    Your explanation of how and why you do the cutting out step by step is spot on. Many people would cut it all out blindly and then scratch their head trying to figure out how to get it back together, so a logical explanation should help clear it up for a few people if they listen. I am sure with your bodywork skills you can make the patch panels look every bit as good as a whole new floor panel. This said these people that just cut out everything and replace it don't end up with the original vehicle. Why not buy a new body shell?. Back in 1992 I restored a 65 Mustang and used Waxoyl to protect it. I flooded every box section and also drilled many drain holes to prevent water staying in the structure. Its now 30 years later and this year I have had to go over a few areas and re-do some stuff, so you are bang on with the 30 year life between "restorations"

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  Год назад +4

      Good question! Depends on what it's going on and where the panels came from. It used to be that every aftermarket panel had to be stripped to bare metal and reprimed. Now most panels come with a better quality protective primer that, in theory can just be scuffed, primed with sealer and painted. A good test is to take some lacquer thinner on a rag and wipe the panel. If the primer starts to come off on the rag, then it needs to be sanded to bare metal.
      That being said, on a full restoration, I've always sanded the outside of all panels down to bare steel because they usually require some cutting and welding to fit properly and bodywork or high build primer and block sanding to get straight enough for a nice paint job.

      Thanks, I'd say you folks out east have a lot worse rust than we do here!

    Love this build but then again my daily is a 64 C10 and I just scored a 60 Apache c30. Live in Alaska so our older trucks are in the same condition. Thanks for your knowledge and willingness to share

    Great job, considering how rotten this truck was, you should be proud of saving a classic truck to pass on to someone else and lets get your channel more subscribers, good luck

    thank you for the incredible fabrication because . . . . . i might have thought it was a cooking channel "with the big fire" and the hog cobblery , did have to pause the video for a pizza and a beer - if i wasn't out of popcorn it would have been a movie extravaganza ... ha ha (lighting the shirt on fire never gets old)

    Love the way you fixed it…..many ways to fix rust! No two trucks are alike, heck most times these old girl didn’t match side to side when the General welded them up. This was a great example of a good fix. Good Job !

    Great job. Just starting on my 66. I do have rust above the windshield but inside is not that bad. Still wish it looked like yours. Looking forward for part 2 . Thanks for posting .

    Great job, you make it look so easy. I apricate your instructions on just tack welding until it is all right. I will have to do the cab corners and the rocker panels on my 76 Chevy Scottsdale.
