    The dry hitch weight of this 5th wheel is around 1500lbs. Add in another 170lbs for the truck bed hitch mount and another 200lbs or so of hitch weight for normal camping cargo and you are fast approaching 2000lbs of hitch weight on the bed of your truck. Now add another couple hundred pounds to the truck for passengers and gear, and you are well over 2000 lbs. Not many 1/2 ton trucks have that kind of payload capacity. You really need a 3/4 ton truck to safely tow one of these.

    • @fly2crawl
      @fly2crawl 10 месяцев назад +5

      Came here to say this exact thing. Most people don't realize the limiting factor in towing an RV in most cases is going to be payload limits not towing capacity. Also towing at the max limit is "ok" but it's probably not going to be comfortable. I always tell people to give at least 20% margin on the max limit, if you can't then you need a bigger truck to comfortably tow.

    • @maxcorder2211
      @maxcorder2211 9 месяцев назад

      @@fly2crawl Yep, when the dealer tells you, "your truck can pull it", you better run the numbers yourself. I can "pull" a small utility trailer with a rope attached to it. What I can't do is put that load on my shoulders and walk off with it.

      @@fly2crawl I agree 100%. I'm 70 and have been towing trailers for a lot of years and I always observe the 20% safety margin and never had a problem. Now add towing in western states with mountain roads and that safety margin really matters.

    Being the last major rv manufacturer to build a rear dining fifth wheel you would think they could Nail it! But NO. They cut down the width of the dinette by 8-10 inches then put in a tiny little table! Also continue to provide very little storage in the bedroom. Nice big windows though. Video left me with a lot of questions that I don’t need answers to bcuz they ruined the dinette. Happy camping!

    You guys who sound the alarm on half ton towing- do u not realize that not all half ton trucks are created equal? I have a 2020 F-150 with a super max tow package. It has a 3.5 Eco boost engine, 10 speed transmission and is rated to tow 13,800. Its pin capacity is 1789 lbs. I run 10 ply Cooper tires and have Timbrel overloads on the rear axle I tow a 2015 Open Range 297rls with a dry weight of under 8k and a pin weight of 1380. We live in SE Missouri and have pulled to Yellowstone, Gatlinburg, Navarre Beach, Ocala, and more without a hint of overload or loss of control. I feel much saver with my setup than I would towing a pull behind half my campers size. So some of u will crunch the numbers and say I am endangering my life. I don’t see how you reach that conclusion unless you are trying to sell 3/4 ton units on the side. Of course not every truck is rated as highly as the f-150. But I purchased it with pulling a fifth wheel and it does the job.

    Excellent floor plan. My don't likes is the manual recliners, older folks can't pull the rig cord or kick the foot rest back in, they have to spend another $2k to upgrade to electric recliners. Jayco should have added upper cabinets above the bed to store extra pillows and blankets. I don't like the cubby hole at the head boad, I would lose my pillows in there. I didn't quite understand the grill and sink outside, was that a free standing setup or did it slide into the trailer?

      @@robdurfee6861 Gray water is not as bad as the black water but it is still not legal to dump in camp grounds or out in our national or state parks or other outdoor boondocking locations. Gray water is soapy water with food particles in it and can have negative impacts on the environment whether you use biodegradable soaps and dish detergent. We are camping to enjoy the beauty of nature and not hurt the land or the animals that live on it. When you camp you're supposed to leave the environment the same as when you found it. Disposing of Gray water by just dumping it on the ground can change the environment. It all starts with the soil. Plants depend on the native soils natural pH balance and ability to absorb moisture in order to thrive. Gray water contains chemicals and oils that can affect the natural balance and function of the soil, and this in turn affects the ability of native vegetation to thrive. Dumping RV grey water in areas with natural water sources like streams and rivers or lakes nearby can encourage algae. Algae can choke out the natural occurring species. Algae blooms can make water toxic to animals. Federal law might allow for The dumping of wash water but state laws will supersede the federal law in many states do not allow dumping Gray water.
      Gray water is to be disposed of properly. You cannot dump gray water directly on the ground thinking that soapy water wouldn't be a problem. But it's generally not the case. It is illegal to dump gray water in anything other than an approved sewage system in most places. Gray water has food particles oil soaps and even oils from the skin which can devastate vegetation. It can damage the environment and make that location unappealing for future campers.

      58 million people camped at least once in 2022 from what I can quickly Google. If everyone of them thought they alone were so special that dumping their Gray water tank would not hurt anything then what happens after 58 million Gray water dumps into the same basic locations in camp sites and authorized state and federal camp sites, BLM sites etc. 58 million are people that camped at least once. How many camp an entire season or full time and they continually dump their gray tanks wherever they want. Our land will no longer be something you want to camp on and the animals may die or their habitats be destroyed and their food sources etc. All because you all think you are so very special and dumping your soapy dirty gray tank is no big deal.
