- The third composition in Flamenco Classics series is Alegrias de maestro Sabicas. I am personally attached to this composition since it is the one that opened the door to the magical world of flamenco music to me.
Sabicas, Agustín Castellón Campos (1912 - 1990) is the one of the most important flamenco guitarists and composers. He was born in Pamplona and during the Spanish Civil War, in 1967 he left his home town for Mexico City where he he performed with Carmen Amaya, one of the most famous flamenco dancers. Few years later he moved to New York where he lived until his death.
Sabicas introduced the art of flamenco to audiences outside of Spain and the Spanish-speaking world. He was probably best known for his technical skills: blazingly fast picados (scales), fast arpeggios, quality composition for the many forms of flamenco, and infallible rhythm, which was critical when playing with a dancer. He was also considered to have perfect pitch.
Sabicas was the one of flamenco's greatest guitarists but also was important as a composer. He played flamenco at a previously unimaginable level and created new techniques, opening up new possibilities for the solo instrument. He brought his art to concert halls and major theaters, making it available to all classes. Modern players such as Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, Serranito, René Heredia, Juan Manuel Cañizares, El Viejín, Vicente Amigo, Gerardo Nuñez, Javier Conde and many more acknowledge the great influence of Sabicas's music.
I am dedicating this performance to my mentor Sanel Sabitovic, composer and guitarist with unique style, to whom I owe most of my guitar knowledge.
The sound is recorded live with DPA 4099 microphone.

Please don't nod no while you play. It's a bad habit. Some of the falsetas are wrong. Your technique is very good.
Thanks. Well, nodding is someting that comes naturaly and I can’t control it while playing 🤷🏻♂️ are you sure about the wrong falsetas? Which ones you think are wrong?
@@MirzaRedzepagic There are about 10 or 12 parts, may be more. But these are easy to fix if you get it from others playing it or get the tablatures.
@@ugaugauga488I’ve learned this piece from the score that is published with the revision by Sabicas himself 🤷🏻♂️
@@MirzaRedzepagic You were sold a fake or something, and Sabicas could not read it or have someone read it. And, I have notation that is correct and does not have these mistakes. I recommend that you watch others playing it. I think that Russian dude Grisha? he plays it very close, almost there. I don't mean to be negative; I just want to respond.
I actually like your version better than Grisha's. He plays too fast sometimes. Your tempo is just right!!
