  • Scientists have found and filmed one of the greatest ever undiscovered shipwrecks 107 years after it sank.
The Endurance, the lost vessel of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, was found at the weekend at the bottom of the Weddell Sea.
The ship was crushed by sea-ice and sank in 1915, forcing Shackleton and his men to make an astonishing escape on foot and in small boats.
Video of the remains show Endurance to be in remarkable condition.

The Endurance did not reach land, as it became trapped in dense pack ice. After they were stuck in the ice for 10 months, the 28 men on board were forced to eventually abandon ship. They escaped in lifeboats and on foot.
Capt. Frank Worsley marked down the coordinates where it sank. The Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust said these played a key role in the discovery of the vessel.

Good to know Capt. Worsley’s Records were still on the mark and part of the find-thank you for relaying-appreciate that a great deal (my childhood was greatly impacted by my mother sharing the story of the unbelievable saga that was the Shackleton Expedition with be in a definitive book about it-can’t remember title-and then she & I going on to read any & everything on it we could ever get our hands on together after that). It’s a big part of me, and I still think about it very, very often). Awesome to know that super interesting fact. It says alot. Thanks again.

Frank Worsley - the guy who navigated a tiny lifeboat to South Georgia, a micro speck in the vast south atlantic. I figured we could rely on his location for the wreck. Shackelton was probably the best leader of men in history - Frank Worsley, probably the best navigator...

The Shackleton expedition almost hasta be whispered when talking about it if one knows the story-deep reverence for the entire crew & their towering endeavor is all I could imagine anyone feeling whenever they first do. One of thee most harrowing, shocking, tragic, amazing, intense tales of exploration of all time. Hard to find one more outrageously packed full of action, adventure, horror, heroism, suffering, & triumph. And the Antarctic waters finally surrender the legendary Endurance. What a red letter day of massive historical consequence. Well done finding her, seamen and scientists. WELL Done. A slice of history that should be always remembered (so good thing it’s so unforgettable. If you’ve never heard of it-hold on to yer schnutz and dive in to any of the great books about it. Looks in good condition and its great to see the history of this ship. Over 100 years old thats a new record for a shipwreck. Wow 👏

That's not even close to a record for a shipwreck.

Have you seen some of the shipwrecks that they've been able to find in anoxic seas around Europe? There's some fascinating stuff from the Black and Baltic seas. The Vasa comes to mind as an incredible story of an old preserved shipwreck.

I‘m glad that the wreck is protected, a historic artefact such as this should never be moved, it would only lead to destruction

How are you and your family doing hope you've all been vaccinated. With this medium, I pray we get along well at our convenience, as I don't want to be seen as a superstar but as a commoner in the society.

Amazing to see something that was built so long ago.

Amazing shape in the cold water.
Same with the 60 year older Franklin ships dives. things still in the cupboards , guns still on wall gun racks and furniture in place, doors still hung along the hallway .
      Look that dive tour up.
