Fun Fact: In 1940 the Soviet Union asked Germany to join the Axis and Hitler never responded and ended up invading then. Funny and scary that could’ve happened
you have to remember, the Soviets were starving, with dwindling supplies, the US sent extreme amounts of goods, I could recommend a documentary that talks all about how US manufacturing kind of saved the war effort
You said that you didn't want to be told which territories you missed at the start of ww2 but I am going to ignore that and say that Nepal joined ww2 three days after it started.
A missed opportunity here was an Afghan invasion of British Raj. Afghanistan used to be a British colony, but they revolted in 1919 and declared their independence, and bad blood between them remained. In the late 1920s, there was a civil war in Afghanistan and the Soviets aided the winning side, creating good relations between them. Germany also made plans to help Afghanistan invade the Raj during World War II. Since the Soviets were at war with Britain, they could ask their Afghan friends to invade the Raj and could have sent Central Asian forces to help. The Soviets, as supporters of third world national liberation, could have then also backed Indian independence groups and the Raj would have fallen with a lot of casualties on both sides.
I think in real life this might have been a draw or a mild axis victory because 1. Britain wouldn't surrender to Germany and since operation Sealion would likely still be impossible they wouldn't even think about it. 2. America would never let the European powers fall to Germany because it benefits them so America would find some reason to join the war
a soviet german alliance would mean quick defeat for most of europe, i don’t know what you mean when you say the us wouldn’t let other european powers fall, the us had a hard time fighting germany alone, imagine germany and the soviets, how would the us be able to defend any of those european countries
Love this vid glad your still doing mapping love it my only complaint is that china is just roc and Tibet since there was cliques and the prc and menkukou aswell as several territories held by Japan also what about tana tuva I would suggest using hoi4 to make these and I’m sorry ik i sound like a hater but I promise I love your content I’m just a bit annoyed by this but you videos are hope u continue your trend ❤❤
I want to make some corrections, not to criticise the video, but to improve videos in future. The Soviets would never be allowed into the Axis. Hitler's main ideological goal from the start was to genocide the Slavic people (AKA the Soviets.) In fact, shortly before Hitler attacked them, Stalin requested the be incorporated into the Axis, but his request was ignored and he never got any response. When Czechoslovakia was invaded and defeated by Germany, Hungary got involved, taking parts of Slovakia's far East and being the first Axis member that wasn't Germany, Italy or Japan. As well as this, Slovakia was puppeted by Germany after they lost. Italy only joined the war while France was on the verge of collapse. When the war started, Mussolini stated that Italy would join the war at "an opportune moment" and, therefore, only joined while France was collapsing to avoid the consequences that'd come from joining sooner. After Italy joined the war, they were actually successful in capturing Somaliland and Djibouti, due to limited allied troops in the area. The area around Ethiopia only began to be invaded in 1941. In a similar vein, Libya only collapsed to allied troops in 1943. After Denmark was taken, Britain occupied their colony of Iceland, while the US occupied Greenland. Bulgaria did not join the Axis on their own, they were pressured into joining the war along with Yugoslavia so German troops could use them to march into Greece. Yugoslavia did initially join the war on the side of the Axis for about 4 days, before a military coup destroyed the old government and joined the Allies, where they were subsequently destroyed. Additionally, this all happened after the fall of France. Before Romania joined the Axis, they were bullied by them and the Soviets for a bit, with Hungary taking Transylvania and the Soviets taking Moldavia. The island you coloured in at 5:32 is a part of Venezuela. Soon after the fall of Greece, Iraq joined the Axis after electing a fascist government, but were quickly defeated by the British. After the fall of France, their colonies, for the most part, did not immediately pledge allegiance to Free France, as the idea did not yet exist, it took 2 months for any colonies (Central Africa and Cameroon) to pledge allegiance. It took until the end of 1942 before Algeria and French west Africa joined the Allies again. Similarly, after the fall of Belgium and the Netherlands, their colonies were directed annexed by Germany. Even if the colonies did immediately join the Allies again, there is no chance Germany would allow their independence. Germany's aims in Africa were 1) to form the Mittelafrica proposal from the Berlin Conference 2) take back their colonies from before WWI and 3) to turn as much as the continent as possible into slave states and giant plantations to fuel the Reich. Meanwhile, Italy wanted to take all of North Africa, as well as connect it to their colonies in and around Ethiopia to form a Neo-Roman Empire. Additionally, Egypt had already gained independence from the UK, being essentially a puppet of the Empire. This, however, does not mean that the people would defend against the independence movement, as the nation was already trying to move itself away from the Empire as much as possible. I would argue that, provided it had guaranteed independence, Egypt would willingly give itself over to the Axis troops. It wouldn't matter if the Soviets were already in the Axis or not, the Germans would absolutely accept Japan into the Axis, as it would provide a better vantage point and/or a distraction for Hitler's planned invasion of the US. Furthermore, Hitler's main ideological goal from the start was to attack the Soviets, meaning that, even if the alliance with the Soviets happened, Germany would plan to betray them in the end, making Japan very advantageous to have in the Axis for an invasion of Russia's far-East. Japan never invaded Thailand. Thailand """willingly""" joined the GEACPS to assist Japan, mainly because they were scared of them. Germany could never succeed in Operation Sealion. They had a number of military tests to see what what happen, and the furthest they ever got up to was the Midlands. I can see the reasoning that, it being 1946, the Germans would be in a significantly more powerful position, while the British are far weaker. However, in your situation, the British colonies are still entirely intact. With no Soviet Union, Germany would have attacked British colonies with the same ferocity that was seen during Operation Barbarossa and, I do not believe that Britain, especially in Africa, could hold on to their colonies. Additionally, the Raj already wanted independence and, at the point you're saying here, were only 1 year away from gaining it. This means that Britian's only remaining colonies would be Canada (which could have been attacked by the Soviets in this timeline) and Australia/New Zealand (on the opposite side of the planet. Germany never wanted to annex France, they knew that, even in a best case scenario, France would still be a huge pain and rebellious province for Germany. It is, therefore, likely that they would only take some North-Eastern lands and lands around Belgium, while Italy took Corsica and the area surrounding Nice. 11:09 Angola was Portuguese. The British Isles would not actually be broken up as badly as presented here. Hitler saw them as near equals to the Aryan race, and would therefore likely just puppet the country and give unite Ireland. Germany would likely never create nukes. Hitler saw nuclear science as "Jewish science" and banned development of it. I hope this helps for future WWII related content for this channel
I do agree with most of the video, the few things I disagree with is 1: Italy still holding on to Libya, the French and British would've absolutely pummeled the Italian forces in Libya. 2: The French not invading Northern Italy while the Italians were busy with Italian Libya. 3: The invasion of Great Britain, the British would yes might fight a formidable force against the Germans, and Soviets, but Naval wise the Brits would absolutely destroy and Naval force that got sent their way. Yes obviously 1-3 years for the Germans, and Soviets to prepare a navy is a long time. But they still would be no match against the British Navy, The Worlds best Navy at the Time, also Aerial the Brits too would've still stomped the Soviets and Germans. Yes the Soviets had the worlds best Air force, but their Planes, severely lacking technologically wise. Sorry for the complete rant. The video was still amazing though, and I hope the West Indies are treating you nicely! 🎉🎉
What you said at the start is kind of incorrect. Communism and fascism are technically both opposite sides of the spectrum. However, the spectrum works like a circle - the more extreme you get on both sides, the more the sides become more similar to each other. For example, both the Nazis and the Soviets had concentration camps, they both were ruled by dictators and both Stalin and Hitler were very similar in the way they went about their business. They were both totalitarian states.
Do Operation Unthinkable, Allied invasion right after Germany surrenders
