  • How Could You Dare to Marry Hurrem Off? "DON'T DRIVE ME MAD!"
    Magnificent Century Episode 7 👉 • Magnificent Century Ep...
    At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
    The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
    As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

      That's usually how it goes with rulers who had harems. Kings/Sultans/Emperor's only favored kids born of their favorite women. Meanwhile children born to the unfavored women were almost always discarded by their father as 'extras'. Mehmet was born of Hurrem who Suleiman was madly in love with. So being the firstborn from her, Suleiman already decided he was to be the heir. Meanwhile, since Mahidevran fell out of favor with Suleiman, Mustafa had to pay the price for it.

    I have watched this show twice fully and when videos pop up on my Facebook feed, I still watch them and think wait a minute I don’t remember that lol. Absolutely loved this show. First time I locked myself in my room for weeks binge watching it. Every episode would end so good I couldn’t wait to watch it later. I didn’t sleep for 5 days. The first time you are to busy reading the sub titles you can’t see everything. So then you can go back and watch it again and not really have to be glued to reading.

      Except he wasn't captured and held hostage. He lost the war for the throne to his brother and fled the empire with his family. He sought refuge on Rhodes, and his Sultan brother ended up paying them annually to keep him comfortably imprisoned rather than demanding his head or risking him trying to seize the throne. He died before the Ottomans took Rhodes, and Suleiman had his son killed.
      It's a weird deviation and I'm not sure why the writers did it, other than to maybe soften Suleiman's image.

      After Mahidevran beat Hurrem, Sulieman told Valide to send her away. But Valide didn’t listen and kept Mahidevran in the palace. Mahidevran poisoning Hurrem should have been the final straw, but Valide’s favoritism towards her overruled her good sense and she let her stay in the palace. Ended up causing her a lot of headaches in the end.

    My thoughts about why dismissed the lala pasha whose son wants to marry Hurrem: more of because he thinks that lala is favored or is under Valide and does what Valide orders. (Sort of under her power.)
    Correct me if I'm wrong. I carefully thought of it because I don't think there's no way it is just because he wanted no one over Hurrem or whatsoever.

    • @Redluna32
      @Redluna32 Год назад +19

      It's unlikely to be anything quite so underhanded, at least not on the pasha's part. These arrangements weren't considered uncommon, particularly not when handled through the Valide, who supervised the entire harem. The exceedingly uncommon part, which the man had no way to know, was that he wasn't speaking of a regular servant but instead a woman held high in the sultan's favor.

    • @karenhenry1233
      @karenhenry1233 Год назад +28

      Yeah, I wondered about that. Lala was clueless about Hurrem. He didn't know that she was the Sultan's favorite. The Valide is the one at fault. She knew better than to think Suleyman would give her up. I think she was trying to get rid of her in the Sultan's absence, but her plan failed.

    • @kayodewa
      @kayodewa Год назад +15

      In this circumstance there was a massive breach of etiquette by valide. Since she can't be punnished, someone of lesser position will be punnished. That was the reason lala was retired.

    • @charleneannegellie4998
      @charleneannegellie4998 Год назад +8

      @@kayodewa Somehow, I am thinking of that too. Probably that is the highest possible (if not no.1) reason I can think of. Like someone has to take responsibility. And to kind of let Valide know she can't just do things like that (giving away his favorite..something abt authority thingy going on.)

    • @bezukaking6860
      @bezukaking6860 5 месяцев назад +2

      Valide claims that Vizier Lala Kasim Pasha was the one to initiate the process to get Hurrem as his daughter-in-law. This would be considered ... distasteful, I think, since you're asking for favour from the royal family instead of them granting it to you as a reward (see: how Magnificent Century handles the Damat/Bridegroom system of marrying their daughters to prominent Pashas). Is Valide lying? Yep.
      However, what dues Suleyman know? All he knows is that poor Kasim Pasha was the one to bring this to his attention. This would make him sound enough like a self-starter in this regard to suggest that the Valide is not lying. Therefore, the problem was that Kasim Pasha appeared to have misbehaved, and a misbehaving Pasha is not fit for the Divan.

      I think it was smart she didn’t. Hurrem knew it would be found out eventually. After he found out, he confronted his mother, who has more power than Hurrem. His mother thought Hurrem told him but he told her that wasn’t the case. It saved Hurrem in the long run. Imagine what would have happened to her once he left again and Hurrem faced the wrath of his mother more than she already does.

    Valide make her own decision by marrying Sultan's favorite just because Mahidevran scared for being replace. Someone may said that Suleyman fight his own mother for Hurrem, but no! Valide should pick someone else among non favorites and marying them. Of course Valide knew well that noone can touch Sultan's favorite but because Mahidevran whining, she willing to break the rules. It's her first attempt to declare war with Hurrem.. if Mahidevran feel great to replace Gulfem, she should expect that Sultan can replace her with another women. What makes Hurrem different, she fight for Suleyman by herself, but the other women sent to him by the spoiled royalty and whining Mahi just to takes Hurrem down. That's why they never stay.. 😏
