WARNING.. 1. Warm up first. Don't just go and do it. Warm up, get those joints and muscles flowing. Or you'll hurt yourself. Believe me, it's agony if you pull a muscle. 2. Learn the technique, slowly. Don't worry about strength. Why? 3. Your brain is the most sophisticated expensive organ. It is pattern recognition machine. Do it everyday so the brain sends messages to nerve system. The messages will flow to all your muscles, throughout your body. You need to give your brain and body enough information. Conscously you'll exert a lot of effort in concentration but that will pass when it becomes a skill. What willl happen gradually is the brain and body will record a pattern. Consistency, little steps everyday, makes the difference. Don't give up. 3. Pattern in brain and muscle will then be set because you consistently, warmed up, practised everyday. Then you'll be able to do it. So don't be disheartened, in first try, and first week or month. Just learn the technique, do it nice and easy, get your brain to register the moves. More you do, everyday, small steps, the better. Instead of doing a lot one day and miss 3 days and do more again. Don't work that way. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! PS...brill video.
@ichibipier For anyone starting off flares is a dificult move and does take months to years to master. However if you look at the bigger picture a flare is just a basic of power moves.
@BboyFortune Flares tend to hurt your wrist so if it hurts bad stretch and maybe take a break from flares for a week. Also u can get the wrist guards people use for weight lifting
@04Fobs im right handed but I pilot on my left. Its really up to you and what comes easy. Just be sure to learn all your power the same way 1st because it will be a lot easier.
oh man...Ive been trying to do these for years. all tutorials show how to do flare the same. You show how to do it in the back. Finally that was the only thing i had a problem with. Im going to try this man Thanks so much brotha!
Trying to explain to my 6 year old nephew about flares, i could do them when i was younger but im not as strong as i used to be, this has helped a lot though, thanks for the effort you put into these videos =)
this man knows his shit cause this is the very technical way todo a flare and no matter how strong u are u can do it, the other is just all abs pushing through it
I mastered one 360 rotation, cant get down 2 flares bcuz my arms dont have enough strength yet. Thats one thing power tutorials forget to mention is that some strength training is needed (push ups). It took me about 2 months to perfect my single flare, but im sure everyone will have different time periods bcuz of the mindset they have. Perseverance is key, thats all I can say my friend.
LA FAMILIA Yeah in all aspects of breakdancing you will most likely need to build up your strength but you especially need strength when doing power moves for e.g., my breakdancing teacher told me it can take some people up to 2+ years to learn a windmill.
in all my years of breakin ive thought to myself, wtf!!!??? i have all this power but no damn flares!!! ..and idk if anyone else knows how key flares are for linking other power moves together but let me tell u, IT FRIGGIN KEY! .. the tip about how to place the hand and swing the hips i have never heard in my 5 years of breakin (i've heard see-saw the hips but i was like wtf???) now i'll have like 5 flares in about 1month, no doubt. power seriously got leveled up from this one tutorial. thx!!
Whahahaah this is awesome and actually isn't so complex when you break it down in pieces. I like your guides. They make it look simple and you don't add any unnecessary bullshit talking.
oh my god.. this bring back memories. when i was 14 years old i started breakdancing. and after 2 years i did ragequit, as there was one move i could never do, which was flare.. no matter how much i practised and tried, i could only get to the last part. so almost 1 round of flare.. i really miss break dancing, and i do have intentions and plan to dance again, but problem is, i got nowhere where i can train it, like space, room or place. as it does take space to do windmills, swipe, turtle and etc. cant do it on 1 x 1 meter room, i need like 3 x 3 to have a comfortable area without thinking about hitting something. i did sub to you!
agree with you my friend i am practicing it 3 months and i got one flare and i am going for a second one so dont let it go if u cant do this the first time!! KEEP PRACTISING everyday!!! PEACE!! :)
@averagejoedance hmm try walking through the motion and then commit your self to doing it. Sometimes it helps to just watch someone doing flares and then do them.
you really helped me with the back of the flare now i can do multiple flares since i always used to lose my momentum for the next rounds at the back thank you very much
Hey VincaniTV , When I do my flares, (I flare counterclockwise), I can't lift my left hand when I try to go to the back, and my whole body slams into it and it hurts. How can I get my hand up faster?
It took me at least 3 or 4 months to get this down right and I was doing it wrong this whole time and broke my leg and almost my arm and u showed how to do it right THANK YOU!!!!
@ChaoticRave118 Hmm just focus on that one flare until you got it not problem. Then just push yourself to do 5 at a time. A lot of people kick to hard in the front and not hard enough in the back so make sure you swing like a hula hoop
jason nguyen How long do you think I should be able to hold the freezes before trying this? And which freezes? The only real freezes I can hold are the Baby Freeze, Pilot, Cheer, and kind of the cricket. Along with the Handstand if you count that as a freeze.
Yeah, I'm able to hold a cricket for 10+ seconds now if I wanted to. Along with doing a pilot with both legs in the air instead of one foot on the ground
I love your vids :') you break down every move so well, even though i'm right handed I can still follow you, and I've tried to follow tutorials from people who were right-handed before and didn't get half as far
I weigh 255 lbs and i spraind my arm on the first attempt. Now i have to learn to wipe my ass with my opposite hand. Thanks break dancing guy. This is gona be an interesting couple of weeks.😃👍
@ichbinvidi Whats up Vince haha Make sure you learn basic footwork, toprocks and freezes so that you have a background on dancing before you get into harder stuff
If your knees are bent it usually means you're not kicking hard enough but if you do need to stretch a good way to do it is getting knee pads or elbow pads and putting them backwards on your knee so they don't bend as easily when you do the flare.
swing more to gain more speed so you won't fall on the floor. also work on upper body strength and it will be easier for u to keep yourself in the air. ive been freerunning and tricking for years and im learning breakdancing now, its beatiful but very hard to master the movements. keep trying, each fall will help you to improve and achieve success :)
Swing more with whichever leg is your opposite leg. So if you're going clockwise (right handed) try to swing your left leg to your ear. It is very important that you get used to swinging your opposite leg hard when trying to go for multiples.
@JChungue I took a while. After a year of bboying I could do one then I realized I was doing it the wrong way so I took another year to learn the other side and maybe another year to make it look nice. You can learn it much faster then me, but you just have to put in the time.
i used to breakdance but the place i danced moved away and i stopped for a while but because of ur tutorials im totally going to train myself again THANKS !!!!
another good way to work on this i believe is to do it on like a stool or a rock or something. u can have ur legs lower than what the floor would be in the begining and work ur way up to doing full flares eventually.
@Noahor98 Hmm maybe a couple months to get it down but honestly I still spend time training them to make them better. So you gotta always stay learning
Hi Vincani! First, nice tutorial! It helps me a lot! I'm 15 and I've been dancing for 2 years right now (Urban Hip-Hop). I'm really motivated to teach this move, but I'm kind of stuck right now. When kicking my second leg (my right leg because I'm doing it clockwise), I always fall down. It won't work and it always goes wrong when I kick my right leg. I've been practicing this move like 10 minutes a day for a month now. But now, I'm spending more time on it. However, have you got any tips for me so I can make progress? Thanks in advance!
I'm only 15, I have no time do practice 6 hours a day :P Though I don't have a deadline so I can practice quietly whenever I want, I'll get there eventually. I personally think that if I train too much, I would faster have the tendency to give up, wich is worse than practicing only 10 minutes a day :)
After a week I managed to finally be able to do this trick. I decided to show my friend, who's an awesome BBoy. He was slightly impressed, and then said "When you can do this, I'll be impressed." And started to do Air Flares. D:
hey man rally good vid but how cn u protects your hands and wrists if they hurt while doing this move cuz when i put the second hand in while practicing it hurts thnx
@iFarterHarder Every person who can flare has probably failed to sweep correctly the first time they tried. These moves take months to fully get, so you shouldn't give up. I got windmills in around three months but the first month was a whole lot of fail: crashing onto my shoulder. Kept working; got it. Hardwork and perseverance sure pay off.

this man knows his shit cause this is the very technical way todo a flare and no matter how strong u are u can do it, the other is just all abs pushing through it

I mastered one 360 rotation, cant get down 2 flares bcuz my arms dont have enough strength yet. Thats one thing power tutorials forget to mention is that some strength training is needed (push ups). Kinda late but I've been practicing my flares for a month and a half and I've been able to do two clean ones. Just depends on how much you practice.

@Noahor98 Hmm maybe a couple months to get it down but honestly I still spend time training them to make them better. So you gotta always stay learning
1:06 I feel like I can't get my leg in the front to kick or at least kick hard enough without throwing me off.
Thank You Vincanity!! I'm a bboy myself and I've been trying to get more rounds and more flexible. Due to your vids I've been improving!!
It’s been 11 years, how’s your progression going?
More videos!! this is the best tutorial i've seen
Brent Paelinck dude.. maybe ur hand needs to be stronger..... cause you need to lift yourself whlist doing this move .. :) does it help?
Tried it and it goes better! Guess I'll have to use more power. Thanks!
you're welcome! :)
+Brent Paelinck. You said you were practicing 10 minutes a day right? How about practice maybe 6-7 hours a day because flaring
