WELCOME TO WEEK 5!
Finally seeing a more bulk-hatch type behavior in the bin today. Wisps of all sizes found throughout the bin and all appears to be going quite well.
I was surprised at the mold when we opened the bin today, but surprises happen and as I always like to mention, you gauge the health of your bin and decide how to handle problems by simply observing things such as this mold. No smells, no unusual amounts of bugs and worms seem healthy-for me this simply means a healthy bin and nothing to worry about right now. I will keep an eye on it though.
We put the first official feeding into the bin today and I am excited to see if the new wisps will recast and move into the fresh food.
We wrapped up today talking about some misconceptions regarding pH. These are some things that I had wrong for a long time as well... good information to have since most of us are under the assumption that acidic is what usually kills a bin. BASIC is much more dangerous. Did you know this?
