Amazing! I am enjoying Doom Fusion on the 32X it is amazing to see what the 32X CD could actually do in the right hands. I hope this opens up the door for more physical releases for the 32X and 32X CD. I know I and many other gamers would support this.
At first glance Psx looks superior mainly due colorured "light sources" and semi transparent sprites...BUT 32x ver seems to have more complex maps architecture.
@RGF The SEGA project Neptune (unrealised and unachieved) was a console fusion of genesis and 32X destined to cohabit with sega saturn, an alternative low cost to the 3d hardware. Sega was diverse strategy at this moment and that costed a lot of to the compagny, different vision of the market and really not prepare to the futur succes of the playstation. That's a shame. But the technology at this moment evoluated very speedly finally the 32X is depassed speedly and thats really not interested for developpers (at this moment) to work hard on an hardware already behind his era.
I still think Sega should have went with a tied system or "pillars" that Nintendo did. When Nintendo had the N64 they also had the GBA and the DS. They had 3 pillars and made games maximize the strengths of the hardware. If Sega did not have so much in fighting they could have had a 2 pillar system. One for the unique, large memory CD rom games like the Panzer Dragoon Series, Nights and Astal for the Saturn and the 32X could have been home to amazing 32 bit arcade ports like an arcade port of Super Monaco GP, Out Runners and Golden Axe the Revenge of Death Adder. They already proved the 32X hardware could do amazing ports like Space Harrier and After Burner II. To this day many 32 bit Sega games never made it to home consoles. The Saturn could have lived next to the 32X/Neptune which could still play Sega Genesis games and with Sega giving people a reason to have a 32X/Neptune they would have moved more units and with more units, games using the 32X/Neptune CD like Doom Fusion would have been viable. One could only dream. At least we have Doom Fusion now and I hope we get more like it from indie developers. I would not mind if they sold digital versions of their games one modern consoles and Steam to help make up money as long as they released a physical version for the 32X CD. Again, I would be up for that.
Great video and I want to see more comparisons to DOOM CD32X Fusion as I'm blown away by how close it appears in my mind to the original PC versions. I got it running on my own tower of power and I will try to set it up myself next to a 1994/95 PC at some point.
Great achivement! It's always interesting to see what can be done with hardware. Now I wonder how PS1 version could look like given time and dedicated team with modern knowledge of PS1 programming.
@@RGF my main problem with Doom 64 is lack of huge open levels like in Doom 2. Levels of Doom 64 are rather "compact". Maybe with engine like in Toy Story 2 on PS1 we could get same level of draw distances we get in some Doom levels. Or maybe devs could improve and optimise original Doom engine for PS1 to get more detalistion and framerate like in this new version of Doom on the Tower of Power.
We can go back and forth over which is more impressive, or which we prefer. What we learn from this is, the developers were rushed to get these games out and we got shittier versions of doom than we could've had.
Well, modern tools helped....but i have to agree, we only got fmv stuff from those add ons, not even sega released something for it.....I guess no business case, but the power was there!
Pulled my tower of power out of storage to try this out but my model 1 SegaCD won’t turn on 😢. Gotta crack her open now and fix her up so I can try this out finally 😂
I didn't read the instructions properly at first, so when I patched the files without renaming the .wads, Kega Fusion didn't open them. I reread the instructions, but after renaming the .wad files, the patching process fails. 🤷🏻♂
While this is cool for the "tower of power", all it really did for me was show just how much further PlayStation Doom could be pushed. I can only imagine. And, man, that atmosphere on the PlayStation version because of the Aubrey Hodges soundscape is just untouchable imo. The PlayStation controller is also kinda perfect for this game.
I think if the 32X came out in America and Europe and there was no Saturn in these regions I think the power would have shown to be more powerful (with all attachments) and could have saved sega
Well the 32x and saturn were released with only a few months difference, not smart by sega. But the 32x was more capable then his games are showing, just look at tomb raider running there....texture poligons mapped goodness 😳
In they time 32x could be great. A cheap extension for the already owned hardware for basic 3D gaming sounded like a good idea ... if only they release it some month earlier and the sega saturn some month later
This is amazing honestly!!! This easily beats the jag version, and that was the best version until the PSX came out!!!! Now lets fix the Saturn Version and 3DO!!!
OptiDoom renderer already improved the 3DO version a bit, and it runs even better on emulator. The developer of OptiDoom said that rewriting the engine code from scratch would improve the framerate even more, but it would be too complex.

The PS1 was an impressive port but it pales in comparison to Doom Fusion. The Saturn had a 4-meg cart with a CD when they released Street Fighter VS X-men. Seeing how CDs are really not that expensive to make I could have seen this sold at retail if games like Doom Fusion really put the hardware to good use.
