Par for the course in United States history unfortunately. Another prime example, the "Bonus Marchers". A bunch of WWI veterans (many that had been wounded in action) that were being denied the benefits they were promised by the US government, they protested at the white house. The government response was to use the US Army to disperse those veterans at gun/bayonet point. The US government has a long tradition of breaking every promise they make, even to those who keep that government going.
