    One justification I've heard for not going completely waterproof on the Gorka is to provide the option for durable but more breathable canvas by default, but easy wax or waterproofing impregnation if you want full waterproofing

    • @Feldmutze
      @Feldmutze  Год назад +2

      I hadn't heard that about the waterproofing before, but that would make sense and does strike a pretty good balance.

      @@Feldmutze Just recently bought 2 Palasch Palatkas that have similar canvas and used a beeswax waterproofing on one and coconut oil on the other. Tested both under the fosset and the beeswax is probably the better one. Smells good too as a bonus.

    I love my Gorkas. They're great lvl 5 layers for hunting or training. Though I like the models with a strap holding them in the boot for summer, the SSO/SPOSN models with built-in gaiters are really good paired with my gore-tex boots in autumn, winter. It's not waterproof, but a lvl 5 isn't supposed to be

    I rock my Gorka 3 jacket with the fleece lining daily during the cold seasons. Love my gorka

      Nice, I usually wear my unlined Gorka jacket as an everyday jacket in the fall months. The lined version seems like it would work quite well as an everyday cold weather jacket.

    Thanks for the video. It's nice to see someone who has had a piece of equipment for over half a decade, is willing to criticize it, and still use it. Also: Does $200 seem like a reasonable price for a gorka suit to you? i'm interested in buying one, but am kind of poor.

    • @Feldmutze
      @Feldmutze  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching! I wouldn't be surprised if the Gorka went up in price so $200 sounds reasonable given the situation now. When I got mine I believe it was ~$120-150, so factoring in the difficulty in getting things from Russia and $200 doesn't sound too bad.

      @@Feldmutze Thanks for the input. Also: I saw your wet weather gear consideration video, and I thought it was really good that you went out and did some training when it was raining. I think it's something more people should do where you just look outside and are like "HORRIBLE WEATHER CONDITIONS??? YEEE HAWWWWW TIME TO TRAIN!"

    This makes me want to go check IR glowing on my SSO and Camo patterned Bars ones, because if the polyester camo cloth is IR compliant, that would solve the NV issue

    • @Feldmutze
      @Feldmutze  Год назад +2

      I'd be very interested to hear if they have the issue, if you do happen to test the camouflaged Gorkas in IR. I'd heard other people mention most Gorkas have issues, but I'm not sure if they tested the camo ones, and I only have experience with the one I have.

      I've had two Bars gorkas, one is a Fleece lined version labeled Arctic Leopard. Supposedly it's their commercial line but that one is not IR reflective. I also had a greenish gorka 4 that is just regular Bars. That one is pretty bad under IR. I found that interesting that the commercial version seems to use updated materials and that's the gorka I kept.

    Not sure if this is by design or just "we don't care because we are russian - fuck you" .. but the IR signature of the Gorka as you say is pretty bad when it comes to the reinforcement parts which are polyester afaik. Having used my PVS14 out during spring/summer one realizes that chlorofyll causes all green leaves reflecting quite a lot aswell.
    Same goes with snow i guess, having a very reflective polyester overwhite snowblouse is awesome and having something as non-reflective as my UF-Pro or Crye pants is a dead giveaway...
    One trick i have heard about is to rub dirt on those parts so as to "naturalize" them.... Cheers and thanks for good content,

    I have come to believe that MORDODR TAC products are superlative to any other brands of similar items. One simple example of MORDOR TAC's Gorka is the use of Canadian buttons. This alone qualifies MORDOR TAC as the better product. Simply put I totally disagree with your decision to single out and denigrate MORDOR TAC products.

    • @Feldmutze
      @Feldmutze  Год назад +2

      That's good they use Canadian buttons, and if Mordor Tac's Gorka is working well for you then that's good, though I really doubt they're superlative to other makers.
      I don't have personal experience with Mordor Tac's Gorkas but I've owned some of their smaller gear such as pouches and my experience has been that their build quality is inferior, and everyone I've talked to and review I've read on the Mordor Tac Gorka runs counter to what you've said, and tends to agree that the stitching isn't as well done as the BARS/SSO equivalents.

      @@Feldmutze So, you base your denigrating of product not on usage of and experience with said product but on hearsay ? I'm curious as to the sample size of those MORDOR TAC gorka users you cite.
      Disinformation has become the norm as the Internet has grown. When someone makes an Internet comment based on hearsay I put that comment in the same category as statements by politicians/.gov employees. That is, do the opposite of what they say and/or do.
      Your videos are very interesting. I would ask you to refrain from denigrating whatever based on hearsay. I will ask you to be specific when claiming a manufacturer's products are all bad when the hearsay you rely on was critiquing MORDOR TAC pouches not gorkas.

    • @Feldmutze
      @Feldmutze  Год назад +1

      That's a good point, I should've mentioned in the video that I didn't have personal experience with the Mordor Tac Gorka. You misread what I wrote, I DID own their pouches, and it's perfectly valid to extrapolate my own experience with other products created by the same brand (i.e. their Gorka suit), especially when it matches my own findings with their other products. To continually buy products from a brand that you've already had poor or mediocre experience with and expecting anything different is actual insanity lol.
      Since your own experience with Mordor Tac is so different from so much of what I've heard and seen, why not make your own review on why it's so good? I'd be very interested to hear your in-depth experience with their Gorka. You've only stated the Mordor Tac Gorka has Canada buttons, and then went on to say everything else about them is definitely "just as good if not better", and that I'm just denigrating it, but you haven't said anything else about how the Mordor Tac Gorka actually is higher quality. What about the stitching quality on the seams (I've seen this complaint in particular quite a bit on their Gorkas)? How has the color held up? Does it also have IR remission issues? What types of environments are you using it in? etc.
