Love it. Reminds me seeing the Mirage and Hunters flying over our house in Wallisellen to land in Duebendorf. We used to cycle to the military airport to see them land land and take off. The pilots would always wave back at us kids. That was in the 70’s.

Because they're an independent nation state that needs to be able to defend their air space and/or enforce their neutrality. What kind of question is that? Modern fighter aircraft are complex weapon systems, you can't just go shopping when shit hits the fan, the capability has to be there all the time.
