Hey! What’s goin’ on?!
In this quick video, I’ll show you how to pinstripe your car with vinyl striping. I was doing the design on the sides of a 2015 Isuzu Highlander, just to give it some pizzazz. I use ProStripe. It’s really easy to do. You don’t have to have a lot of skills like those painting pinstriping that other guys do.
So what you do is, first see how much you need. Then, you can figure out how you want it to look. Like in the pinstripe I used, you can choose to have it thick stripe on top or thin stripe on top. I chose the thick stripe on top.
Before you start putting the pinstripe, make sure your body panel is clean - wash the car, the area and dry with a shammy. Make sure there’s no dust on it.
Once you get started, you go over the body line. I do it one panel at a time. Make sure to press on the end of every panel, that way if you have to peel the beginning end to redo it because it’s not straight enough or whatever, at least it doesn’t peel off the whole thing.
I also did some designs on the front and back ends of the pinstripe. I saw the design of the back window where the moldings formed kind like of a triangle shape so I thought of copying that, then did the same on the side I was working on in the video.
After that, I peeled off the plastic covering that’s on the pinstripe. While doing that, I make sure that the sticker was pressed well. Took about an inch from the end of the sticker and formed the exact design I had on the finished side, using a sharp razor blade. Don’t push too hard when you’re doing this, instead just do it very lightly and cut the extra pinstripe to achieve your desired design. You don’t want to scratch your paint.
The challenging part is working on two opposite sides and having to go back and forth copying what you’ve done on the finished side and making sure it looks the same. I am obsessed about making it look identical while just eyeball-measuring the lines.
I used 2-tone pinstriping on the front end. I added some red inside the black one, just using the skinny/thin line of the red pinstripe to put in between the black thick and thin lines in order to add more color and design to it. We just removed the thicker line since we don’t need it.

Great video!... Just want to say as a car enthusiast myself that you should mention that it is always good to go over it after with heat to set the adhesion so that it doesn't lift in the future.
Thanks for liking the video!
Thanks Tony for this video. It gave the the courage to try pinstriping my daughter's Honda Civic by myself. We did the accent color inside the two colors and we did a cool easy design on the quarter panel. Thanks again
Sweet video I came across on my way to stripe my golf cart

Thanks bud!
Great little tutorial! Great video work and good audio. Keep up the good work!
Tony that looks dope af. Thanks for the share
Awesome video dude I work at a detail shop and I pinstripe cars everyday but I've never done a design until today. I am having a hard time with the design you did in the video, I can't get the pinstriping to bend sharply the way you bend yours. And I definitely will be adding an accent Stripe from now on. Thanks dude
I love how you finished the ends. Will have to do it like that on my truck. Thanks
thanks Tony, I have done basic detail at the dealership where I worked but pinstripe will be added to my position, great video and thanks
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed!
I restored an old B-Ball hoop for my kid(and me) I am going to try this as an outside border. I'm using it on top of latex Bulls-Eye primer sealer. I painted with a wienie roller, hopefully its smooth enough. Great video though man. I dig the design. You make it look easy.
Tony Great Job, Wish you were here to stripe my VW Bug!
Thanks man!
Not just a nice, professional job, but also artistic IMO.

FANTASTIC!
Nice job. Pretty sure I could do it it seems simple enough. I hate to correct you cause you are the pro but in your description it should say Toyota highlander.
Awesome Vato!
Very good video. Thank you.
i have found tucking the stripe behind the door doesnt provide enough adhesion along with the added pressure of bending it around the door edge. this causes the strip to lift soon enough and I'm forever sticking it back down. i think trimming it 2mm before the door edge solves this
I loked it just with the black lines but hey, it's a question of taste isn't it!
wow, great job, I cut mine between doors and could not match them, now I go back and do it the way you did, but I am afraid to use a raiser, i may mark my paint job.
Just do it!
this is great if you want something fast that looks bad, yes. it is a nice way to take a art from and throw it out the window for some tape. you might as well go to a auto body shop and spend the $100 for them to do it right not with so tape and a razor blade
Good Job.
great video sir!

Awesome and Thanks!
that looks great...
It does!
GOOD JOB!!!
Kick ass man
Thanks, Shawn!
Great!!!!
Now if you want to keep all your cut ends from peeling up on you brush some clear nail polish over them.
Love your videos! Just wondering do you have any tips for removing dents out of a rear quarter panel on a truck bed?
Check out the blog, we have a ton of info there! www.learnautobodyandpaint.com/
For someone who isnt a professional, you did a decent job. Highlander stripes generally dont go directly on the body line, and the red line between the 5/16 black and the tips look a bit tacky, but those are preference issues.
Try laying the entire side of the car all at once for maximum fluidity. I can see the subtle angle changes from you going panel by panel.
Overall, decent job. 5/10
Great video..Great techique..
Thanks, Gerald! Hey don't forget to grab your FREE manual: learnautobodyandpaint.com/free-autobody-manual

Tony Bro, long time sub.. did a search for pin striping.. you've got it locked down, 3 videos on the first page in google..
Awesome!
Great description...thanks man!

Hi Tony. I want to take a crack at doing this. I don't have access to a garage. Would it be too risky doing this outdoors?
Should I seal the tape with anything?
Hey Man! You can clear coat over vinyl stripes. Clear coating over vinyl stripes is a common practice, particularly on custom paint jobs and vehicles where long-term durability and a seamless finish are desired. Superb video. You did a great job. Thanks much. (but some of your links are not working. You might want to check into that.)
Assuming you could've left the thick red line attached to the clear tape.
Can you put this pin stripe on a powder coated wheel, and would it stay on?
{
{2015 Corvette Stingray.}
Hey Man! It's technically possible, but there are a few things to consider like the preparation, adhesion and the type of pinstripe. To thank you so much, I will try with my guitar.
Lobe the videos. Great job. Have a question.... I've got 19 tundra and will be doing a pinstripe soon. The body line that I'm going to follow is in direct line with both door handles. What would be your advice on how to approach this. Should I finish the line flat to either side of the handles or finish to a point and then start the next line with a point? Thx
*love not lobe

How long does it last tho
If you ahve a ceramic coating on your car, how do you prep it?
Hey Man! Regarding your question proper preparation is a must. You must remove any existing sealants, waxes, oils, or glazes. Only when the surface has been thoroughly cleaned will your ceramic coating be able to bind to your paintwork effectively. People wanna put it on.. I wanna take it off lol
Different strokes are what makes the vinyl graphics business very profitable
💀 right, pinstriping is an abomination
I hate pinstripes on cars! I thought they were a thing of the past. If I am looking to buy a used car and I spot pinstripes, the deal is automatically off! Do these stupid stripes come off without leaving a mark on the vehicle? Anyone?
Yes! You can take it easily as long as it is tape, it won't damage the paint at all, i've done it three times
Most times they do easily as long as they aren't painted on...
pinstripes are timeless. whatever floats yer boat, tho
@@ultrakool you're like 70 huh
Y is ur pinky fingernail longer than the rest???
I use it for masking, but people are so ANAL about it. I decided to cut it.
You can't imagine how many people comment on it. It was used for masking and taking bugs or derbies out of paint while painting... www.learnautobodyandpaint.com/vip-offer
Vinyl is shit....HIRE A REAL PINSTRIPE ARTIST!!! They need to make a living too... 😎
Or, you can do it the right way and have it done by someone who can stripe. The vinyl shit cracks and flakes.
