  • Welcome back my friends.
    Today, I'm happy to share the next steps in our MR Slotcar race prep journey - blueprinting and assembly of this awesome MR Slotcar 1/32 McLaren F1 GTR white kit.
    As many of you may be aware, I am getting ready to race at the MR Slotcar Challenge race at Electric Dreams in El Segundo, November 4th and 5th. We're not too far out, so it's time to hit the turbo and get this car done! If you're interested in learning more about the race, you can keep an eye out on www.electricdreams.com, or email the shop for rules and costs. It will be attended by Ernie Mossetti, the owner of MR Slotcar, and is going to be a fun event.
    In this video, I will walk you through the parts I'm using on this car, along with their part numbers and I have even included links to some of the parts below to make it easy. The goal of this video is to show you how I approach the middle part of the build here where I am beginning to add parts, assembly the slot car, and make sure that everything fits like it should. I also use this opportunity to make sure I know what spacers, tolerances, and parts I will need for the final assembly.
    Here's a list of the parts I mention in this video:
    1. MR Slotcar MR2202 - Wood Track Version Guide
    2. SlotingPlus SP151312 M2 Stainless Steel Lock Nut
    3. SlotingPlus SP153306 - Conical Head Screw Inox
    4. MRSLOTCAR MR7052 Ergal Aluminum Wheels 16.5 X 8.2mm - 3/32" Axle
    5. MR SLOTCAR MR7022 ARIA WHEELS ‘ERGAL’ 15.8 X 10.2 'AIR RIMS
    6. MR SLOTCAR MR6627R 15.5MM ERGAL ANGLEWINDER GEAR, 27T
    7. SlotingPlus SP041055 55mm Calibrated 3/32 Axle
    I'm looking forward to finishing this series off with 2 more videos about the final assembly with tires, and the last video about finishing off the McLaren F1 GTR White body.
    I hope this video is helpful to those who are looking to participate in the race, and if you're just a casual observer I hope this helps you understand some of the things I do to make a slot car faster.
    Got some ideas for a video you'd like to see? Let me know in the comments section!
    Thanks!
    - Ian

      Ian using the front tires as a height point is different then what is popular. Most people say the front tired should barely touch. Can you talk about that ?

    • @jonanolakers1567
      @jonanolakers1567 8 месяцев назад

      @@larrycariglio909 my guess is that spacers possibly induces play, potentially causing deslots. Another benefit is that is makes it easier to adjust front ride height.
      One major drawback is that it reduces the depth of the guide, mening that the guide has to move less vertically to cause a deslot. I believe this is one of the respons that we saw the front of the Mclaren seem unstable in the race, and might have been the deciding factor between a win ans a second place

    Ian, your video seres is on point & on time. I am doing the Jim Rose, Slim Can Conversion for MRSLOTCAR McLaren build so this is icing on the cake for me! Thank You, thank you, thank you! And for my first question; why did you pick the 7052 front wheels and not something lighter and or smaller like the; MRSLOTCAR MR7021 Ergal Aluminum Wheels 'ARIA' Air Ride System - 15.8 X 8.2mm - 3/32" Axle? Thank you for your time and help. Ian, 1/32 plastic cars are new to me. I started slot cars back in the mid 60's and stoped when Slot Car Junction went out of existence, so 1/32 could be my come back! PS I watched a new Y/T video to day about NSR brushless motors and the guy in the video said that Paul G. has been in Arizona working on his brushless Slot Cars! I haven't seen Paul, since 2018 or so and his name comes up in a Slot Car video today Lol...

      Man, SCJ. That brings back memories. I remember going there for Norcal IMCA back in the 90s - that was a throwback! I DID end up going with the 15.8x8.2 fronts because the larger fronts actually were too big! I just never updated the video - so great question. We had to run MR front and rear wheels - so we had some limitations. I tend to run the 15.8 fronts on most cars, but may start running slightly larger if the ride height permits just because the baby sized wheels look so bad! I have a Sideways AMR GT and it *needs* bigger wheels or else it looks ridiculous. I'm glad that the videos are helpful! The fact that it helps people is why I do it, and just helps energize me to do more :)

    Very interesting stuff. I'm just a year or so into the hobby. You seem to have a large inventory of spacers, screws, nuts, washers, etc. Is that something you have just accumulated over time, or can you actually purchase assortments of these things? Thanks and looking forward to more videos.

    • @idwurks

      Hey Randy - I tend to go a bit ham when those things are in the counter in front of me. I just started racing 1/32 in 2021/22 so I have been collecting parts. If I need a part, I'll usually buy a few just in case - especially bags of spacers and screws. I always give that stuff away at the track so it ends up emptying fast! I would recommend checking out SlotingPlus as they carry a HUGE amount of spacers, screws, nuts - All incredibly high quality. Good luck with your racing and thanks for the comment!

    Nice video bit different to how i tend to do things but all valid opinions. An option for you regarding motor security. Why do you choose to glue the motor and not use screws to secure it. If youre potentially concerned by it pivoting on the screw end and moving at the comm end of the motor. You can use fibre reinforced tape to secure the motor .

    • @idwurks
      @idwurks  7 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you. Using the b7000 glue for the motor is due to a few reasons - 1) tape of any kind is not allowed on the pod or chassis at Electric dreams. 2) the b7000 provides some dampening as it’s not totally rigid, and 3) it can be cut easily and cleans up nicely :)

    Generally speaking what is the distance you like for your front tire to be off the track?

    • @idwurks
      @idwurks  4 месяца назад +1

      We run the front tires on the track. So the car is (for the most part) contacting the track at 5 points - the guide/braid, the front tires, and the rear tires. We also true our front tires to be perfectly round. We tend to like a level chassis front to back to be neutral handling.
