As you have mentioned before....when we pray asking that God's will be done it is also so important that we learn to live our lives that are aligned to his will. May my will be like that of Yours. If looking for grey areas.... we are only lying to ourselves. 🙏
"Does this glorify God?" Sometimes asking the question is more important than getting an answer. Thank you for this! These videos help me not to lose my way.
Asking questions in your example is like asking, "How slippery of a slope is this" and when they go to a bar, they often find the slope is too slippery and they sin. I believe you're right about asking the better question. It's been said that the quality of your questions determines the quality of your life. Well said, Brother Matt! God bless you friend! 😇🙏👍
I like asking the question, "As a child of God who has been adopted into His family, is this something I should be doing, or something my Heavenly Father would be proud of?" Which I feel is the same as the question you ask here, "does this glorify God?" :) All I want is for Him to be known in all I do!! Thanks for the great video Matt! 💫
AMEN! I've learned to ask myself: "what are your motives?" I can do the "right thing" with a wrong motive - seeking the approval of men, haughty and with pride, begrudgingly - the list goes on... Only when I do the right thing with the right motive will I bring Glory to His Holy Name.
When thinking of these issues, the following verses from Scripture seem like they are perhaps the most relevant ones: "[20] Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: [21] For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags." Proverbs 23:20-21
Well at 67 and health conscious I don’t drink or smoke never had a problem. No desire. When I was young I found out throwing up, and losing valuable time told me all I needed to know about drinking alcohol. I toyed with tobacco but as an asthmatic that wasn’t a problem. Though I could chew while studying to stay awake, gave it up due to the risk of oral and throat cancer. I know what is sinful the spirit and scripture tells us these things.
Great message Matt… if it doesn’t glorify God we shouldn’t partake in it. Thank you for sharing this, I know it will be a benefit to many. God bless you 🙏🕊️
This is correct. Amen! When you’re not sure, pray on it. The Lord delights when we come to Him with our questions and problems. Pray for strengthening of the Holy Spirit. Then, you will be better at discerning right from wrong. Glorifying God vs something being on the cusp of sin.
Excellent point and advice. Replace the question completely, strike it from your vocabulary: "Is this a sin" and replace it with "Does this glorify God?". This changes the entire perspective on the thing in question.

Of course, young people want to have "fun." Unfortunately, the world (through its entertainment) has made it seem that sin is where the fun is, and because of this, young Christians are made to feel like they will miss out on having real fun. Because of this, it is no wonder that young people feel like they want to get as close to sin as they are allowed to get. Another problem is that kids would rather watch TV any day than read the Bible (or anything at all, for that matter), and TV is one of the ways the world gets a foothold into a child's heart. What's the solution?
I will say that it’s wise to look at the motives behind certain activities and though things like going to a bar are not sinful, the issue comes if you can’t control your behavior then that just leads to sin and you shouldn’t be engaging in it. I would also add masturbation, the activity itself isn’t sinful but what are the motives behind it? Can you do it without lusting? Some people truly can, they just do it for the sensation, others can’t do it unless they are lusting so in that case they shouldn’t do it. There’s a balance between legalism and true avoidance of sin and ether way is extreme. I would honestly say take every issue to the Lord and test it with scripture and prayer, be humble and open ask God for wisdom and discernment and let God guide you in the right direction. 😊
That's why it's important to STUDY the Bible much! And through the knowledge, by His grace, GROW in wisdom; So that one does WALK in the Spirit and not in the flesh.
