    I have all six colors, bought them back in the mid 80's. All opened, and with music recorded on them.

    I think new music is being put on tape, it's cheaper than disc. so bands are promoting their music this way.

      The only bands putting their music on tape is indie kids and underground metal bands. You can buy and burn your music on CDr easier.

    A friend lent me a recording of Van Halen very well dubbed on a good stereo on one of these tapes, I didnt want to give it back i loved the music and the look of these cassettes was so cool watching the reeel go round and round.

    I remember that JVC used these rtr cassettes in their hifi brochures (rtr cassette inside deck).

    Those tapes was recorded on a different deck obviously, a deck with a different kind of play/record head will sound better or most often worse because of that, those tapes have Maxwell xl tape inside, if you erase and record a song on your deck, you'd think it's one of the best you ever heard

    just look at the top spine of the cassette to determine if it is type ii or iv. if it has holes near the middle (similar to the holes when you break out the record protection tabs) it is type iv / metal. just holes direct to the protect tabs is type ii / chrome. :)

    I'm half german, half english. (born into the RAF during Cold War...getting old now!!!)...I live in both Bavaria and UK approx 33/66% of time per year respectively! ....and yes, I'm a sound engineer, originally trained with BBC, but now work for Digital Mastering service company. Yes, Cassettes & R2R are far more prevalent in Germany than in UK, always were from my experience.....Those German magazines are driven very much by the editorial staff, politics and their inherited alliances!!! You have to challenge and question the lead engineer/editorial who write the reviews, as they are not always done in the pursuit of ultimate recording sound quality. Seriously, do a blind test with the Pioneer CT-95 and say a Nakamichi CR-7.....I guarantee you will find the Nakamichi in a totally different league for recording and playback. I own a "MINT" CR-7 for recording most of my cassettes and a Nak Dragon and Nak RX-505 (for convenience) for playback. I have a Nak ZX9, which sounds great with Vinyl recordings (warm sound), but I prefer the more transparent CR-7 / Dragon/ RX-505 trio for everyday use. All the Naks have had their Capacitors changed on their main and control boards and I maintain and align the machines myself in the lab. Depending on the recording, the CR-7 can even outperform my two 1/4 inch R2Rs (Akai 747/dbx (looks nice, but actually mediocre sounding deck) & Technics RS-1700 (good in 4-track mode), although can't compete with my Fostex E16 at 30ips.

    • @vintagestereo
      @vintagestereo  8 лет назад

      I use for all my indoor stereo review movies the Samsung SC-HMX20C. I bought it for 750 euro in 2008. I never see them second hand because the price for in that period not well know ore highly regarded brand samsung was to high. For all my other video's i used my 2 identical Sony DSC HX20v compact camera's. The sony's have a much better video quality and also a much better image stabilization. The samsung only have a electronic image stabilization and it's very hard to keep the image smooth. The samsung have superb stereo microphones, the built in microphones in the sony's are very bad and not suitable for my stereo movies but when i record live music i use for the sound one of my 2 external microphones the zoom h2 and the zoom h2n. these 2 mic's can handle very high spl and no disortion at all even when you record very loud live music. The samsung can't record to loud music. At the moment I am looking for a second hand 4k travel camera(not a camcorder) but non of them have a microphone in connection what is very important for me

    There is a lot of bass typical for early 80's tuner radio recordings if not used a EQ when recording those tapes just raw from the tuner.

    I still have a Pioneer deck i bought new in 1997-1998 it has a feature not sure if i word it right but here goes something (ble) when you insert a blank tape and click this button it goes on a test cycle for a min or so. Is that like a bias test on Pioneer decks certain models that had that feature?.

      Hi just was looking up yours Pioneer CT-95 yes yours has the "super auto ble" circuit. Not sure when Pioneer added that circuit on their decks. MSRP back in 1993 was $1,000 US dollars and that deck is also a 3 head deck.

      vintage stereo there's someone selling a Harmon cassette deck for $50 but is the brand good?

  • @WaybackTECH
    @WaybackTECH 8 лет назад

    Ya, I am subscribed to Techmoan, good channel. That Vinyl Eyes guy, I watched that video a couple weeks ago and I mostly agree with him but he thinks only 90-95 era decks are good, and only 3 heads sound the best, and I really strongly disagree with him on both of those points. I do strongly agree though with him, Autoreverse decks with the flip head are something to stay away from. CT-95 is a rare and was / is an expensive deck, not something people wanting to get back into decks are likely to find or be willing to pay the money for. Plenty of others made earlier and later that sound and work just as good.
    I think reel cassettes look cool, but that is about it. Probably a good move to just sell those.

      I only know that Harmon Kardon decks back then were considered to be some of the best high end decks. That has a unique tray load. Might have a belt that drives the tray which has gone flabby or broke.

    Nakamichi ZX9 is the best recording deck ever!
    Nakamich Dragon is the best playback ever!
    Arcam Delta 100S - is the best Dolby S machine ever!
    They are more expensive edition of Nakamichi's deck but would be poor value.

  • @BigKelvPark
    @BigKelvPark 8 лет назад

    So these tapes sound poor in your CT-95? Could it be due to poor recording technique? Maybe your CT-95 isn't mechanically AND electronically calibrated. FM recording. 3 problems compounding the poor sound? I had several of these cobalt52 during the late 1980s - they were expensive then (BTW the actual tape inside is Maxell).
    Well done for using someone else's videos to make yours longer to gain advertising revenue. So you tube.

    I have been using tapes since Idiscoverd them .I have used CDs but digital sounds hard, loud & bight but mainley dull . Tapes to me are a priority for music and video VHS . IT IS CHEEP to make a disc . I say the public were fold out of tape in to DIGITAL as it is cheeper to make . In the UK , tapes have gone of the shelf . We have to go on line now for Entertainmant music shops have gone out of busness becuse of it . As for THE VYNAL HIPE ....? hipe it is . How meney houses have turntables instaled...? YEP they all use TV set or monitor fitted on the wall . HI-FI ...? I will not let go of it .......PS: DJs mostley use MP3 now ,but not me , it has to be done on the DECKS.

    Pioneer CT-95....worlds best cassette deck! Who are you kidding...You need to get out more....The CT-95 sounds "Flat" and lacks "Musicality" - These TEAC Cobalt 52G cassettes tapes look fantastic whilst in a decent Machine (any of the 'later manufactured'' well maintained top-end Nakamichi's (CR-7, Dragon, RX-505, ZX9 or ZX7).....put these tapes in a vintage TEAC they sound OK'ish, but put them in a Top-end TEAC deck, with HX-PRO enabled and the Cobalt 52G just doesn't have the range you would expect...very mediocre. Very expensive cassette that don't deliver on frequency or dynamic range....they do look great tho!
