    Thank you for posting these longer fishing videos. Personally I watch them in several sittings, returning every time they offer more enjoyment than is available from the videos offered by the RUclips algorithm. In this way I can get a whole day of enjoyment from a sport that I can no longer afford to participate in. Thanks for your excellent contributions to our beloved activities of fly-tying and fishing

    Great Sunday morning on the Doon. Lovely looking beat, very well maintained.
    I imagine it will be good for Salmon at the back end. Thanks for taking us along on your wonderful fishing trips. Cheers

    absolutely lovely fishing videos; Davie is a wonderful guide and I love his demeanor. I am Peter Donna's husband who used to ty flies and fish all over Maine river and ponds;
    but I am disabled now but want to start fly tying again. I will have to start over as I gave my whole set up and Pamola vice it is an older and beautiful rotary vice with all my kit and feathers
    to my nephew who loves it.

    As a retired ex-pat living in Australia, you're killing me with beautiful memories. After a days fishing, sitting on the bank with a hot cup of tea with a dash of the amber and yes, a quiet cigarette. Arh yesteryear.

      No Cuban cigars , about 2 hrs before the night sulpher hatch, i sit down and light up and just watch the stream, 2 years ago i had a night i will never forget. I started to see a few rises, i caught 2 nice fish, as i changed my fly i looked up stream ,i actually thought it was raining. All i seen were rises everywhere behind me inn front of me, up stream i never experienced anything like this ever. I been fishing a long time, i was amazed that, there can be that many fish in a stream, i couldn't figure out what the were feeding on. As i put my light on to change the fly, the mayflies attacked it they were in my hat in my pockets. They were so thick like a cloud almost, my last fly was a cdc dun mayfly size #12 first cast a hookup nice fish. I think i got lucky was not what they were feeding on, had plenty of samples though, lol. I am in NJ, as i went to a few shops to find out what these were , it was a isoynchia bio color but it only comes out every 3 years its color is different from the regular isoynchias, we see regularly in late summer, from the info i got from asking. **This one goes in the journal night to remember.

    Another fine video, Davie. I’m interested in your left-hand techniques for line-control. Since this is usually just out of camera shot, I wonder if during one of your next videos you could spend a moment or two showing us some of those retroeve techiques? Many thanks again for posting such wonderful content.

    Another really helpful video Davie...thank you.
    Can I ask if you use a 4wt line on the Cadence rod or slightly overweight it with a 5wt line? Presumably you are using a WF rather than a DT?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi @francismead1399,
      I've not tried a heavier line on the 4wt rod I used in the video though I have done this on other rods in the past. I do use WF lines now rather than the old DT which I used to love using...
      All the very best Davie

    Wonderful day on the water. Question - Could you show us a time/conditions when you decide to swing wet flies rather than fish the dry or dry/dropper?

  • @JohnSmith-fw5dm

    Mesmerising video, Davie. Would you fish the wets down and across or upstream?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Год назад +1

      Hi John,
      I would try fishing the wets both ways though I like to fish them slightly up and then bring the rod towards the bank keeping in touch with them as I've hooked a lot more fish doing this over the years..I'm glad you enjoyed the video..
      All the very best Davie...

    Trout video i know but ,can I ask... ,What is you're most successful salmon fly ? Thank you

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Год назад +2

      Hi Keith,
      It's a split between a Willie Gunn and a Red Devil as I've caught on both in the same day though one will out fish the other now and then..When we used to have reasonable runs of fish I would on average catch around 30 plus a season now you are lucky if you catch 3 fish in a season.. I tye them on alloy and copper tubes from 1/4 inch up and I always like a fire orange or red head on them..
      All the very best Davie.
