I loved this interview so much!!! Alicia is the reason I became a vegan 12 years ago. I was at a bookstore just looking for some books on cleaner, healthier eating I bought her book "The Kind Diet". I read the whole book in one sitting and decided to go vegan overnight and I have never looked back! One of the best decisions I have ever made!
The kind diet was the first book I had when I went vegan, 13 years ago!! It was my bible! I still pull it out, every now and then, and even have certain recipes memorized.💜 I especially love the peach crumble, rustic pasta and date, apple cinnamon oatmeal! I can’t wait to check out the podcast! Thank you both, for your honesty, hard work and dedication. I feel so inspired.💕
Dear Ellen, I’m an Italian psychologist and loving mama of two amazing boys, I deeply believe in conscious, positive parenting and, as always (I’m a long time subscriber on your channel too) I’ve loved this podcast, finding it truly inspiring and full of joy. I hope I’ll be able to express myself at my best (as English is not my first language) but there’s only one thing Alicia said that I think could be triggering for someone.. “Never” (as “always”) it’s a dangerous word, and we should be all really aware using it… I’m sure Alicia has a natural kind attitude and probably she truly never raises her voice or loose patience, but the reality for the majority of parents it’s really different. We all experienced tiredness, irritability, even anger, and there are times when we “messed up” with our kids as you fairly said about yourself during the podcast. Anger is an human feeling, and we should model how to managed it, not hiding it, otherwise kids would learn to hide it too, or, even worst, they may learn that have negative feelings it’s wrong and not normal. I just want to say that maybe positive parents are kind and patient most of the times, but no one should be blamed himself if it’s not perfect all the time. The important thing during hard times it’s to control our reaction, breathe, step back and, eventually, apologize to our kids. I hope I didn’t sound critical, it wasn’t my intention at all (I adore both you and Alicia) but as professional I’m aware that social media can fix unrealistic standard and sometimes make feel people inadequate. I just want to say to all the amazing parents out there that are reading that I’m sure they’re doing their best, even if they make mistakes ♥️Thank you so much for your work, your content it’s always inspiring and profound. Kisses from Italy 🇮🇹
Omg THIS!!! Thank you for this! Honestly this podcast made me feel like a terrible parent when deep down I know I'm not. I'm a homeschooling parent of 4 under 5, and I most certainly don't feed my kids these perfect foods ALL the time, I try my best to, but it just isn't practical. And what kind of perfect angel parent never has to discipline their kids??? Or never feels overwhelmed and yells at them??? I know she said she makes some mistakes at times and gave examples...those examples are not real life. I'm sorry. I love Ellen, but is this for real? Lol. I would also be interested in knowing her day-to-day living situation, how much she works, how much help she gets from friends and family, do you have a spouse, does your spouse work outside the home, do you have a personal chef, housecleaner, nanny? All these things contribute to a person's parenting styles, as well as their patience level. I really try to live by a lot of what they mentioned in this podcast, but honestly it sounded like a whole lot of perfection happening over here. Not real life. That's my two cents anyways.
And I would like to add the financial aspect to eating so clean. It's EXPENSIVE! Organic, clean food is EXPENSIVE! Most people can only afford so much. I buy mostly organic when I can, otherwise we buy what works for our budget.
@@jenevivelancia3012 I agree! And we have! Unfortunately nothing that could supplement what we eat as a family of 6. We have a very tiny space for a garden. Maybe one day we'll have some land! 🤗
@@cassandramarie8046 oh my goodness 6? I can understand that being difficult. Just the fact that you consciously try to feed them organic is more than 90% of moms. I think the world needs a grocery store chain that's just local produce. Like a co-op or a farm store but in chain store style.
I absolutely love how Alicia describes the health effects that happened to her as a result of her going vegan…. Health effects that she didn’t expect but happily welcomed! Everything that she described… her skin, hair, nails etc happened to me too. Now people get angry with me when I tell the reason how my hair is so thick and long. Lol. Thank you Ellen!!!

I love Alicia! I raised my son like a momma bear- he slept with me, went everywhere with me, etc I wanted to be vegan with him but we were dirt poor so we ate whatever we could afford together xoxo

Nothing about what I heard was "weird" or "wrong", it all came from a place of love and it all resonated with me.
Wonderful talk! I have to say though growing up in the 60s when McDonald’s came around and all of the processed foods there was talk about it being unhealthy and most of us really did know it was bad. I think what happened is when more women were entering the workplace all of a sudden that information became less apparent. You two are wonderful parents. Keep it up
I would love for Alicia to speak on the My Kind products in regards to the brand they are under being bought out by Nestle. Are they still as wholesome as when she created them? Is she still involved in the sources of ingredients?
The Continuum Concept was my bible in those early years of motherhood; I had natural births and raised my kids co-sleeping, breastfeeding on demand, baby wearing, attachment parenting. It made life as a mother sooo easy and made for very happy babies (they literally never cried). Coupled with the book Simplicity Parenting, I would recommend those two books on parenting to anyone and everyone. What an entertaining and interesting conversation, thank you so much, dear ladies. ❤
Ellen my story was similar to yours. I became vegan after reading “how not to die” by dr Michael Gregger for my own health! It never bothered me when other people ate animals around me, but recently the ethical side had become a part of my identity. And now I feel responsible for sharing this beautiful non violent way of living with others
Vegan parent here of two little girls both being raised vegan. Lots of topics in this podcast interest me. I became vegan 8 years ago and I find it interesting that Ellen also was motivated by the animals last. My first motivation was environmental issues, then health issues pushed me further, and then moral issues around violating the self ownership of animals became my final motivation. The moral issue came last for me. I've also had a lot more success with my friends and family demonstrating health reasons for eating plant based than moral reasons. I'm surprised when I find someone who started off with the moral position - it seems to be the most difficult reality to acknowledge for most people. It's much easier for people to acknowledge health/environmental motivations. I think the moral issue triggers defense mechanisms, people don't want to acknowledge they've been immoral/bad. That's a difficult thing for us to do. Anyways, raising vegan children is definitely possible and they really do thrive being raised on plant based foods. My daughters have exceptionally high energy and notably cognitively more developed than their peers. Just make sure they are getting omega 3s and enough calories. Most other things come naturally enough.
I always love when vegan parents brag about how much better developed their own kids are compared to everyone else. It's so obnoxious, and I guarantee, not true. Like, judging the cognitive level of kids who you barely interact with as a grown ass adult is just weird, and makes no sense, because how on earth would you even objectively evaluate that? Are you studying them at their home? Do you know what's going on with them? No, so for the love of god, mind your own business and stop trying to compare your kids to other kids.
Do you know what Ellen intakes for protein daily ? Or what her thoughts are on protein ? I bought her book bundle . Recipes are great , however there aren’t a lot of protein rich recipes. Makes me wonder
@@StrangeOccultist I personally am not too concerned about protein. I get 100 g of protein a day without trying and then sometimes take a protein shake on top of it because I work out. When it comes to my children I just make sure that beans and lentils are regular foods for them. There's a variety of ways to prepare them we usually make them in some kind of a stew that is thick so it's easy to eat. Our oldest daughter Rose loves straight cooked soybeans though and she will gobble them up by themselves. But most people get way more protein than they need. Humans need the least amount of protein amongst mammals as evident by the content of human breast milk. Plant milks and in particular soy milk has a large amount of protein in it as well. Though we usually use oat milk because it has higher calories and the silk brand is fortified with B12.
I wish I have friends like you. People around me think opposite. According to them, child needs to know who is the boss. Sometimes I feel alone because of this. Thanks God, my husband is supporting me. And thank you. Your videos are so supporting for me too.
I wish I was friends with you two. I feel we are totally aligned with our values and your honest conversation is so important and inspiring! Ellen your podcasts really help me on my health journey, thank you so much for keeping me motivated
OMG! I thought about you and Alicia having a podcast conversation since the youtube video where you and your family visited her and her son! You are both so inspiring!
I also did ec with both of my kids and I recommend in 100%!!! My son was ~6 months when he stopped pooping in his diaper. Peeing was different but it was so nice to not have to deal with poopy diapers.
Imagine your an 11 year old boy and your mother goes on a national forum and tells the world about your potty training, that you still sleep with her, and she prechewed your food. I hope you wouldn’t do that to your kids… It’s Clueless.
Amazing !!! Alicia you bring back memories of my childhood ....clueless was my favourite movie ... I had all the shirts that said “as if ““whatever “ Best takeaway was TRY to be vegan and that I can do 🙌💕thank you Ellen for always having great informative conversations ❤️❤️❤️
I loved all of this so much!! I didnt realise she made the my kind vitamins. I use them, love them, and recommend them to my clients because they are whole foods based. Thank you so much for making them! Another beautiful podcast. Thank you Ellen!
Love you two together! Alicia you have been such an inspiration to me as a vegan and a mother. I am the only vegan in my family. We recently lost our home and was living out of our car until family took us in until we could get back on our feet. Being on the road was hard I missed my home cooked vegan meals and taking care of my body but I didn’t worry about it I did what I had to do to take care of my children and still managed to stay plant based even if it was Taco Bell 🤣… We also had to give up our dogs for adoption because no one would foster them while being homeless but they went to a beautiful family. Being a kind mama is something I strive for everyday. You have been my motivation to stay vegan and stay kind not only for my children but for myself. My children aren’t vegan but I am never going to give up trying but they do love your kids multivitamin gummies. Thank you for all that you do! I love you!
I love the kind diet between your channel and alicias book I've transformed how I look at the world and food thank you for being so genuine and a great person
I also want to add my 2 year old loves to climb on my tv stand. My dad yells at him to get down and it doesn’t work he stays up there. When I or my mom calmly says to him “honey please come down off the tv stand” he gets down and runs off to play with his toys. In times of stress, I’ve gotten upset with him but I try to avoid that as much as I can. Children listen more when you speak to them properly as opposed to yelling at them.
Hi Ellen, I usually listen to your podcast via Apple, but I had to stop by and tell you how much I love your podcast! Especially this episode was beautiful. I think you are a very knowledgeable person that I can learn from. RUclips needs more creators like you in my opinion. Dear wishes from Germany
If we didn't already know this about Alicia, you can tell she's been vegan a long time bc there's something about most long time vegans who get it when it comes to talking about or not talking about veganism.
I was a vegan, but it didn’t work for my body. When I started eating more meat, my body started responding in positive ways. BUT, I truly believe that we all have different genetic makeup, and what works for one person, may not be the best for others.
How long? The body goes through a massive detox when vegan that for some could take a few years. If not that it could of been the lectins. Research Dr. Gundry's diet.
I feel like it honesty depends on what “vegan foods you are eating”. Vegan processed foods are terrible. If you can’t stomach killing an animal with your bare hands skin it, cut it, clean it, & remove its organs/fur/bones you should not be eating meat. If you depending on a 3rd party supplier to meat you contributing to the problem.
@@aquariusmoon3333 Agreed, however , does anyone know what Ellen thinks of protein ? I just bought her e book package (3) and they’re great except idk about the protein ? I felt horrible after becoming vegetarian because I didn’t eat a lot of protein so I do now. Idk just curious
Dude we are all the same species with the same nutrient requirements. We have different levels needed and different calories needed but we all need the same stuff. You were probably not eating enough calories or not eating enough variety. This really isn't difficult. If you really care about animals you will take the time to find a doctor who supports your choices and will help you. You will also be sure to look up chronometer and different whole food vegan recipes. I say all this as one of those people who failed at being vegan, "it made me weak", so I quit. I was so disgusted by these industries, and I started eating "local" and still, I hated it. So I took the time to get educated. And now I'm doing it and no problems. I'm healthier than I ever was. My problem was not eating enough calories and not eating enough variety.
We need every type of animal rights activist. Aggressive and kind. What we NEVER need is an apologist (Alicia doesn't seem like she is👏). You can be kind and not be an apologist. Earthing Ed does it best. Edited as sadly Alicia is definitely an apologist and was sad to see her not take a harder stance on animals. Telling the world they don’t have to be vegan…come on. Hate to say it, but I would lean toward her being plant based and not fully vegan. She seems to be plant based for her health and not vegan for the animals.
This is the best vegan talk I’ve ever heard. I love Alecia so much. The way she says “just trying is good enough” - that really resonates with me. Going vegan seems like a huge mountain I can’t climb. She made me feel like it’s possible. 😍
Yes! I second this as something I need to hear as someone striving to eat more plant based. I went ‘all in’ vegan years ago and ended up in hospital. For various reasons it may not be possible for me to ever be fully vegan, but being acknowledged for trying, in whatever ways I can, is what will spur me forward (not people shoving doctrine down my throat).
It's also a leading cause of late life psychosis for your future kids and child abuse.....but that shouldn't say anything about the diet.....go keto too.....then eat only circus peanuts......
Loved this Ellen it felt more like listenig to two girlfriends having a catchup and talking about life then an interview it made me smile! Alicia is such a sweet person love her approach with life. I don't have any children of my own but if I ever get the chance to this sounds like an amazing way to raising children. Thanks for the insight💛
Hey Ellen, you uploaded this video just when I was finishing your other podcast with Kori Meloy. Thanks for these great podcasts. May you have a blissful pregnancy and birth.💙
if you really care about your health, the if you need to eat meat, you raise it yourself and you kill it yourself, then you know where your food comes from, and you know that to never take the animals for granted, and to always raise your animals the way you would want to be treated if you were an animal , have empathy for them
Slutty Vegan is amazingggggg ! I went when my sister took me to my favorite !!!! Ben Platt concert in Atlanta. The cashier has a microphone who is full of energy and really welcomes everyone . 🎉 It is definitely a vibe . I loved it .
I first saw Alicia when she starred in the 3 Aerosmith videos (Cryin', Crazy & Amazing) and have been a big fan ever since. A beautiful woman with great ethics.
I 100% wish I could be on a vegan diet. But, I literally have joint destruction (within two weeks my joints are severely inflamed and crackling) and severe anemia whenever I try even with high iron rich foods, eating wholer foods overall, and supplementing. Eating vegan only works in one’s life if they can live a life able to get out of bed in the morning. For me, it doesn’t. 😔 Edit: I must say I was previously eating a whole food vegan diet for over 7 years. The two weeks I speak of now days is simply more recently if I try to go back (which I recently did and now I’m back to feeling horrible).
On the point about the “extreme activism” like people dumping red paint on others etc: it’s not my place to tell someone else how to do their activism, and we all have a journey with how we do activism, and our activism styles & tactics can change and mature in different ways through our activism-life cycle. And people receive all those messages from activists in different ways as well. For some people, the dumping of red paint WORKS for them and the message is strong and shifts a change in thinking. For a lot of other people (it seems), it may turn them off and therefore ridicule vegans and veganism without ever truly understanding the issue. And that’s unfortunate because people shouldn’t shut down veganism based off one scenario / person that they happen to dislike. Never the less, i welcome all forms of activism, and furthermore I encourage conversation and discourse and constructive criticism of activism, with the hope that people will continue to improve their activism in their own ways. And I can stand in solidarity with all activists (whether that’s feminists or animal-activists or environmental activists etc) without fully agreeing on their personal approach on how to do their own activism. How many times can I say activist & activism in one sentence 😅🤪 Thank you both for this podcast and conversation! 💕
@@Pavia1525 I didn’t say I agree with that… but thanks for your opinion. You could post your opinion in the general comments area, as your comment doesn’t seem to be a direct reply to what I wrote. :) my post had a just a little* more depth to it than that… and you’ve not replied to any point that I’ve made
@@anniexo3179 you clearly condone violent acts in the name of “activism”, for example, while you wouldn’t partake in dumping paint on people in protest, you still support the people who choose to do this. Get it? BTW… I’m a Second Amendment activist… does this mean you support my activism as well? Or is it just Leftist causes… Quote: “I welcome all forms of activism” “I stand in solidarity with all activists”

Being vegan is eating mostly fibre + sugar ( carbs are processed as sugar too ) And sugar is toxic to the body, ... you guys.

Humans need the least amount of protein amongst mammals as evident by the content of human breast milk. Plant milks and in particular soy milk has a large amount of protein in it as well. Though we usually use oat milk because it has higher calories and the silk brand is fortified with B12.
I’m one minute into this episode and I’m SO excited. I love Alicia. You are her together in a room is a very powerful force!
I wish I have friends like you. People around me think opposite. According to them, child needs to know who is the boss. Sometimes I feel alone because of this. Thanks God, my husband is supporting me. And thank you. Your videos are so supporting for me too.
🤷🏻♀️same here
Same! But just know you’re doing a good job and keep on loving those little ones ❤️
I hope you wouldn’t do that to your kids…
It’s Clueless.
@@Pavia1525 haha why all the hate? See you hating on a bunch of comments...
@@Pavia1525 you’re so cringe
Amazing !!! Alicia you bring back memories of my childhood ....clueless was my favourite movie ... I had all the shirts that said “as if ““whatever “
Best takeaway was TRY to be vegan and that I can do 🙌💕thank you Ellen for always having great informative conversations ❤️❤️❤️
It's a real pleasure to listen to a conversation between two such wonderful mamas and beautiful women in every sense of the word 💖
I love you!
Alicia’s cookbook The Kind Diet is amazing
This is my favorite podcast you’ve done yet. I just absolutely adore Alicia and her outlook.
wow awesome, I loveddd this convo too. it was so fun
I love all these talks on raising vegan kids. You guys are so relatable and honest. Thank you so much for these conversations ❤️
LOVE cosleeping...the kids will know when it's the time to leave. I was the same with my kids!
She’s such a ray of sunshine lol love her
Alicia, thanks for protecting your son from the harm and trauma of circumcision 💙
No more taking fore skin!
I wish it was talked about more. Circumcision is such a barbaric thing and should be illegal.
Probably my favourite episode so far! Thank you Ellen and Alicia for such a beautiful conversation led with kindness, compassion and love. ✨
Hi Ellen,
I usually listen to your podcast via Apple, but I had to stop by and tell you how much I love your podcast! Especially this episode was beautiful. I think you are a very knowledgeable person that I can learn from. RUclips needs more creators like you in my opinion.
Dear wishes from Germany
Not into celebrities but man I really resonate with Alicia! Great interview and both wonderful and very inspiring mamas!!!
If we didn't already know this about Alicia, you can tell she's been vegan a long time bc there's something about most long time vegans who get it when it comes to talking about or not talking about veganism.
She was my favorite when I was 16 and she’s my favorite at 41. I adore her and her adorable little son Bear
Loved Alicia, and the tone of the conversation. Congratulations.
Ahhh! Have been waiting for this one since I heard you announce all the new guests on one of your recent videos! Loving the podcast SO much!!
Ahh I love Alicia! She’s such a wonderful mother! Loved this episode Ellen! Thank you
im so glad you enjoyed it thanks for the support!
@@carolyn2197 you seriously have some major issues you need to resolve. Or not.. live in your misery for all I care 😉
I would die of happiness if you could have a podcast episode with Earthling Ed!!
I would loveee that. Trying to get him here to Hawaii one day :)
Russell Brand would be cool!
you too are absolutely radiate positivity and wiseness !! love this one, beautiful friendship :)
This woman has a gorgeous soul. Wow.
Thank you both of you for this beautiful conversation! Currently pregnant with my first and this resonate so much with how I feel about parenting💖
Definitely read The Kind Mama. Alicia did a great job with that book.
Same I got so weak
A ray of sunshine!! Thank you girls so much. You girls are blessing xx
I grew up watching her in clueless and crush she matured into a beautiful mother
And she does not age, it seems.... She is beautiful from the inside, out ✨❤✨
Thank you ladies for setting good examples for women everywhere.
I love her. She is unique and amazing. 💙
Loved this interview so much. Alicia is such an inspiration. I can tell she really respects and has love for bears dad…so cool
Two of my favourite people together ❤️❤️❤️
Can’t wait to ask my questions on the membership for August!!!
Best Best video! Ellen and Alicia are two of my favorite vegans! 1000% inspiration and happiness to watch this 💕☺💕🌈
Absolutely love Alicia! ✨Thank you so much for this! 🌱
I was vegan and fell off the wagon and when I was vegan I felt and looked the best and I keep trying to go back but it’s so hard
I really love watching the two of you chit chat, you’re both inspiring and I’ll be a better mama since watching this ❤❤❤
She’s awesome. Very well spoken and down to earth 🌍
This was such a great interview! Thank you so much for this! I love Alicia and I grew up with her movies! How did you get to be friends with her?
Wow it’s amazing you were able to get her on your podcast.
Love this woman! Hooked. Definitely going to start on her podcast. Thanks for having her on x
If you ever decide to have children, Alicia's book The Kind Mama is a must-read.
The Kind Diet changed my life in 2009 💛
Amazing compassionate women. Thank you for this talk 💗
Hey Ellen, you uploaded this video just when I was finishing your other podcast with Kori Meloy. Thanks for these great podcasts. May you have a blissful pregnancy and birth.💙
44:22 so true. Loved this podcast!! ❤️
I loved this one. You both are so inspiring!
awe thank you for the support!
I love both of you! This was my favorite episode so far!
I loved the Kind Mama book! I still take Kind prenatals daily love them.
if you really care about your health, the if you need to eat meat, you raise it yourself and you kill it yourself, then you know where your food comes from, and you know that to never take the animals for granted, and to always raise your animals the way you would want to be treated if you were an animal , have empathy for them
I adore Alicia Silverstone ... her book is not just for Vegans its for everyone that likes to try new things ❤
Slutty Vegan is amazingggggg ! I went when my sister took me to my favorite !!!! Ben Platt concert in Atlanta. The cashier has a microphone who is full of energy and really welcomes everyone . 🎉 It is definitely a vibe . I loved it .
Pls do more with her! I just love her
I first saw Alicia when she starred in the 3 Aerosmith videos (Cryin', Crazy & Amazing) and have been a big fan ever since.
Edit: I must say I was previously eating a whole food vegan diet for over 7 years. The two weeks I speak of now days is simply more recently if I try to go back (which I recently did and now I’m back to feeling horrible).
Uhhh.. NO EXCUSES. Eat babies or don't.
You are not alone. Have you seen Dr. Gundry wrote about not using red kidney beans? Scary stuff out there!
Grant Genereux has free ebooks on chronic hypervitaminosis A, which seems to be the root cause of my persistent iron and zinc deficiency.
Another possible issue could be oxalate toxicity.
Fantastic as usual. Thank you Ellen. 😉👍
How many times can I say activist & activism in one sentence 😅🤪
Thank you both for this podcast and conversation! 💕
Are you insane or merely sarcastic?
@@Pavia1525 move along…. ✌🏼
Yep… you are insane. People who dump red paint on others deserve a beat down.
Or is it just Leftist causes…
Quote: “I welcome all forms of activism” “I stand in solidarity with all activists”
The one thing I dont like is that Alicia listed all those people in Hollywood as vegans when they most definitely are not. KIM kardashian did a commercial for beyond burgers like, once. That doesnt mean she is vegan.
Dream podcast guest Ellen?!
I love both ladies and really wish both would make more books especially Alicia!!!! Make another book we love your two you got I have mine framed/signed my favorite in the house :) Also, BTW Alicia love love the pink you are wearing!!!! Anywhere you got it from where we can order?
Love Alicia and love her pink shirt!!!
Thank you so much...this was beautiful and inspiring♥️♥️♥️
My two favorite people in the world!!!
I love this!! We do elimination communication and it's amazing!
What I would give to have had any idea about any of this when my two girls were young!! I'm 56 now and wish I could "re-do".... for my girls foundations
Loved this! Thank you very much!
I have a similar story, I´ve been a vegetarian from an early age, like her. BUT after 23 years I had to changed my diet out of many health issues. >>> Migranes, Headaches, Depression, brittle naills, hair loss, enlarged veines - I got surgery on both legs at the age of 35 !!! All the symtomes are gone since I´ve changed my diet to KETO ! Heathy fats and proteins are needed to have a healtyh body + mind !!! Being vegan is eating mostly fibre + sugar ( carbs are processed as sugar too ) And sugar is toxic to the body, ... you guys.
Great podcast Ellen. You and Alicia are such beautiful humans xx
Loved this episode! Alicia seems like such a nice person.
I'm only a few minutes in. I am a flirting omnivore. I do notice, when I stop eating dairy, I'm so much happier. I think one of the reasons is because dairy hurts my stomach. The pain is so constant, that I don't realize it's w problem until I stop eating it, and I'm so much happier.
