that sometimes James will look to his left/right that means that there is something. Could be Ammo/Medi kits/Items or enemies. That will help you find some stuff.
But yeah i hope you'll enjoy this game as much as i do i know for sure that i'll have a blast watching you going through this hell hole
Many people probably already know this, but I'll throw some tips out too:
1. Examining items in your inventory can often lead to different outcomes in the story. Be wary of examining items you feel are critical to James' life.
2. You can reload a gun inside the inventory screen and it allows you to avoid a sometimes lengthy reload animation while staring a monster in the face.
3. Monsters don't attack you as much when you have your flashlight off.
4. Often if you hit or shoot and enemy 3-4 times they will fall to the ground. If you then come away from your attack stance and press the confirmation button (X typically) on their body James' will do a stomp that will almost always finish them off.
5. Use your pistol! They give you hundreds of pistol ammo. Use it for enemies you can't take down without getting hit since healing items are much less prevalent. Save your shotgun and rifle ammo though for bosses.
Also, forgot to mention. You can change the controls to 2D if you want to swicth to normal controls rather than tank controls. In many ways the game is made around tank controls, but if it helps you play the game then switch it.
If I didn't know cry's voice, then I'd think he was a video game character.
Best horror game of all-time and one of my favorite games ever period. I really hope you enjoy the game, Cry. Be patient, explore everything, and get lost in the beautiful, macabre story. :D

I could be mistaken, but I think the awkward camera angles and frustrating controls, and even the stiff voice acting is deliberate. This game is supposed to represent and explore a lot of dark and uncomfortable things, and many small things are meant to give you those psychological spooks. Could be wrong, of course, but it sure as hell does the job of making you feel that way either way B)
Well, the more I listen to it the more it sounds like it's done by professional actors who are trying to make every line strained, over exaggerated with uncomfortable emotion, but it *works*. Just listen to the entire dialogue at 10:34, everything is over the top and unrealistic, but it sounds so deliberate. The woman (forgot her name, ahh) speaks the way someone sounds when they're trying to hold back an anxiety attack and feign happiness - it's full of this uncomfortable tension and emotion that really shouldn't be there. And in contrast, we have James who sounds like he's just woken up, monotone and hopeless but still taken aback by her instability. We usually consider "good acting" as being as realistic as possible, the display of emotions in tune with the situation, dragging us into the scene. But Silent Hill 2, being the mystery and the genius of a game that it is, twists this around, does the exact opposite, and by doing that brings the frigging VOICE ACTING into its entire psychological/philosophical theme. That's why it continues to surprise us, why it's still considered one of the best horror games of all time. So yeah, hah. Depending on your point of view, the voice acting is on point.

I know this was a month ago, but there is a reason the voice acting is so uncomfortably bad... the game designers wanted it that way. They hired amateur voice actors to do the voicing because they wanted the voice acting to sound off and *make* the player feel uncomfortable.
That's kind of genius, actually.

Well holy goddamn shit, it's finally happening. Cry, I have been hoping you would play this for, christ, like when I first subscribed which was back when you first played Cry of Fear. Thank you for finally getting the energy to play this classic, I truly hope you enjoy it despite some mechanics that may irk you. Please, if there was any game that I could ask you to stick with it would be this one as some of the themes and story elements are so powerful many games STILL have yet to be able to tackle them like SH2 has.
And to anyone who hasn't played this game please, as much as I love Cry's videos, stop watching and go play this for yourself. This is one of the few games that watching someone play just isn't the same, and so much of the unnerving feel or disturbing imagery is lost without firsthand experience. Please, if you have ANY remote interest in one of the best survival horror games ever made or one of the most well crafted stories ever put into a video game go and play it for yourself. It can be found on the PS2, Xbox, PC, and even emulation if you're really desperate. The controls are a little odd to get used to and it can be terrifying, but it's something you have to experience for yourself if you can.
If you can't or have already played it then this ought to be an amazing ride with Cry. It's going to be dark, frustrating, disgusting, unnerving, depressing, and if certain criteria are met for certain endings one of the saddest stories you'll see. But it's going to be amazing.

Ya know Silent Hill 2 will forever remain as one of my most favorite games of all time and one of the best games of all time. The reason why, is because it's not just a horror game, it has a very dark and depressing meaning behind it that's so true. It shows us the corruption and greed in people. It shows the corruption in society and everyone around us. And it shows us that you can't erase the past, that no matter how much you try to forget or try to lie to yourself, you can't forget what's happened, or what you've done. It shows that depression can lead to madness and have you try to brainwash yourself to comfort yourself and try to forget. That's why Silent Hill 2 is amazing.
I just CANNOT wait to hear your reactions to this game. It's gonna be great! =D

Yeah, it was like that. Anyway you can enable the original voice in remastered version so the voices are not the best version indicator.
I find that it works with James because he is chronically depressed due to the loss of his wife. When it comes to depression, you actively lose your minds reasoning of self preservation. In fact, your brain will urge you to do dangerous things in an effort to make you feel more in control. The line where he says "I guess I don't care if it's dangerous, I'm still going into town." always read to me as 'I don't really much care what happens to me anyhow'.

I messaged you months ago suggesting Silent Hill 2 so I’m very glad to see that you’ve started playing! Thank you Cry!
Some spoiler free tips:
1. Use L2 to move the camera behind James. There will be a lot of times where the camera will automatically turn itself to be in front of him but you can move it back if you want. I find it easier to fight with the camera behind me.
2. If you turn off your flashlight, it’s a little harder for enemies to detect you. Use this to sneak past them when you need to.
3. You can only see your map with your flashlight on, unless you’re in an area with light.
4. Sometimes running away is the best solution rather than fighting. The combat can be clunky but it’s intentional. Your patience will be challenged.
5. James cannot block enemy attacks but the L1 and R1 buttons make him side step/run. This is really needed for boss fights.
6. If you press L1 and R1 together at the same time, James will do a quick 180 degree turn. This is really helpful for when you’re trying to avoid enemies. It also makes exploration easier.
7. If you don’t know where to go, exploring will help you figure it out.
8. If you explore while you’re running around the town, you will be rewarded with health and ammo. Explore places you wouldn’t normally go to in a game.
9. Try to use melee weapons as much as possible. You’ll eventually encounter bigger monsters that have to be killed with a gun. Some bosses take up a lot of ammo to kill as well.
10. If you’re having a lot of trouble with some boss fights, try changing your view control from “normal” to “switch”. You can do this by pressing R1 on your options menu.

It's been a long time since I've seen you this creeped out, Cry. You're always calm and logical in most horror games. It's quite a breath of fresh (foggy) air!
This is nice. I had Watched PewDiePie play the first Silent Hill and now I get to watch Cry play the second one^^. I Also can't wait for the new one to come out. I love Silent Hill:)
super sad there's no full playthrough of the first game from cry. i refuse to watch it from anyone else so I'm just super confused the whole time lol. cry's playthroughs r always the best though

I remember playing this in our apartment early 2000's with our room mate. The ambience freaked me the heck out with those noises. A great psycological game. My heart still skips a beat at some of these creatures and story line after all these years! Glad u got to expierience it.

Its been killing me ever since u started the series if i wanted to play the game or watch u play it mostly because the times I have played it were honestly 3 things: freaky difficult and mind killing with difficult puzzles but now I've been looking for a good series to watch on your channel and now I am watching.
But no joke the time I played it I couldn't even get past the first hotel so yeah. And you have the funniest commentary I have ever heard on RUclips
