Full coverage of the men's lightweight double sculls rowing final from Eton Dorney as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games,
Rowing has been staged at all the editions of the Olympic Games, except in 1896 in Athens. It was, however, on the programme, but a stormy sea compelled the organisers to cancel the events.
Women made their debut at the Games in 1976 in Montreal. They competed in a smaller programme. The Olympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta marked the introduction of the lightweight events.

I think the rule which make restart the race is totally absurd : at this level, they got to check hours during the boat, the settings, the oars. So breaking stuff is unacceptable. Cheating or not, this rule must be deleted. And I'm so sad about jeremie and stany who headed the race at the first start !
You never know what can happen, I’ve had a seat shoot off in the middle of a race as well. It’s a good, smart, and safe rule

I dunno about international rules, but for school's racing on New Zealand, if you have an equipment failure in the first 250m the race restarts, but not after that

Hats of to the Danish team, it was so intense that I was jumping off my seat, more than the GB ! I am no history expert, but weren`t Scandinavian Vikings excellent in rowing, legendary, that is ? They have it in their blood, it is genetics ! Sailing, building the best boats and ships...It may have something to do with this excellent and clever performance, or I might be badly mistaking - no offense to anyone...
You're correct. Idk if its in the blood but the Danes used to raid, settle and conquer parts of the UK in the viking age :)

GB lost that for themselves. Some horrible rowing from what is typically thought to be a good technical crew. Even in the first start where their seat "broke" (didn't actually break just fell of his seat) they looked horrible and way off their game
I'm happy that the danish won, since the start of the GB would not even have permitted them a silver medal, and maybe that's a bit the reason that the seat "broke" ;-)

Go to a rowing club, or try to find someone that knows about the sport because it needs way more technic than some oser sports like cycling or walking would need

It's not uncommon for very experienced rowers to have small habits that are very difficult for them to correct because they have been doing them for years. That and different countries have different styles, it could be either or both.
England the specialist of restart (when in the rules for final is (no restart) in Rowing and cycling track...for exemple... and finaly win after that.
For the rowing the french team was very well and take a large advance with another team, but english broke something.... repear like Mac Gyver....and..... restart... LOL
For the final of track cycling SAME... Bad Start in final (Again versus french who had a very good start... and english ask a restart... and win...

I'm not exactly the biggest expert in rowing technique and I'm far from questioning an olympic gold medalist, but isn't the Danish stroke flexing his shoulders more than he should? Shouldn't your shoulders be relaxed?

he's ( relatively ) short so I suspect uses power and strength a bit more than just pure leverage...regardless it's clear he's giving everything at the finish and it worked out well ( as sad as I was to see Purchase and Hunter lose that race )

The british absolutely deserved their loss. All the opponents had 10 extra strokes, it was not fair at all. Anyway, it's their responsibility to show up with proper, tested equipment in an olympic final. There was no real reason to stop the competition, it's only positive discrimination due to their home nation. Well done Denmark!
those 10 extra strokes would have made no difference to the results. They had a lot of time to rest after when GB were fixing their slide/seat.
Absolute absurde and biased "restart" rules interpretations and it wasn't the first time in these olympics, and each time (don't look for any hasard) it was in favor of Team GB:
Cycling, rowing, diving... they miss their start, they've e got a restart. hometown rules

The rule which makes restarts possible is totally unacceptable, its literally cheating. Also, when you are rowing at this level, in these boats, on these waters, its has to be made inevitable and its unacceptable for boats/materials to break. Of course, a boat can break, but at the olympics, the seats, oars, everything should be constantly checked hours before the race. Also, in my five years of rowing i have never broke a seat, not while training, let alone racing. So, what are the chances that the seat of an olympic (!!!) boat actually breaks during one of the most important races, at, dare i say, quite a good time for GB?
