You say it takes a while to skip tracks but to me that seems like a fairly standard if not above average speed for track skipping. Especially for that laser mechanism design.
Great video. I think I may have the same issue with my Luxman DZ-03. It would start playing a disc and then begin skipping tracks. I took it apart cleaned the rails and verified the laser went up and down and the laser was moving as you demonstrated. After about 5mins injected the disc and reinserted it and it just sat on track 1 without playing it. That controller chip was red hot to the touch. Where did you buy it from as I assume they are the same?
Not likely the chip has failed as it wouldn’t do anything most likely… unless the connectors had been previously incorrectly plugged in then its likely dead, they normally run hot which is surprising… It may just need a calibration or the laser could be on the way out. Sounds like calibration though.
Believe it or not the worm gear binds when hitting stop. I use my finger to move it and it works fine. So I put double sided tape, three layers about 5mm total thickness, between the motor and the laser. Since doing that the CD player works fine. I did this after making this initial post.
Iam a subscriber of your channel . Video is amazing. I have a luxman d 105 u , previous version. Cd not spinning. Recapped the power supply and main pcb .Can you advise how to rectify this issue?

I would be checking for power at the spindle motor otherwise it could be the driver :(
