Love the pattern of the d447. Try a 3/4" wide groove, i prefer the look a bit more and its a little more forgiving with the spacing. Love all your videos
nice tutorial video, thanks! I have these tools, necessary to be able to do this type of leather work ... so with pleasure I will follow your video tutorials and I signed up and hit the bell ... thank you very much and I hope I'm up to doing these craft works ... I create textures, designs, seams and more on vegetable cowhide and I use goatskin or handmade raw leather ... raw leather which I then make strips, tientos, of 2 mm 3 mm 4 mm .. .and i want to learn this craft of leather engraving...so i can do great handicrafts...thanks again so much and congratulations. Best regards.
Yes the leather needs to be wet but not to wet just damp through and through. If the leather is to wet when you stamp your design some of the crispness will pull out after the piece dries.
@@cheaneysaddles Thanks for the answer, I was curious because I never get that result from any stamping I do. It looked so buttery smooth and like it stamped so easy and the burnish is gorgeous
Hi Bruce. I love your videos. I just subscribed to you. I have a question I hope you can answer. how did you make the grooved end? I know how you did the lines but the rounded ends elude me. Thank you.
I am using a Craftool USA tool marked with the number D744400 I modified this tool to suit my needs by reshaping one end of the tool. I recently purchased a new Craftool with the number D444S and it looks very similar to my tool but it needs to be modified by reshaping the end also. Also another factor is the spacing that gives the rounded end effect. Thanks for watching my videos. Bruce
+Louise Florida /Missouri Louise, This was more of a show and tell...I know the audio was a lot low..This was just turn the camera on and go production....Thanks and Good to hear from you. Bruce
Thank you, Bruce. That serpentine design is really cool. Thank you for demonstrating what that stamp can do. Appreciate your videos.

I love your videos and was wondering if you could make a video of making a saddle from start to finish, or a series.
+Joseph Harvey Here is a time lapse video of a custom made saddle I made ruclips.net/video/Rr56ZVROnmg/видео.html Bruce Cheaney #leathercraft

Thank you for your comment and have fun with your leather working.
Amazing! I would love to see a video about exactly how you case your leather. I just can't seem to get the color you do, but I am getting better!
I was thinking the same thing it is amazing how dark his tool marks are
I agree a video on your way of casing leather, you always get the rich brown to come out.
Cool great job / 1st
+Fish n guns Thank You...Bruce
Sehr schönes Design weiter so👏
Does the leather need to be damp in order to get deep designs with the tools?
Yes the leather needs to be wet but not to wet just damp through and through. If the leather is to wet when you stamp your design some of the crispness will pull out after the piece dries.
how are you getting such a dark burnish from your tool?
The leather is fairly thick 13/15 ounce and is vegetable tanned saddle skirting which results the dark stamping.
@@cheaneysaddles Thanks for the answer, I was curious because I never get that result from any stamping I do. It looked so buttery smooth and like it stamped so easy and the burnish is gorgeous
did i miss where you laid your lines out how wide they are apart?
A 3/8" channel works good with this tool.
Hi Bruce,
What is the barrel size and blade size you like the most. I am looking to buy a Barry King Swivel Knife.
Thank you
+Mr. Tom 1/2" barrel 1/4" blade straight...
+Bruce Cheaney Thank you Bruce.
+Bruce Cheaney does a "thin" or "thick" blade matter much? I assume the thin blade is better for detailed work.
+Mr. Tom The thin one...
+Bruce Cheaney Thank you Bruce for all you do!

Thanks Bruce. I appreciate you answering my question. I am curious. Have you ever attempted to make any type of leather armor?
No I have not
el maestro nos ebseñafa a hacerlo tan bien que nos haremos los mejores cinturones para nuestros pamtalones....
good day to everyone, can anyone advise me how far apart should be the lines when using the D447S punch? thank you for your reply. Dalibor
Try 3/8" and experiment with the spacing on a scrap piece of leather.
Not sure what happened but could barely hear you on this video. Great demonstration tho. Hope all are well in your world. :D

Mr Cheaney. How do you case your leather?
Thanks
Here is a link to one of my leather casing videos ruclips.net/video/tgCvRjt0Oe0/видео.html
Where do you get your leather
+Fish n guns Tandy Leather and American Leather Direct... Thanks for asking Bruce #leathercraft
how thick was that leather?
+Chance Richards 13/15 ounce saddle skirting
which number does the stamp have
The marking on this leather stamping tool is CRAFTOOL USA D744400 which is slightly different from some of the others I have seen.
Do not you need to get wet?
Yes the leather needs to be slightly wet in order to receive a good deep impression.
I'm from Brazil, I'm learning, I do not know anything
Just have patience you will learn quickly.
Bruce Cheaney God willing, do you have WhatsApp?
I love your videos but there super hard to HEAR you!😥
You need to speak into the mic, sounds like you are down the hall in a tunnel.... :(
Thanks for watching!
Is that a 1 1/2 in wide piece of leather. Like for a belt??
This is a flank strap for a saddle that is 1 3/4" in width. You can easily stamp a belt blank the same way. Thanks for watching and commenting.
