Beautifully painted Vampire Counts and nice showing of many different models and options. As always GREAT WHFB battle report! So jealous we cant have more Ash for 40k battle reports.
***** Will do! Out of curiosity... what is YOUR favorite game? I like 40k AND Fantasy (and Battlefleet Gothic!) but 40k is a clear favorite due to fluff/setting. Currently you are playing pretty much everything MWG has but which one do you enjoy the most?
Horhe Vamp Oooh... that's a pretty deep question. Honestly... my ALL TIME FAVOURITE GAME... DESERT ISLAND STYLE... would be... Epic Armageddon I know... I know... dead game. No one plays it. BUT.... it's 40k the way you see it on the box covers and in the books. Earth shaking while armies annihilate each other. Whole GAMES of 40k taking place in a single Assault order. Basically... it's Apocalypse that doesn't take hours and hours. Epic: A was a great edition. Took the best of 1st and 2nd edition and threw in the unit construction from Epic:40k. Not that we're likely to play that here at MWG. I'm pretty easy going though... a game is as good as your opponents. So if I've got a great opponent, everything is fun!
Very nice response and thanks. I never actually played Epic but I have read about it... From dead games as I said I still occasionally do BattleFleet Gothic and once in a blue moon when I am back home we gather with some friends for a weekend of Necromunda. The gang standing proud at the end of the weekend gets to pay for all the beer to appease the rest of us. And you are right about having good opponent makes for good games.
Please do more of these! A few things to note - Seems you are using the slide over method that was in 7th, instead of the wheel to maximize in 8th. You don't get a free unlimited slide sideways to maximize on a completed charge, its part of the wheel and move. If you can't fully maximize b/c of terrain or other units, you align as best you can and your opponent adjusts also to meet you, but you lay where you wind up. This is especially noticeable when you've done some overruns. You don't align on overruns if you hit another unit. You run straight forward and if hit a unit, you hit exactly where you impacted. Also, invocation is D6 plus caster level. so the VC player is leaving lots of zombies and ghouls off the table he'd have gotten back ;) Love seeing these, keep em coming!
I noticed this about the Invocation as well but he is only wizard lvl 1 so not a huge deal. Thanks for the info on maximizing charges. Seems I've been messing up for a WHILE
If an overrun will take you into contact with an enemy it uses the rules governing a pursuit. Pursuit into a new enemy requires a wheel to maximize contact.
Steve needs to do a 2 terror gheist build with someone riding the other one. Would be pretty epic! I think Ash should always bring the badass bouncing cannon with his ogre kindom list to add little bit of ranged power. Also it would make terror gheists know the real meaning of terror when a S10 D6 ball hits it in the face :D
Love this series. Someone probably mentioned, if you're frenzied you have to pursue, so thats another reason why your ghouls would have chased the fleeing ogres!!
Once upon a time in Toronto there was a really cool guy who worked at the Warhammer outlet in the Eaton's centre. I'm pretty sure this is the guy. Nice to see he's doing well.
What a great game. At the start I really felt the Vampire Counts were going to get their asses handed to them, but I guess I didn't know the Vampire Count codex well enough.
Invocation of Nehek: Zombies heal 2d6 plus wizard level (of whoever casts the spell) of wounds, infantry heal d6 plus wizard level wounds, everything else only heals wizard level wounds. Vampiric, large targets, and ethereal things only heal one wound. Zombies are also S & T3 btw.
awesomely painted models! In addition to some of the rules "amends" made below, your general in the Ogre unit needed double 1's to rally as they are below 25% of their starting size.
No sliding over!!! You maximize all you can but you do not get extra lateral movement. It just means you cannot choose to just clip a unit if you are able to hit it square.
You won't read it anyway but i have to mind you that you have to place units 1 inch away from other units and impassable terrain :).. Your sabertusks were much too close to your other units in the deployment phase. The 1 inch away rule applies also to movement. The only way to get closer than 1 inch at your enemy or your own units is close combat :)
To help you guys (because I love your videos everytime :P Hope that got it cleared up :) Edit: I realllllly wish I lived near you guys I would love to play with all of you...
Also if someone dies in a challange, you do not move up the model behind them until the next combat turn (if someone had died). Not that it mattered to much here being that you are ogres... but something that is not a medium base and gets multiple attacks only still gets one until the next turn when it can shimmy up.
hey guys great bat rap. Not sure if these things have been mentioned in comments yet but theres a few things. Units have to be 1 inch away from other units, building and impassible terrien at all times only when charging does this rule not apply, secondly sabertusks never get the generals leadership for anything ever, thirdly when your raising units with invocation you get d 6 plus your wizard lvl (zombies 2 d6 (plus wizard) lvl, fourthly impact hits happen before a challenge is declared so the crypt ghast would not have died to impact, yes you can still attack while the ghast is dead because know matter what the challenge lasts until the end of the close combat phase, zombies toughness is 3, when u decline a challenge your oppenent chooses who declines
I cannot really complain since they do such an amazing job with their battle reports, but he only took the item knowing his was going to play against vanpire counts, slightly one sided.
Loved, loved, loved the report. Beautiful armies, awesome game. I don't mean to criticize, but I do believe that the Terrorgheist gets a stomp attack against the ogres. Warhammer is the game of remembering things, and I am constantly forgetting rules while playing. :)
I know I'm late to this party but I noticed that (Ogre player) said the Iron Guts and Bulls are in horde formation. Monstrous infantry need to be 6 wide to gain that benefit. Also remember your stomps and the Maw Magic Lore Attribute :)
Shoulda kept the Mortis Engine near the Crypt Horrors because the regeneration aura stacks with the horror default regen to make it regen on 4+ which increases their toughness alot. Good batrep, I enjoyed it.
After succesful restraining, the ghouls could have reformed (in bus formation) to prevent themselves from beeing flanked. This would have changed the combat by about (+1 no flank attack +2-3 for ranks + 1-2 for wound from additional attacks +1-2 less wounds from the ogres because of 1 less modell attacking = 5-8). That would have ment, that the ghoul unit would still be alive and maybe get more modells from nehek the next turn.
Great battle reports! . Really good looking armies an good fun lists (though the hell heart is just down right broken) . You forgot that the banshee causes terror, so you would have had to test for fear in the combat/challenge as long as she was alive
around 6:50 you are summoning zombies and only using one d6 to figure out how many you get. For zombies you always summon an extra d6 worth so total is 2d6+caster level. The rule for this is on the zombie page in the army book
Impact hits are distributed as shooting and thus cannot be allocated to non rank and file unless there are less than 5 models in the unit so it wouldn't have killed the ghast in the challenge.
What happened there at 19:57? Whats this sliding over thing? Wheres the rules for that in the rb? I thought you could only wheel to close the gap. It looks neat though. Could anyone point me in the right direction?
14:00 that thing the ogres used is utterly over-powered. It's a game changing item! One thing that I couldn't understand, is why Steve at Vampire turn 1 did not make his charges through the 2 big ogre units. You had them in front of you, why you chose to wait and undergo Ash's devastating charges?
How did the Ghoul King charge the Leadbelchers? I might've missed something but it didn't look like he had reformed their way and though he may be a lone character he still has a visual arc...
Invocation of Nehek; D6 Zombies (plus extra D6 as they're Zombies) PLUS Mage level, giving you a maximum of 15 summons assuming you roll 2 6s from a level 4 Wizard Ya missed out on some rotters there, buddy! Remember to add Zombies for Wizard level too
I'll be very honest here, I love this and was curious about the fantasy Warhammer since I see more of 40k and my friend would love to play it but I'm still kinda stuck on if I want to play Fantasy or 40k since both do appeal to me. I like the scifi of 40k but I'm a big fan of fantasy creatures and stuff like that. Either way I got no one to play since there is no place really close that plays the games and the one place I do know it's kinda rare to see Fantasy there anyway.
The Hunter doesn't have a bolt thrower. He has a quick to fire, 12 inch range, strength +1 (6) spear that causes D3 wounds. He can fire it after moving. You also did the Invokation of Nehek wrong. It brings back 1 plus the Wizards Level on Crypt Horrors. Not D6 wounds.
Steve, if you want to make Ash's ogres hurt, run Konrad Von Karstien, he has 6 str five WS 7 attacks that do two wounds apiece. He also has the red fury vampiric power so for every wound that he causes he gets another attack, which means that he can kill on average 3-5 ogres a turn which is not something to turn your nose at. Also, you should bring some grave guard. The killing blow is really a pain against ogre players since it automatically kills a person as well as denies armor. Give me great weapons and they will happily hack through ogres all day long at str 6
im new so sorry if its a stupid question but at 12.20 why not charge with the gouls and cryptgouls and get a charging bonus rather than getting charged next turn?
Thanks for watching guys! I try to keep up with comments and questions here on RUclips but the fastest way for me to get back to you is usually on my Facebook Page (cuz y'know... that goes to my phone). Hit me up here! facebook.com/outofthebasementintothestreets
Invocation is d6 plus your wizard level of wounds (or 2d6 plus level on zombies) I forgot how powerful hell heart is, really don't like fighting that bloody thing, lol
at about the 35 minutes mark, you IoN with your gk but dont add his level to raise im sure, you would have even gained another crypt horror back with a single wound, could make a difference for the little things like that
Well I've just started watching the video and I found an error. When you cast Nehek Invocation, you summon up D6 Zombies plus a number of Zombies equal to the mage level. Same thing with Skeletons if the Necromancer has the special rule Master of the Dead.
Another issue, and now I'm a bit confused. Is it legal to resurrect the necromancer that was killed by the warp portal generated by the miscast, using the lore attribute? I don't think that is something possible to do... When a character is dead, he's just very dead, no way to recall him from the grave, unless special rules. I would have won so many battles with this trick. Please someone tell me it's not legal xD
Ok I get it, but still I think it's illegal, when a mage is swallowed by a warp portal is removed as loss, so it's like he looses all of his remaining wounds
I'm a long time fan of the bat reps and I'm very happy they're continuing the fantasy series..... .....but at 15:36 does this guy yell "whoa! JEW!" when Steve rolls a bunch of 6's...? That's not super cool.
Hi guys, I would like to know if you have avideo where you explain how make a tabletop like yours or if it's bought, I would like to find someone or even make one. Thanks! :)
I normally do not complain fault for not knowing the rules but this time if failed many and in my opinion ash made couple of strategic mistakes that would have changed the end of the battle but nice video
Aux BigLikeHorse i think it may have been used wrong o.O. reading the entry in the army book... Hellheart: one use only. the hellheart can be used at the start of one of the opposing sides magic phases, immediately after rolling for the winds of magic. (this is where it gets dodgy i think). all enemy wizards within D6'' x 5 of the bearer must roll on the miscast table. Special rules or magic items that affect a normal miscast roll can be used against miscasts caused by the hellheart. After resolving all miscasts, add an extra dispel dice to the ogre's pool for each enemy wizard that was forced to roll on the miscast table. in this game i believe the ogre player made the enemy necros roll on the table, then AGAIN when they tried to cast a spell, and also i didnt notice him adding the free dispel dice to his pool.
madmeddik the additional miscast was due to an irresistible force spell being cast. The only spell he got off was IF, so couldn't be dispelled (no need for extra dispel dice). It was used accurately (and to devastating effect).
Francis Boylan my comment was more of a "fun fact", and i might have pointed to the ogres and not the ghouls, as i first thought you talked about the ogres. which is my fault, should've made the connection :P
The sword he gave him gives him the scream, frenzy, and devastating charge. I'm in bed and don't want to get up to look at the book for proper spelling.
Whenever Ash says Zambies, it drives me fucking insane.
Beautifully painted Vampire Counts and nice showing of many different models and options.
As always GREAT WHFB battle report! So jealous we cant have more Ash for 40k battle reports.
Bug Matt in his Sit and Talks. :)

If the lead belchers aren't in his arc, you don't get to charge. (No, being a solo model doesn't give you 360 viewing arc.
Another great batrep. A few rules wrong here and there, but hey, there are a lot of rules, so it's totally expected. Great job guys!
such an awesome game - I love how quickly things can turn around in fantasy!
Steve needs to do a 2 terror gheist build with someone riding the other one. Would be pretty epic! Pretty sure Impact Hits never go into the challenge - they're always done before combat starts and onto the unit. Then challenges are issued
Also if someone dies in a challange, you do not move up the model behind them until the next combat turn (if someone had died). Not that it mattered to much here being that you are ogres... but something that is not a medium base and gets multiple attacks only still gets one until the next turn when it can shimmy up.

pg 103: if an enemy is killed before all of a model's attacks are made than any excess attacks are lost.
you're right about everything else though.
Impact hits are resolved as shooting attacks cannot go into challenge. Stomp carries over in challenge if he isnt already dead.
I cannot really complain since they do such an amazing job with their battle reports, but he only took the item knowing his was going to play against vanpire counts, slightly one sided.

This was awesomely back and forth!
I know I'm late to this party but I noticed that (Ogre player) said the Iron Guts and Bulls are in horde formation. Monstrous infantry need to be 6 wide to gain that benefit. Also remember your stomps and the Maw Magic Lore Attribute :)
This is the 3rd Fantasy army that I've seen Stave play. He must be an ultimate collector
Shoulda kept the Mortis Engine near the Crypt Horrors because the regeneration aura stacks with the horror default regen to make it regen on 4+ which increases their toughness alot. Good batrep, I enjoyed it.
Great battle, enjoyed it very much. Loved the screaming, cause I also use them vamps. :-)
Dude, the new turn dice is amazing! :D
Thanks man. I made that dice years ago thinking "Well... I'll never accidentally pick it up..."
For Invocation of Nehek you get D6 + caster level models back. Not a big deal if you only have Level 1's... but its a nice little bonus
After succesful restraining, the ghouls could have reformed (in bus formation) to prevent themselves from beeing flanked. This would have changed the combat by about (+1 no flank attack +2-3 for ranks + 1-2 for wound from additional attacks +1-2 less wounds from the ogres because of 1 less modell attacking = 5-8).

. You forgot that the banshee causes terror, so you would have had to test for fear in the combat/challenge as long as she was alive
Awesome video, please get orc & goblin army in the mix it would be very much enjoyable. I play night goblins myself.
I like how the ogre mount is so massive there is no way for the ogre to hit anything with the weapons he has.
around 6:50 you are summoning zombies and only using one d6 to figure out how many you get. For zombies you always summon an extra d6 worth so total is 2d6+caster level. The rule for this is on the zombie page in the army book
and so for 3:41 you would have gotten back an extra crypt horror with 1 wound
Impact hits are distributed as shooting and thus cannot be allocated to non rank and file unless there are less than 5 models in the unit so it wouldn't have killed the ghast in the challenge.
page 102: challenges happen before blows are struck, but after impact hits.
What happened there at 19:57? Whats this sliding over thing? Wheres the rules for that in the rb? I thought you could only wheel to close the gap. It looks neat though. Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Rear Charge is 3 on the 1st turn of combat, you still get the +1 for the new charge.
Might be going full nerd here, but I would love if you guys could post the stats, army lists and even probabilities before you roll...
+Andrea Peverelli except the item is to counter heavy caster armies, plus he placed them right in the core.......so......
How did the Ghoul King charge the Leadbelchers?
I might've missed something but it didn't look like he had reformed their way and though he may be a lone character he still has a visual arc...
You only need 100 points for a victory now, also dangerous terrain tests are nedded when fleeing through enemy units
I've noticed one thing watching this video, Ogres are a lot like Tyranid Monstrous Creatures... Ogres vs Tyranids could be really fun.
Thank you for bringing a Tyrant General, I've gotten so tired of seeing the Lvl 4 Slaughtermaster General. A fighty ogre lord is so refreshing.
I'm still getting back in the swing of Ogres... and when Steve said he was bringing Undead all I could think was... I need a Ld 9 General...
I play O&G, I know the importance of a high leadership general.
csmigs87 Unless you bring unbreakable Steam Tanks! You'll get this joke when you see next week's episode. ;)
Turn 2 was just brutal.
Invocation of Nehek; D6 Zombies (plus extra D6 as they're Zombies) PLUS Mage level, giving you a maximum of 15 summons assuming you roll 2 6s from a level 4 Wizard
Ya missed out on some rotters there, buddy! Remember to add Zombies for Wizard level too
One thing on early, when using IoN on zombies you get 2d6 plus caster level back.
Also never charge a terrorgheist into combat and when the mortis engine dies it explodes
Steve forgot to roll feed for every wound ghoul king inflicted.
This was a great video, but there were a lot of stats/spells that were miscalculated which included the Invocations and a Terrorgheist scream.
I'll be very honest here, I love this and was curious about the fantasy Warhammer since I see more of 40k and my friend would love to play it but I'm still kinda stuck on if I want to play Fantasy or 40k since both do appeal to me. Either way I got no one to play since there is no place really close that plays the games and the one place I do know it's kinda rare to see Fantasy there anyway.
horde formations for LG bases(ogres) is 6 wide. FYI
Thanks guys!
You can upgrade a hunter to have a harpoon launcher for free which is for all aspects except name a bolt thrower.
Give me great weapons and they will happily hack through ogres all day long at str 6
killing blow only works against infantry, cavalry, and war beasts.
im new so sorry if its a stupid question but at 12.20 why not charge with the gouls and cryptgouls and get a charging bonus rather than getting charged next turn?
Aren't rear charges worth +3 to combat resolution? Not that it really matters
the background music make me want to play Gladius again
I know, right!? :D
Loved that game to death
Why did you not do the screaming attack from the Skcarbath sword on the Ghoul King?!
And the Banshee scream!
Also the Unit that receives regeneration until the next movement phase. :)
May I ask who painted the Ogres? is it commissioned? they look absolutely amazing. Both armies in fact.
The ogres are mine. You'll never (unless I have to) see me play an army I didn't paint. :)
*****
Great paint job on them buddy
TheDeadEyeWolf Thanks man! They're one of my favourites. Got some Mournfang Cav (2 units) in the works for them right now. :)
Thanks for watching guys! I try to keep up with comments and questions here on RUclips but the fastest way for me to get back to you is usually on my Facebook Page (cuz y'know... that goes to my phone). Hit me up here! facebook.com/outofthebasementintothestreets
heads up zombies are Str 3 Tough 3
The Strigoi Ghoul King is my favorite Vampire
Impact hits happen before the challenge. So the champ would not have died before the challenge.
Shouldn't the Tyrants unit taken a panic check due to losing 33% of his unit in the last VC turn?
I really want to see some warriors of chaos in one of these videos
Invocation is d6 plus your wizard level of wounds (or 2d6 plus level on zombies)
I forgot how powerful hell heart is, really don't like fighting that bloody thing, lol
How much does your average 1500 point fantasy army cost?
Why didn't the ghouls get their regeneration saves against the iron guts?
The Mortis Engine conferred the regeneration save. It had been destroyed earlier in the game.
I see. I thought ghouls got their own regeneration save
Is it just me, or are the screaming-attacks close to being imbalanced (at least against ogres)?
Ray's dead? I didn't even know he was ill
always wanted to play these board role play games... looks hard to set up.
Warhammer is not a role play game Its a wargame
fan boi
Brandyn fan boiii
How Can you play the warhammer and not be a fan boy it Costs at least 1000 us dollars to get a normal army painted
is it reallyh that expensive?
the charging man-eaters at the 30 min mark shouldnt have got impact hits...
why? ogres always get impact hits when they charge...
invocation of Nehek raises 2d6+caster level Zombies!
So no one plays Chaos hey :(
Ash, them ogres be beauteous!!!
Thanks man! :D
err... impact hits can't be done against characters in the unit unless there's no more guys in the unit. The ghast wouldn't be dead just because.
Turn 1 vamps - Mortis engine regen bubble....?
Great game, gotta love those vampires!!!
great stuff
it amazed me how people can spend their time
Genesis Delagon its a hobby mate. lighten up
Giantbreaker needs a giant.........or so I thought.
at about the 35 minutes mark, you IoN with your gk but dont add his level to raise im sure, you would have even gained another crypt horror back with a single wound, could make a difference for the little things like that
That hell heart item is broken. Damn x.x
Well I've just started watching the video and I found an error. When you cast Nehek Invocation, you summon up D6 Zombies plus a number of Zombies equal to the mage level. Same thing with Skeletons if the Necromancer has the special rule Master of the Dead.

Pietro Figura He weren't killed because he got a wound back so he went up to 2 wounds
Ok I get it, but still I think it's illegal, when a mage is swallowed by a warp portal is removed as loss, so it's like he looses all of his remaining wounds
He was killed but not the other one becuase he was healed
Zombies gain an extra D6 on top of the D6 that are raised from invocation, for a total of 2D6+ wizard level
That miscast item is utter bs
Mini Moshi it is, it utterly is. But I laugh every time it’s used. Though it gets shit because d6 x5 inches
what paint do you use for the ogre flesh?
I'm a long time fan of the bat reps and I'm very happy they're continuing the fantasy series.....
.....but at 15:36 does this guy yell "whoa! JEW!" when Steve rolls a bunch of 6's...?
That's not super cool.
He actually says "Whoa, L'kat'cu" as in Whoa, look at you." He just shortened and didn't enunciate his phrasing.
read the rulez...
The scream mechanic seems a little broken
Hi guys, I would like to know if you have avideo where you explain how make a tabletop like yours or if it's bought, I would like to find someone or even make one. Thanks! :)
the mat they are playing on is purchased from frontline gaming, not sure about the scenery
I normally do not complain fault for not knowing the rules but this time if failed many and in my opinion ash made couple of strategic mistakes that would have changed the end of the battle but nice video
no rank bonus if there's a unit in your flank or rear
I believe that according to the BRB, this is only true if the attacking unit has 2 or more ranks of 5+ models....
yep, my mistake.
Love the Armies!!!
whatever that hellstone fucking thing was was pretty OP
It was used accurately (and to devastating effect).
that would do it... i stand corrected o.O
models making supporting attacks are limited to one attack!
monstrous infantery can make up to 3 supporting attacks
yes indeed they can but ghouls are normal infantry not monstrous infantry!
Francis Boylan Ghouls were in horde formation though!
That doesn't change the supporting attacks rule. The alteration is it allows one more rank than normal to fight.
Francis Boylan
my comment was more of a "fun fact", and i might have pointed to the ogres and not the ghouls, as i first thought you talked about the ogres. which is my fault, should've made the connection :P
How do great weapons work
Great weapons add 2 strength to your unit's regular strength value, but also gives "Always Strikes Last", which is self-explanatory
Ghoul king scream ?
The sword he gave him gives him the scream, frenzy, and devastating charge. I'm in bed and don't want to get up to look at the book for proper spelling.
