    Hey, thanks for the shout out! Great video, covering my favorite Light Mech. (This will shock some, the Urbanmech is actually my second favorite, mostly because of it's specialized application, whereas the Mongoose fit's into every unit I can).
    As a side note the "Canon Cockpit Canopy Painting Guide" is a free, public post on my Patreon. It's pinned to the top, so everyone who is interested can have access, at no charge.
    See you all dirtside, chummers!

    The Mongoose is a near perfect light mech in my opinion: It's fast, surprisingly well armed, decently armoured with specialist electronics, if you can stand the lack of jump jets. The only common light role it doesn't do well is "anti-infantry", since can't commit war crimes due to it's lack of machine guns, flamers or Inferno capable missile racks. The Succession Wars downgrade actually does a decent job of maintaining it's performance, and is probably the best of the downgrades.
    Also, it's Always good to credit the artists.

    • @djbrouwer7712
      @djbrouwer7712 2 года назад +1

      To be fair, there is a mon-70 variant that mounts a couple of flamers, but that's only really helpful if you are expecting the infantry.

      Medium pulse lasers are only marginally effective against infantry.
      Only small / mirco pulse lasers do burst damage against infantry, medium pulse lasers do not.
      For this reason it was NOT clear that you were referring to medium pulse lasers.
      In terms of tonnage it is also difficult to mount multiple 2 ton medium pulse lasers on a 25 ton mech that carriers only 3.5 tons of weapons.

    I absolutely adore this mech! Superior armor and firepower over the Locust, as well as hands for grabbing objectives or downed pilots, while keeping the same speed. Even though it's expensive and relatively rare compared to the Locust, it's well worth it. Like the video suggests, it's an excellent choice for a Recon lance commander. Plus, the new Catalyst sculpt looks amazing!
    In a game a couple of years ago, I had to recover a VIP from a helicopter crash before my opponent could get to him. My Mongoose pilot won the scenario almost single-handedly by reaching the crash site by turn 2, put the hurt on my opponents' Locust with lasers and a well placed kick that crippled his hip, and then rushed away, avoiding enemy indirect fire and getting back to my deployment zone before the end of turn 5. This solidified my opinion of the Mongoose.

  • @Chris_Sizemore
    @Chris_Sizemore 2 года назад +11

    Out of the succession era variants, I particularly like the 68. It drops all the weapons and downgrades the engine to 7/11 movement speed. In return, it mounts a large laser as its only weapon. This doesn't turn the Mongoose into a sniper. What it does is it makes it a very elusive harasser. Now it can afford to constantly run and try to keep opponents to its long and medium range while avoiding the majority of close ranged weapons that light mechs usually are armed with. The superior range brackets will give it an edge against other fast mechs. The few light mechs with LRM capabilities should be priority targets for the 68. Honestly all of the Mongoose variants would have a problem with LRM support, and the longer range helps the 68 deal with it.

    Great light Mech right there. It is just so powerful for what it is. Being energy based is also handy for long haul scouting missions.

  • @franksmedley7372
    @franksmedley7372 2 года назад +4

    Hello Red.
    Like the Locust, I have also 'played around' with the Mongoose.
    My variant removes the Bloodhound Probe and replaces it with the Angel ECM Suite. I also add TSM to the Mech as well.
    This variant is meant to enter combat side by side with a standard MON-96 Mongoose (which I also add TSM to). The two, together, can detect just about any stealthed or hidden units, and disrupt their ECM -ECCM systems in a fair sized radius around themselves. This, in turn, allows most of the units traveling with them a clear shot at hidden and stealthed units nearby.
    The reason for the TSM is obvious. After they, and their compatriots fire their weapons, the Mongoose Mechs, if close enough to their targets, can kick the Enemy unit. Which, in most cases, removes at least a Leg, and often an entire torso. Disabling, or 'Combat Killing' the Enemy.
    Not too shabby, for a 25 ton Mech, if I do say so myself. Against other Light Mechs, this combination can prove to be quite lethal. A total of 6 ER Medium Lasers, and a pair of ER Small Lasers, plus one to two kicks, and the Light is usually toast.
    The Superchargers allow a boosted 'walk' of 18 hexes (194.4 KPH, or: 120.8 MPH). The TSM grants another hex of movement (10.8 KPH - 6.7 MPH) to the overall speed of the Mech, as well as doubling physical attack damage (2.5, rounded down to 2 points per punch. And 2.5 x 2 = 5 points per kick), from 5 points per kick, up to 10 per kick from each Mongoose.
    Given the average Light Mech's armoring and Internal Structures, a pair of such kicks is often lethal. Using both the Supercharger and TSM, a Mongoose can 'walk' up to 19 hexes distance. This can generate up to a +6 against being hit, while still a 'walk' movement, and thus only a +1 difficulty 'to hit' its target.
    Two such Mechs, working in unison, have a 'damage potential' (total possible weapons damage) of 36 damage, before adding a potential 20 points of kicking damage. A damage potential of 56 points total is usually more than enough to 'combat kill' any Light Mech, and even some lighter Medium Mechs.
    And people wonder why I love Light Mechs... Sheeze. Isn't it obvious?

    The Mongoose is probably the best 25 ton IS mech design of the classical and sucession wars era. It is a rare case of a mech from the technical readouts that can´t be improved.
    It is also IMO the lightest mech available that has a reasonable combat value beyond being a spotter or initiative sink.
    The only light mech more combat capable is the heavier Jenner 7F.

    Nice mech but I'm a fan of the Firefly with its long Range lrm 5 hitting power for a light, all energy lights tend to get hot fast.
    But the Mongoose has good armor for its size and a BAP.
    I am just not into the middle ranges it needs to do damage. But against tanks and light vehicles and infantry you can't get much better than the Mongoose.

    So wait is the 96 using heavy ferro INSTEAD of the Endo steel or is it using both? That's a lot of crit slots espesicallt with XL on top and the bloodhound is 2ish.

    • @44R0Ndin
      @44R0Ndin 2 года назад +2

      It's.... pretty much suffocating in all those relocatable crit slots it needs for endo and heavy ferro, and then the XL to top it all off.
      No wonder the weapons loadout is so light, there's just no room for any more, even if it had 100 tons to spare.
