My 1941 accessory book lists the under seat heater (for an outlandish $17), so I know they were offered at least that far back. They offered 3 models of heaters, from $11.50 to $17, which was actually a pretty good idea, allowing you to tailor the expense to the climate you lived in. I do find it interesting, however, that even the defroster was a $7.25 accessory. I guess wiping with an old rag was the zero cost option.

That was the same model that brought me home from the hospital in 1955

I’m new to vintage Chevys. Your videos are a great assistance with my 1940 Chevy. Just added a NOS top bracket to battery tray. I don’t like the minimal clearance to positive post/starter cable terminal. I see you have same minimal clearance. Wondering if the original had a different cable terminal (flag terminal perhaps) or different battery post location.

Interesting under seat heater. My 52 Chevy was toasty just with the regular cabin heater!

I love those Jam Handy videos.
Where would they have been shown?
    A movie theater?
    A car dealership?

I believe that unlike the 42-47 radiator the 1948 radiator inlet was changed so that it would accept a pressure cap.

Great video! I have a 1951 Chevy 3800 Truck. The radiator leaks at the top and I am replacing it with a new one. Should I go and replace the water pump also while I'm at it? (I'm not sure if it leaks, guessing not). What else should I replace? Money is no expense.

I'm a champion of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" But it really depends on if the truck has been sitting around for years or if it's been driven up until now. I would certainly do radiator hoses and perhaps heater hoses if they are dry, hard, cracked, anything like that. You could throw in a thermostat but I bet you the old one is still working. The water pump, again if it's been sitting around for years then it would probably be a good idea. If it was mine I would try it and fix it when and if I had a problem. But I probably shouldn't give out advice like that. Oh and if it was the original Harrison radiator, new aluminum ones look shiny, but original copper ones cooled better. It may be worth your time to have it checked and repaired.

I live in Miami, what thermostat should I use to keep the engine cool? As you probably know is summer here all year round. Thank you

While I have no experience at all with Florida weather I would still go with a 180* thermostat. Your cooling system, if working properly, should keep the engine at approximately the same temp. regardless of the ambient temp. Obviously there will be a difference but not much. As long as your gauge is around 200 or a few degrees above you will be good to go.

@@TheJayhawker thank you. My gauge is always in the middle over the center dot. Is that 200

@@WilliamLeonard Are you working with a '48 Chevy as well? If so 180 is the center dot.

Hello. My name is Elton Lenhart. First I would like to congratulate you for your videos. Second, ask him if he can help me with an indication of online stores specialized in parts for the Stylemaster 48. I am Brazilian, and unfortunately here we have few spare parts for this model. I'm doing a complete restoration of all the mechanics, suspension, engine and gearbox. Anyway, a lot of work... For now, thank you for your attention.

Hello, thanks for the kind words and for watching. The two best parts sources here in the states are chevsofthe40s.com and fillingstation.com. In addition to that I find ebay.com extremely valuable for a lot parts that you can't find anywhere else. I also am often surprised and surprise my local parts store owners when I ask them if they can get certain things. I realize that may not be the case in Brazil, but you never know.

If like my ‘48 Cadillac that heater accessory is not for roasting your front passengers buns but to provide floor heating for your rear passengers. Anyone tackle driving the dash temp gauge correctly? Despite installing equivalent temp sender p/n, i’m not getting an “accurate” (relatively speaking) gauge reading inside the car.

Great video! I have enjoyed watching your work on the 48. It is similar to my 36 pickup I'm restoring, so I appreciate the quality of videos and explanation. You can check out my progress on my truck and give any tips or comments, it would be appreciated.
