I think you did pretty well. It ended up a little easier than I expected, but it still gave some extra challenge to an otherwise-easy game. Presentation and editing were all good too! I'll be waiting with anticipation for whatever you do next.
I rewatched the vid just to double check my speech, and items are allowed. Just no timed hits were allowed for the challenge. I suppose if you wanted to use no items, go for it, you'd prove to be a better man/woman than me! (Honestly if I did a no items challenge, the instant kill moves on Toadstool probably would've peeved me aplenty.)
